Morning Ed002.

With planning permission to expand the Anfield Road due to expire in September next year, do you think we'll look to revise the plans?

{Ed002's Note - It doesn't need the plans to be revised, a request can be made to extend the planning permission or work could actually begin on the work. However, financially the return on further expanding the stadium is not great and a large amount of money is committed to the rebuilding of the academy facilities. A recent lesson (that should have been) learned by the club is don't turn up to planning meetings and blatently lie.}

It’s an interesting one, Peter Moore was recently interviewed and one of the topics discussed was the stadium expansion. He went on to say the club are debating whether to submit a new planning application to develop Anfield as they explore how best to expand the capacity of the stadium.

As you correctly say “additional seats, so to speak “won’t necessarily give you the best financial return. On the other hand though, demand for tickets is extremely high and with a season ticket waiting list at over 20,000 we do need the expansion. I’m just not so sure it will be done.

Can someone explain why another 8,000 seats would not be beneficial to the revenue the club generates? There are people begging for tickets every week or alternatively paying top dollar to tours or middle men for them.

Shughes55, Ed02 quite rightly urges poster to keep away from footballing financial matters. But if I can have a stab at a simple explanation from an admittedly low level of knowledge .
The business men who own and run Liverpool LFC have to make a calculation of the cost of developing the Anfield Road stand against the money generated by the extra seats and how long it will take to recoup the cost of that development.

Stands behind the goals are not generally popular with those who spend big on hospitality boxes, etc so the extra revenue will likely come from basic ticket sales, therefore it will take longer to recover the outlay than that on, say, the Main Stand.
