Morning Ed,

Lukaku needs to learn to shut up and keep his thoughts to himself, I find that out of order. So many players are incapable of having a little respect these days.

Have a good Monday mate.

{Ed001's Note - he annoys me the way he constantly disrespects teams.}

Morning Redmen.
Sad news about Peter Brackley. I liked listening to his footy commentary, very good.
The chap in the picture is James Richardson though, who was the front man of Football Italia?

{Ed001's Note - yes mate he was. I couldn't find a pic of Brackley from the time that related to Football Italia.}

Agreed Ed, he's doing himself no favours going on like he is doing. person needs to grow up a little and start being professional.

{Ed001's Note - the problem is with footballers is they exist in a bubble and so they never need to grow up until they retire when it is often too late.}

I agree Salah, completely disrespectful to Everton and now Man U. I'm sure when he gets his move to Italy, he won't stop. Have a great day everyone.

Very true that Ed. People like him and Neymar etc need their bubbles bursting and bringing down a peg of two.

{Ed001's Note - I think they all need that bubble to be burst.}

Cheers for that ed, have a good day mate.

Cheers Ed, nice read over my coffee. Glad Arter is back (which shows the state of the team we're working with) but as an Irishmen its hard to even pretend to be optimistic with O'Neill and Keane at the helm. Especially as they seem to be past even pretending to have a plan.

Lukaku reminds me of Pogba and Griezmann, its always about what they're going to do next. Maybe try finding some semblance of consistency before talking up your next move. I've seen better first touches from brick walls than Lukaku.

{Ed001's Note - why is O'Neill still in a job there? And why was Keane ever given a role after his betrayal of the country?}

Second everyone’s comments regarding Peter Brackley, real shame.

Why does Lukaku need to be saying all this “ stuff “ regarding Seria A? Crazy.

Loved football Italia. Wish they would bring it back, but I can't imagine it would be that good now. 15 - 20 years ago i loved Italian footy.

I can only assume its off the back of our vaguely successful 2016 Euro Campaign. Ed001, were O'Neil to be sacked who do you think Ireland could realistically go for manager wise?

I agree, Roy Keane might be one of Ireland greatest players in terms of talent, but not in terms of his contribution to the national team. Especially after the 2002 world cup. I think the idea was to pair O'neil with his complete opposite in terms of temperament. Though why the Irish FA were interested in creating a double act over a successful managerial partnership is beyond me. Would much rather have someone like Robbie involved in the setup (though not at a managerial level) .

{Ed001's Note - I don't see any outstanding candidates to be honest. The whole FAI is a mess and the team has been slipping in quality for a long time now. It needs a complete rebuild and a manager to come in who will actually work as part of that rebuild. Not like Keane and O'Neill, someone who can actually coach and help improve young players. A bit of tactical nous would help, but the first step is to improve the quality of players coming through.}

With his stock on the rise (deservedly so) it may never happen, but Chris Hughton would be my first choice.

Not sure what to make of lukaku comments. He is asked a question and he answered it. When players don't talk to the press and close up we give them a bit of grief and then when they answer some of the questions put to them we give them grief. If the next question had been "are you happy at utd? " he probably would have said yes.

Maybe rom is just a bit thick, we forget footballers generally don't have much education, add in talking a second language.

However, he is in a position that means he is a role model for millions, utd put their faith (and a lot of their cash) into lukaku and when they are under performing he should not even comment about playing for other teams. It makes it sound like his heart isn't in it.

If they miss out on top 4 maybe rom will be off. I've always thought we will one day see Harry kane in a red and white shirt.

Ed as you point out, if people are looking for good, thoughtful approach to football on and off the pitch with the likes of the perennially incompetent O'Neill and the perennially bitter, foul-mouthed Keane, then I suggest we shouldn't hold our collective breathe for any of that happening anytime soon.

O'Neill is still in a job because Delaney offered him and The Clown new contracts at a time their dreadful anti-football was producing results and its now too expensive to sack them. So unless we get hammered by Wales again and the FAI think the Aviva will be empty for the qualifiers, he'll stay in the job.

I'm under no illusions about the quality of footballer O'Neill has at his disposal and I'm realistic about playing caveman football against Germany, France, Holland etc., or even against Denmark who all have better players than us. But we played like that against Georgia in the last qualifying group. Georgia don't have better players than Ireland. And Wales are deprived of pretty much every player they have (Bale, Ramsey, Ampadu) who's better than our players, and we'll probably still treat them like they're Bob Paisley's Liverpool tomorrow.

Not to mention sheer insanity like a midfield three of Arter, O'Dowda (a winger) and Christie (a poor fullback) with Hendrick ahead of them. That's better than when Staunton played Finnan at LB and O'Shea at RB despite them playing the opposite way around for their clubs at the time.

As for a replacement for O'Neill, Stephen Kenny should be given a shot at it. But being an LOI manager, Delaney won't go for him because he treats the LOI like crap.

Ok, rant done now. :)
