So who do people make of Liverpool's patchy press theses days

We aren't pressing as aggressive as we did last season

I know some say to prevent a burn put but surely again arsenal Chelsea and city you can try turn it on for a big game.

I find it surprising how some fans say we can’t play Shaqiri or an attack minded player In the midfield 3 but have forgotten about when Coutinho was in there and we were scoring for fun. Yes at the time we were also conceding for fun but that was more on the keeper and defence we had at the time.

Dezy, we did not have the personel in midfield to press effectively, IMO and Klopp may have known that as well BUT still had us trying to press and there were signs of that. Had we had Hendo and/ or Keita then maybe the press would have been better.

Also for you to execute the press effectively, there can be NO passengers in midfield and if you have Fab having a tough game and Wiji being anonymous, both in the first half then the press can't and won't work. You also have to contend with the the tempo Arsenal were playing at and they played well mainly due to our inadequacies than their brilliance in midfield, IMO.

Listen, playing at the Emirates vs a team as in-form as Arsenal is always a tough ask HOWEVER, we were MORE effective in both boxes and the disallowed goal hurt us big time as well esp. and when you are not at your best, you need these things to go your way and we need the lino to do his job and he did not. All is all, we move on.

The press should be a selective tactic anyway, should it not?
One of the criticisms of Liverpool last season was our inconsistency, electric one game and lacking the next.
As a whole, we’re a better and stronger team this term.
I feel, personally, that if Liverpool score first these days, we are extremely tough to beat. Peg back, ok, though we can counter.
But I don’t have that horrible feeling of uncertainty that even at 2-0 up you never felt the game was over.

I was impressed by Arsenal yesterday but let’s see how they’re going in January / February with a few midfield injuries to cater for?

And don’t forget that most of the teams we’ve played this year have sat very deep, including City. Kudos to Arsenal yesterday for having a go. See if they do the same at Anfield.

I'd assume it's harder just to "turn it on" for certain games if that's not how you're playing every game. Arsenal are a really good team going forward, they're used to playing out from the back now and are probably the best placed team to get round the intense high press, so i don't think it was a bad idea to ease off last night. We had a goal ruled out and hit the post, so we could have got the win, but as it is it was a decent away point against a team that will probably finish in the top 5.

Buvac is the reason.

Good points above agree with most, id imagine its hard to switch it on but I do miss that style of football

Keita will hopefully add some flair from midfield to defence although for me shaqiri does it perfectly.

What does Buvac have to do with anything, exactly?
