Credit to both sides CB's today.
Lovren/ VVD - Laporte/ Stones, all had really good games.

agreed I was pleasantly surprised with Lovren's form. I though the back line played very well.

Lovren reclaimed his place to day (not that he had to cos he has been brilliant since Jan) as one of the best CB's around after some of our own "fans" were giving him loads after the Chelsea Cup game ( a game he played with NO preseason, off an injury and NO game time since the WC final) . He was brilliant today along with his team mates in the back line. 3 games vs top rivals = 5 point (more than all of last season and 8 points from 4 games on a tough PL schedule and STILL undefeated in the PL? I'll take that build on it going forward.

What's your thoughts on the aguero pen claim? Seen them given plenty of times. I've felt comfortable watching vvd and gomez this season. I just think Lovren has that mindless mistake in him, but maybe playing alongside vvd settles him? I think we can all be thankful for mahrezs ego though.

Agree, but not just on this game but most of other games this season so far. The defence, or the back 5, looks solid, and probably the most solid I've ever seen since I first started supporting the team.

Gomez is really going to be a superstar in the future by this rate.

Eds or fellow posters, what actually happened with Milner? I didn't watch it during the first 20-30 minutes, by that time Keita was already on.

Yep, lovren is better positional than gomez, Joe probably better on the ball.

VVD was also guilty of being rash yesterday, he was at fault for the Marhez penalty. I always listen to the phone in on the way home from the match ( radio Merseyside) VVD was being interviewed and he said he’d lost concentration for a split second and dived in. Admitted the mistake and said he’d learn from it.

Whilst Lovren had a good game there were a few times when I panicked. Towards the end of the game when we play out from the keeper and he gave it to Lovren who was getting closed down. I don’t know why but he doesn’t fill me with any confidence and I’m either expecting him to pass back to the keeper under pressure, pass the ball to one of their players or lose the ball ans could their man. There is something about him that I just feel there is a mistake waiting to happen. I’m not saying it will happen and it may be based on previous seasons, but for the life of me I he scares me. I was shouting at the tv not to give him the ball.

Lovren was brilliant again especially as lack of game time. And perhaps fans need to remember it was in actual fact a terrible sliced clearance from gomez that played Augero in and put lovren in instant danger in 6 yard box we no time to react. Lay off him he once again played Augero perfectly and he left the park frustrated! We are in great position yet not hit our levels. The back 5 that have played this season in league have been absolutely brilliant. Love Gomez van dijk pairing but great we have Lovren to come in when needed. He deserves so much credit for way he has turned ot around since the spurs away. And the heartache of losing two of the biggest finals in sport in tge space of 3 months. let's hope our front 3 start to click. And last thing sorry for long post. But may i say even though no trophy i have absolutely loved Klopps 3 years in charge top man.

Spot on, Coco9. For someone who has only played one game in 3 months with no preseason, he definitely did not show it. It is also a great leap of faith from Klopp to pick him in such a HUGE game. But his detractors will continue to dwell on the Aguero incident, one where Gomez put him under pressure cos you know what? It's what they do and can't stand the fact that Lovs has and continues to prove them ALL wrong. Pretty sure that had a pen. been given, we all know who would be getting blame. Spoiler alert: Not Gomez.

I would still play Gomez with VVD as they are slowly beginning to form a good partnership. Lovren has one mistake every game!

I was talking to my son about this on the way home and I said to him "you can be guaranteed people will say lovren had a great game yesterday because he bullied small lads upfront with no physical presence" when in reality he was his normal rash self who on another day could of given away two penalties, his nervous distribution put other players in trouble at times, he is cut from the same cloth as moreno and if he's back in the side on a regular basis then you watch the goals conceded column rise! Here's a question for you all, no beating around do the Bush just a straight YES or NO, would you have lovren in over gomez every game?

With trents form waro I would play them both, and move trent up the park so he can batter opposition goals with his longe range shooting.
