Nice review ed.
I did shake my head yesterday when I saw Lallana on team sheet, and your review has verified that.
Does klopp not see he is a hindrance?

{Ed001's Note - he was in to get his match fitness up and sharpness back ready for the rest of the season.}

Thanks Ed, I also think what you said about Lallana was spot on but I must admit I was shouting at Robertson too, when he makes his forward runs and we get caught in position, he’s lost up front and can’t get back quick enough, so annoying when he does that
Once again mate thanks for the review of the game and as I’ve said before, I never read the papers for theirs only your one.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, that is a great compliment. Robbo was really struggling yesterday. I know he got no help from Lallana but he should have done better. The difference today watching Wan-Bissaka (sp?) dealing with Bernard and Digne was night and day. He was at them and closing them off aggressively ensuring that they were unable to get time and space to cross. A proper full-back's job and he got forward as well! I hope our lads watched that as they could learn from that kid.}

Slightly harsh on Lallana ed, he was more of a 1/ 10 for me.

{Ed001's Note - yeah maybe a teensy bit harsh. But he lost half a point for making me shout and swear so much the neighbours interrupted me watching the game to come round and ask if everything was ok.}

Thank you for that Ed. I really can't disagree with anything. I especially liked your comments on Lallana. When he first signed with us and especially when Klopp came on board, I thought he would be a game changer. I understand the injuries and all, but he has been a disappointment overall. I still think Fabinho will be an important piece for us in the second half. I also agree with you that our best back line is with Gomez partnering with VVD. Ed, do you think that Phillips has a future with the club? I'm wondering if we should commit to Gomez, sell Lovren, and promote Phillips next season.

{Ed001's Note - surely the better option would be to offload Matip to promote Phillips? I do believe he has every chance of a future, but he has to go out and grab it.}

You’re right about Wan-Bissaka Ed, great player unfortunately on the losing side today and yeah it’s something that we need to work on.

{Ed001's Note - I was really impressed with the way he managed to cope despite being pretty much left to defend on his own for most of the game against two players.}

Great review ed cheers! Glad to see you point out Van Dijk. I watched the game in the pub and the lads kept saying Lovren was awful but as I saw it Van Dijk was the one at fault mostly. Seems some fans can be blinded by Lovren's dodgy history!
Agree with you on Shaq seeming lost too, some great touches but almost seemed like he didn't fully understand his role and where to be at times.

{Ed001's Note - everyone always blames Lovren because they have decided they dislike him.}

Lallana poor, but always is first few games back. I just wouldn't play him on the wings, hasn't got the speed or power for it. If he's going to play put him in as one of the midfield 3.

Can't agree at all on the VVD comments and score and especially the Lovren comments and score, for me Lovren at times was his usual rash self especially were he dived in toward the end of the game covering for gomez which let the Huddersfield lad in and luckily he chose the wrong option and the attack fizzled out, on another day that lack of discipline leads to a goal, the rest of your analysis was pretty much spot on, especially the critique of lallana and sturridge, awful simply awful.

I Agree waro. VVD cocked up when he sliced one, but Lovren was a mess all game. What was he doing rushing out of defence into no mans land, Gomez VVD CB partnership for me all day.

Lovren is usually ok if the ball is coming straight at him in the centre of the pitch. Pull him out wide or put a criss in and he just goes to pieces and panics.

VVD made one glaring error, you’d hope your CD partner would cover but Lovren decided to go one better in the glaring error stakes.

Class that Ed, I really don't know how you managed to rewatch it so fair play there mate lol as others have said I also completely agree with what you've said about Lallana, saying he was abysmal is kind of a compliment though mate because he was even worse than that!

{Ed001's Note - it is a shame because he seemed to have figured out what Klopp wanted just before his injuries. As soon as he came back he reverted to type instead.}

Sorry Ed, I wasn't having a go at Lovren with the comment to sell. I wasn't even thinking about Matip. That makes better sense. Thanks for the comment on Phillips.

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, I guessed you must have forgotten about Matip.}

Great read, Ed. I was shocked at the lallana pick as well BUT I won't slate him too much cos it was his first start so not too surprised with his perf. As for the rest, no qualms from me on your assessment and I will say that that Wan-Bissaka lad is a true gem. Plays the FB position the way it is supposed to be played.

As for VVD, I agree he was poor in his approach BUT could it be that it was cos he is struggling with his rib injury cos at times, he looked in pain and knackered? As for Lovren, the guy can't catch a break. I put him in the Hendo basket as in, all he has to do is just be in the team and will get blamed for us not winning even tho he had a good game. VVD can be poor (like this game or vs Leicester) and excuses will be made for him whereas all Lovs has to do is stand next to VVD and if a goal is scored, he will get the blame even if someone else made the mistake.

{Ed001's Note - VVD was just too laid back, he made mistakes that were nothing to do with being in pain, they were just lazy. Such as the constant back passes playing Alisson into pressure, when he could have just played a forward ball or put it over the top for Salah to chase. He was just doing the easy thing all the time. No excuse having broken ribs, that is an excuse for not moving much, not for picking the wrong pass or getting yourself out of position because you weren't concentrating. If anything, I would expect him to concentrate harder, to try and block the pain out. By now he should be used to it anyway, it has been weeks he has been playing with the problem, and he has not done this in every game. Just the 'easier' ones where he is not mentally up for it, imo. The important thing is we got through it without conceding anyway.}

Thanks for the response, Ed. VVD's performance only supports Koeman's recent comments about him (which I agree with) BUT many on here where shamelessly defending VVD by slating Koeman for being a poor CB in his playing days, as if that has anything to do with him voicing the bl**ding obvious about VVD''s flaws, which are clear to see for anyone with two eyes and a functioning brain.

{Ed001's Note - Koeman does have a point, and he would probably know well due to it having been one of his problems, other than an inability to actually defend. He was one of the first modern day defenders imo, great on the ball but struggled to actually defend.}

Lovren just like mignolet just like karius and just like moreno has been a liability since he got here.

Lovren is rash, lacks concentration, is positionally suspect and as slow as a turtle strapped to a breeze block and its ironic you use the term "functioning brain" because he doesn't have one.

Name one top team who would take lovren from us? You've heard his life story, feel sorry for him and have decided subconsciously to support him no matter what, ever heard of clouded judgment?

Utter nonsense, Waro. None of what you posted is true about Lovren. Lovren? Slow? Again, nonsense. Lovs has blinding pace as a CB. He is comfortably two-footed and can play on the left or right side comfortably, something VVD can't do. You comparing him to Migs and Moreno is quite pathetic and misleading cos he has improved MASSIVELY since his BR days playing next to a completely useless Skrtel. If you think comparing him to those players makes your point more poignant then you are fooling yourself cos Lovs' performances have been top notch since his Spurs debacle.

The man fought back well from that debacle (that could have destroyed him both on and off the pitch) to play a blinder of a season esp. w/ VVD next to him, shutting down the legendary CR7) in the CL final. He then went to the WC and shut down EVERY striker that came his way including the "golden boy" Harry Kane. He shut down Aguero as well in his first start in the PL this season. ALL FACTS, bro.

"Who would take Lovs off our hand? " Pretty strange question which only shows how much you know about football cos that is not how it works. Oh, did I mention that he was linked with Barcelona last week cos they're looking for a CB to replace Pique? I mean, this is too easy, man. Now, Does he have a mistake in him? He has a mistake in him as much as VVD (who was dreadful vs Hudd) and Gomez (who makes mistakes as well BUT we are prepared to give him a break cos he is young and talented) has mistakes in them as well. These are facts I just laid out, not any made-up malarkey. You may not like Lovs BUT stop making up utter nonsense to support your point. That's just weak and pathetic, IMO.
