I feel if this game happened last season. 2-0 up then Henderson sent off, we would probably have drawn the game.

Bloody hell Ed I needed this mate I'm going stare crazy in a cafe waiting for time to pass because I have an appointment later on (half 4) came out too early!

'Overall though, his movement and workrate is one of the keys to Liverpool's form right now. '

Boom, there we go, you have hit the nail on the head there regarding Firmino Ed. Overall top read, I can't disagree with any of that. Cheers mate.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, I don't think people notice just how much he does off the ball for the team, his movement, like Salah's, is exceptional.}

Great review as always Ed. Agree with your views, the referee had a stinker, particularly with the first booking for Hendo when Success was tugging his shirt first, but you’re correct then our captain shouldn’t have let that affect him in the manner it did.

I actually think there are a couple of extra positives to take and that’s that Henderson can hopefully learn from that reaction and not be so hot headed next time he is frustrated, and Robertson can hopefully also learn from his poor raised leg that could have lead to a Watford penalty. It’s so important in football to learn from your mistakes and if they can both learn from theirs, in a game in which we won well anyway, then that can only be a good thing in the long run.

I think Hendo will be a miss for next weekend’s derby, however. He is a reliable and effective player in that midfield and has played in plenty of Merseyside derbies - we’ll miss that experience. At least it’s only a one game suspension! Onto Paris we go!

{Ed001's Note - I have never known Jon Moss have anything but a stinker to be honest. Utterly inept, with the pace and mobility of an 80 year old Jan Molby.

I hope they do learn, we all make mistakes the key thing is to learn from them.

As for Hendo, he will be a big miss.}

Cheers Ed001, really enjoyed the game and match review. Easily the kind of game we would draw following an international break last year. The side looks better with Shaqiri in it, it'll be interesting to see how we line up against PSG, if we can afford to have that extra attacking player on.

Wijnaldum was as frustrating as ever, would like to see Keita come in. Challenging from the wrong side just end doesn't well. Well unless you're Nainggolan (highly recommending youtubing the 'Nainggolan' tackle for those that haven't seen it) .

Was a crucial save by Alisson at a crucial time in the game. Good review ed, cheers.

{Ed001's Note - thanks mate, I am sure some people will say it was a save they expect him to make etc.}

Good read Ed001, I agree Hendo will be a big miss Sunday. I expect to really tough game especially after PSG away.

I do think though we have enough depth to cope with an Everton side.

Love the 80’s comparison 👍.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate.}

Great read, Ed. First offr, the ref. People may have forgotten but it was this same John Moss who literally made English refs look completely incompetent and useless when he reffed us last season vs Divers and Klaimers FC (Spurs) at Anfield. That day, I nearly lost it. As soon as I saw him with the whistle, I knew we were in for a crappy day and sadly, he did not disappoint.

Hendo had a very good game IMO, until he lost his head. He and Success ere going at it from the off and Hendo let the situation get to him and lost his head. He will be missed vs Everton, for sure. As for the whole performance, I totally loved it. You see, this is what big teams do. They wear you down, make you chase shadows, tire you out and then go for the kill. People getting wound up that "we were not at our best". I actually agree. Why? We did not need to be anymore. In the NFL, they say "you have to play hard but most importantly, play smart". We have spent the last two seasons playing hard. It is time to play smart and we don't need to be at our best to play smart.

Enuff of the gong-ho stuff as that has gotten us very little in the past. We played with professionalism, patience and confidence, knowing that the breakthrough would come and after turning the screws on Watford, the goals came. Still a long way to go and more improvement is needed regardless of the win and performance, either way. Off to Paris!

I wasn’t around in the 80’s but i get the comparison Ed001is making. In my time, the great Arsenal, Chelsea and United teams have played a similar style. They build upon a solid defence with confidence, knowing that if they simply keep control of the game for 90 minutes their quality will see them score the goals to see the result out and the players behind them will do their job as well. Its a far cry from our other teams post-Rafa, where we would frantically try and impose ourselves in the first half, have to score 4 goals to feel confident in a lead, and would panic if the game did not go exactly according to plan in a very short space of time. This team knows how to win, and how to win efficiently. The only small problem is that we seem to have forgotten how to take our ‘A Game’ to the big teams when we have to really turn on the style, hopefully we will learn to differentiate our style to the quality of the opposition as the season goes on.

I agree with you, AW on the whole. As for taking our A game to the big teams, I see that differently. Back in the day, we would be up for the big games vs big teams and then as you know, play to the level of our competitions vs the lesser teams. I do not think we need to turn on the style vs big teams (if you can, why not? ) . IMO, that is the time you have to be even more efficient in both boxes cos chances are always at a premium in such games, or at least that is always expected. We have evolved into a team where regardless of who we play, we are up for it and that is how big teams win. They do not take games off or take them for granted. Still a long way to go but we are definitely on the right track.
