Turned out to be a good player for us Ed001.

{Ed001's Note - still my favourite of recent years. Loved his attitude, the way he overcome abuse purely because the crowd got upset that he might replace Gerrard. He was always criticised over everything he did, no matter if it was the right thing to do or not.}

Great profile. I loved Lucas, I know the time was right when he left but I was still gutted. He put his 100% effort in when he was at Liverpool, he's red through and through, massive respect for the lad.

{Ed001's Note - and he convinced Firmino and Coutinho to join.}

Lucas was a sensational person at Liverpool. A few people i know at LFC said he was excellent with the younger players behind the scenes. He'd also help in coaching with the smaller ones too, just a genuinely great man.

Cheers Ed01, have to agree with you one of my all time favourite reds, absolutely loved the club and gave his all. Another underrated player. Shocking that some fans would boo him. Seems like a thoroughly decent bloke too!

Possibly the most underrated Liverpool player ever.

{Ed025's Note - not for me im afraid robbie, but everyone to their own i suppose..

Great loyal player, Ed001. Did everything and always walked around with a smile. It is a great shame a lot of today's supporters don't appreciate dedication and team ethic, which he had loads of. To be voted Brazil's best player for the year (as an AM), and then to come over and be turned into a DM, and stick with it for 10 years, takes strength of character and a lot of self-belief.

'It is a great shame a lot of today's supporters don't appreciate dedication and team ethic'

Spot on ra, it's become a thing of the past it seems, I thought of Hendo when you said that. People just don't appreciate exactly what he brings to the table just like they didn't with Lucas. Quite sad really.

Salah love reading your posts mate but I couldn’t disagree more with you. Just because people share different views on performances or players etc it doesn’t need mean they appreciate less than the so called super fans who see nothing wrong. Whether you’re a glass half full supporter or even a full glass supporter everyone is entitled to their own opinion and viewpoint. Football is all about debate but if anyone dares to question something lately it’s as if they are accused of not being a proper fan or are clueless about the game. (That’s not all aimed at you mind Salah mate)

Just hope he gets into coaching when he stops playing and comes back to Anfield and joins Jurgen’s backroom staff.

Lucas was a top bloke who was ultra dedicated. You could tell he loved playing for the clubs and fans. He deserves to be remembered fondly for all he did while he was at the club.

On the footballing side though for me he just wasnt up to scratch.

His defensive duties were good and he did do a lot of dirty work. He adapted quite well for someone who was moved further back. His passing for me though was awful which was surprise considering where he used to play. I used to get as fustrated with him as i do now with gini. For different reasons of course.

I can understand why some people liked him on the footballing side but he just wasnt for me.

I was glad he got a good move after liverpool. He is a good lad and deserves to be playing at a good club.

One of my favorite players, you could tell he loved the club. A great memory of him was off the pitch, on a summer break he went home to Brazil, he’s from a ranching background apparently, and there’s a photo of him on horseback essentially being a cowboy. I still get a mile thinking about it.

One of my fav. LFC players, period. Lucas so wanted to play for us that he accepted to be switched from a very talented attacking mid to a DM just so he could help the team. You tell me at this day and age, what player would accept that? Exactly. Lucas had great ability on the ball and as a DM, he was light years ahead of Mascherano who was a true headless chicken running around making tackles with no idea of positional awareness or the ability to anticipate danger and snuff it out.

I also remember that Lucas was the best in the PL at his position before that devastating knee injury destroyed him and set him back physically. No matter the abuse he got (Ed once said he had to be consoled by his team mates after he broke down and cried in the DR after receiving dog's abuse from the crowd after a game), the guy kept his honor and dignity. He did what he was asked by the team w/ o complaining and always a happy camper. I will always respect Lucas for the man he was much more than the talented player he was. Why? Cos your football ability does not define who you really are. It is who you are off the pitch that does.

{Ed025's Note - very wise words red wolf...even if you are the most biased liverpudlian ever mate.. :)
