Cheers for that ed, much appreciated mate. Hoping mick McCarthy gets the Irish job. After the dreadful keane tenure, people aren’t as split on the whole Saipan issue anymore. I think he’s a vastly underrated manager and suited for scouring the lower leagues for youth. Was very disappointed he left back in the first place. Have a great day mate.

{Ed001's Note - his football is not that good though is it?}

Excellent news about Mane's new contract. 👍.

In fairness, mick gets the best out of what he’s given and for a while has the tactics to get success without spending much at all. If you look at his career he’s always had a successful period at every club. Despite the dreadful abuse he received at Ipswich, it looks like they’d give anything to get him back right now. As for Ireland, he had us playing great possession football in the qualifiers for 2002 and at the tournament itself so more of that please.

{Ed001's Note - I am not disagreeing I was asking as I am not sure, I can't remember much of his teams play to be honest.}

Ah no bother at all, at least whoever comes in will play better football than O’Neill. And maybe, just maybe glen whelan won’t play for us again either. a boy can dream. Mick is meeting fai this weekend so we’ll see wher it goes.

{Ed001's Note - I can't see how anyone could have believed that O'Neill and Keane as a pair was a sensible choice. You need at least one guy capable of coaching and organising a team shape, those two are both inept and lacking in any genuine clue about coaching or organising. One is a decent motivator and the other is a shy guy who makes up for that by being a loud mouthed moron to try and cover up his natural shyness in a group situation.}

Pep and klopp could take charge of ireland and it still wouldn't make a difference, we just don't have the players. Worst ireland squad I've ever seen.

Stephen kenny for me. Fresh and hungry. Give him the job for 10 years minimum cause there ain't a lot to work with at the present time.

Not sure he’s ready Wolverine. He’s doing a stellar job in Dundalk but I’d love if he went overseas to deal with bigger egos in far harder leagues. I rate him but I’d hate to go the way of Kerr after his reign. Also mick knows the English game and he knows the best young lads eligible. He came in and worked with an aging team but his best success for Ireland were when he brought young lads through. The fact that he and Delaney despise each other is another thing working in his favor imo.

Aoe

I get what your saying and they are all good points. No arguments here. but after years of complete crap id just like to see a new approach.

Thats why i would like to see someone like kenny and a long contract which gives him time for an overhaul and a chance to bed some youth in.

If mccarthy gets the job which is most likely he prob only stays about 4 years.

I think kenny would be the more hungry of the two.

There is a lot of work for whoever comes in that's for sure.

Mick has tried to get the job twice since he left and he only left because idiots were chanting for keane in the stand over the Saipan incident. It was affecting the team so he walked in the hope they’d still qualify. He is hungrier than any manager we’ve had since imo. The only issue is that muppet Delaney.

I’m not sure how big a change Kenny would be. I think he is a great Irish manager (despite being a bray wanderers season ticket holder and I’ve suffered many a miserable night in the Carlisle cos of him) but Brian Kerr and he are very similar in how their careers went, a god of Irish club football for what he did and changed up the Irish youth levels only to have a disastrous tenure for Ireland.

He couldn’t handle the egos that come with the appointment and I’d worry Kenny will go down the route. Let’s not fool ourselves, bray put in a few quid into the team and signed a few players and we shot to the top of the league- a little bit of money goes so far in Ireland so until our managers get abroad and work in a league with any credibility I’m wary of throwing them into a massive job way too soon.

His time in Scotland was an absolute disaster and that level of football isn’t the greatest either. Whoever we get, I’ll cheer on regardless, unless it’s Allardyce.
