How impressive has shaqiri been? I never had doubts on his ability but I had my reservations when we bought him.

So far he has shown brilliant attitude and has been involved in a direct or indirect assist (s) every game he's played.

Hes definitely pushing for a starting place and i think he might against Cardiff again as Klopp took him off around 60 mins.

Standing ovation when he came off. Wasn’t perfect but as you said, great attitude and produces moments of magic regularly. Good piece of business.

The most encouraging thing for me was how he chased an won the ball back in the middle to then set Robbo up for his assist. Commentator said he didn’t see his role last night as one he’d be playing often. I’d argue it’s his only realistic shot at regular starts.

12 mil 😂 I told you all it couldn't go wrong.

He's worth at least 25 mil to a west ham right now. Simple.

But we have a super player for an absolute pittance! Pittance.

We have 4 contenders for the best prem deals in history. Shaq, Gomez, Robertson and Salah.

There's loads and loads for other clubs but for a team taking on the almighty city right now, to have 4 playing for us that cost less together than mahrez is pretty cool :)

{Ed001's Note - I am sorry but not one of them is anywhere near a contender for that title yet. They need to perform at a high level for more than a few months to get near it.}

I think you are forgetting Coutinho, and Suarez. Bought for peanuts, and sold for £200 million combined.

Kloppsboss, talk about getting carried away! Shaq has played about 3 games for us, did okay at stoke and you’re. Talking one of the best deals in PL history? There have been dozens they came cheap to other clubs and went for big money and have done it over a long time. Gomez hasn’t even played 10 games as CB! Look at Leicester’s cheap buys or even Arsenal’s in their prime!

Salah isn't anywhere near deal of the century ed?

Are we sure?

Fyi he is even leading the premilary polls for the ballon. The fact that we signed him for 40 mil, he went on to become the record premier league scorer, player of the year, 6x liverpool potm, I think 4 time premier league potm, African player of the year, champions league finalist and is even in contention to break the 10 year cycle of Messi and Ronaldo as world's best player.

God knows what counts as a steal. 😂😂

Gomez is a beast and is vying with vvd the 80 mil defender for our best cb. We signed him for 3.5 mil.

Robertson relegated with hull to a champions league final lb.

Shaq was bought in this market. The next on the list was seemingly fekir for 50 mil.

As for getting carried away. I meant for why we had to sign him. If he doesn't get back in our side he is still worth a chunk to a west ham or something, so we were never going to lose. If he carries on like he is then we have a proper player for an absolute pittance.

{Ed001's Note - 1 season does not make a deal of the century. Hyperbolic nonsense. Love him but he has to perform for years to be considered, not one year. This is just people not understanding anything other than yesterday. Knee jerk reaction at its finest.

When you become a mature adult and stop getting carried away with a short term viewpoint, then you will understand and remember we have had players such as Xabi Alonso, the best defensive midfielder of the modern era and sold him for a profit and Fernando Torres, who we sold for double after getting the best years of his career, they, by any intelligent and sensible definition, would be better deals.}

Kloppsboss love your enthusiasm but none of the players you mention can be regarded deal of the century. Shaq has only played a handful of games.
Using Ed01's example, Xabi Alonso cost around £10 million, was sold for £30 million, but also won trophies for Liverpool. He won the champions league and the FA cup.
Thierry Henry was a great deal for Arsenal, won trophies and sold at a profit to Barcelona. I'm sure there are lots of players who have been better deals than our 4 players.
Hopefully 1 day when they have won Liverpool several big trophies over a few seasons we can say about them, but not yet.

{Ed001's Note - that is a much more eloquent way of saying what I was trying to, thank you flash.}

How do we even measure 'best deals'? Is it simply a numbers game whereby we subtract what a team paid for x player from what they sold him for? Or is his contribution to his respective club in comparison to the fee paid how we measure it?

Just wondering because I was thinking of Hyypia, a stalwart at the back for us who cost 4mil (of thereabouts) . Ended up leaving on a free after excellent years of service, but his contribution was significant so couldn't we argue he also represents a great deal?

Depends what you value tbh.

We might and should never sell any of those players anymore. So for transfer fees in vs out we might never know the comparison.

All I can say is Gomez, Robertson, Salah and shaqiri are all going to go for more than we paid.

I'm judging deal of the century as what we got for what we paid, not made.

So we paid 40 mil for Salah and received 44 goals, 32 premier league goals, which is a record - the record - the pfa player of the year. A champions league final. Potential ballon dore. Even if we don't sell him what he has done for our brand is insane.

Gomez. John stones is nowhere near as good and went for 50 million. We signed him for 3.5. He is now playing alongside and rivalling a cb who cost us 80 million pounds. How much would we have to pay to get someone to displace him.

Robertson vs Mendy. One 8.5 mil the other 50 million.

Shaqiri 12.5 mil, fekir next for 50 million.

To clarify I didn't say profit of the century.

Can see what kloppisboss is saying. They were all excellent buys. But to be deservedly called a deal of the century - as ed says - they have to be performing in another 5 years.

I will happily sit in the middle, and call them all fantastic buys, but just how fantastic, we shall have to wait and see.

Kloppsboss, your enthusiasm is commendable BUT you need to turn it down a couple of notches cos those players you mentioned will do VERY WELL to emulate a Xabi Alonso or Torres or Henry achievement-wise before being labeled "Best deal (s) of the century", whatever the heck that means.

You are right klopp boss, all 4 were fantastic deals for us but the only one who is close to biggest bargain ever and its salah but we did pay 40 mil near on, before the neymar 200mil deal. And 40 was a very high fee then.

None of the players mentioned have achieved club success yet and cannot be compared to other players who have.

Ask yourself this, would a non Liverpool supporter suggest any of the 4 as being the best Premier league bargain? They wouldn't. Joe gomez? Unbelievable player but remember hypia, he came quite cheap and will always be considered one of the leagues finest cbs.

He's the type of player who is highly, naturally talented. These players have a split second more time than most and can then try passes others don't see.

Some of those chips into the box were pure class. His understanding with salah was exciting and with trent and gini our right side looks very dangerous.

I really think this is our time, I think in 20 years people are going to be talking about these players. It started 3 years ago when klopp came.

Christiano Ronaldo was the best deal in the Premier League. He arrived fairly cheap, won lots at United and became arguably the best/ second best (if you think Messi is better) player in the world before being sold at a massive profit. Salah is nowhere near that level yet.
