People are blaming the world cup and friendlies for the lack of cutting edge in the final third and fluency in general. But wasn't City affected by those factors. They are scoring so many goals? Is it simply that they have a better squad?

To be fair. I have been critical but comparing us to city, it's easier coming back as champions rather than the teams whose dreams where crushed.

City have a better squad than us, yeah. but I'm not sure if the principle of that fact is why we've yet to hit our stride.
Don't worry too much about it.

Better squad, nah not in my opinion they don't, they've just started better with their attack. Look at how good we were attacking last season, that'll come back. We have a 10 x better defence and GK than them. Overall I think we have different qualities, I don't think they're better than us one bit, very equal in many ways but if I had to choose the better team, if Liverpools attack was on form it'd be Liverpool, which is what we'll see when we finally click and win the league.

I would not say ten times better def and goal keeper, for one thing ederson is really pushing Allison in the brazil squad.

They have the exact defensive stats as us right now. 6 clean sheets 3 goals conceded.

They had a lot more clean sheets than us last season. I know that not an indicator on its own but we aren't ten times better. Maybe we edge it but certainly not ten times better.

Let's not forget we've won 4-0 and 3-0 already this season, we haven't squeaked many games, we've been pretty comfortable.

You have took me too literal pak mate. All I'm saying is we have a much better keeper and defence.

Feel like its a combination of factors, rather then one specific one.

1) The team isn't pressing as much in order to conserve energy for later on in the season, which naturally results in less chances for a front three who are at their best on the break.
2) Salah's injury definitely had had an effect on him, even if its more mental then physical. Though the fact he's still creating so many chances is a positive.
3) As pointed out above, the world cup means the players didn't have a pre season to build up said fluidity.
4) Teams are naturally better prepared for how Liverpool play, many teams have been doubling up on Salah.
5) I've not seen anyone mention this, but Mane full recovery from his previous injury seems to have confused his game slightly. He'd adapted to being slightly slower by dropping deeper last season. He seems to have his lighting pace back, but is still finding his feet with how and when to use it.

I'm not worried though, it will come. The fact that we've had our best start to a season in a decade without said fluidity, just shows how much this team as grown. We'll put the fear of god in teams once the front three are back at their best.

{Ed001's Note - and it is still early in the season. We were not playing that well early last season either. We even got a hiding at the hands of Spurs which was well deserved. Then we clicked.}

Sane wasn’t at the World Cup, Mahrez either. Aguero did not play that much. The only player in the front departement for City who played a lot was de Bruyne, and look he Got injured.
Salah is still not fit, Mane strugling a bit mabye because of the contract situation, Bobby is Bobby so dam good, but we can not expect him to put in marvelous performances everytime. All the teams we’ve met so far has doubled up in defense around Salah, Mane and Bobby. Look at City, playing only on fastbreaks last time, Kloop has figured Pep out.
Last year we heard the same whinners that complined Liverpool lost after international breaks and wasn’t able to hold on and grind results out, what's the point?
Yes we mabye need a offensive midfielder playing between the lines, but Kloop is trying to fill in Shaq. Right now we are actually giving Bobby and Mane e little rest before Christmas, that could turn out to be a blessing.
Chelsea will have to play Hazard everytime to hold their place, Tottenham plays Kane everytime even though he is strugling for form, though he is in a class of his own. City is City and ha got so many offensive players, but what's going to happen when Tottenham, Chelsea and Man U start to attack them. let's just wait and see.

City have had a much easier run of fixtures prior to the international break and are certainly expanding more energy than us, which will come back to bite them in the run in. Our team look shattered by the time we faced them and they still didn’t have the balls to go for it at anfield. Our front 3 haven’t started well but they didn’t last season either, its only a matter of time.

OP, no one is saying that those are the reasons why we are not firing. Those are only part of the host of reasons we are struggling even tho, we have done well to rise above all of that to be where we are in the PL table.

Remember, we had the most difficult schedule in all comps. to start the season and tho we have lost two games, they are games where we were the better team and should have won (vs Chelsea in the Cup) and were not good enuff to even get a point vs Napoli. Salah is still not fit and Mane is injured and has been struggling for form since he dropped 4 goals to start the season. The only player of the front 3 showing some signs of resurgence is Bobbie and there are other gears he can still go.

As for Salah, he is still a threat and tho not in form, he still scored the goal for the win and puts the fear of Satan into the opposition who have to account for him REGARDLESS of the form (or lack thereof) . These are the hidden positives that must be pointed out, IMO.

We always start slow, it's only city that look in top shape and we're level on points. Integrating players and getting a team to gel takes time. It's only a matter of time before someone gets a spanking, that will get us going. Great site cheers eds.

Good post Red-JC.
I’d like to add that City had a much better sqaud LAST season so in the build up to the World Cup their players were not playing as much as Salah, Mane and Firmino.
Plus they’d won the league about a month before the World Cup and although Pep was chasing 100 points, there was no real pressure on them. Our lads faced the biggest game in domestic football against the 3 times champions.
