So we lost. we didn't play badly but a moment of pure class undid us. We had our chances but alas it wasn't to be. On a positive note surely this will make the team even more determined to get a result on Saturday. time to get behind the boys in red and stop being so bloody negative.

I’ll take the loss, hopefully it fires the team up again to go on another run of wins. I’d trade a first round loss in the cup for a win against Chelsea in the PL as I think it’s going to be close this year. Here’s to hoping.

There is a reason teams play weaker sides in the league Cup. Because it is the least important comp. It isn't mickey mouse but it is not a priority. I feel sorry for the fringe players as it is their platform and yet again we get a premiership team early on and we are out.

I don't understand criticism of Danny sturridge, he scored and got another shot on the bar. He was okay. Shaq played very well, he is entitled to shoot.

The worry as pointed out yesterday is the lb position. If robbo gets injured we are in big trouble. Liverpool need some new defenders.

I don't trust
Matjp
Lovren
Moreno

I like Lovren and maybe next to virgil he will be alright.

Also fabhino was a bit sluggish early on, he got better but I can see why klopp is easing him in gently.

Not arsed about the loss as a whole cos by my count, we created 7 good chances (incl. 4 CLEAR chances) before Hazard came on and should have been well out of sight before they scored. In fact, Studge should have had a hat trick and no one would be saying a damn thing about depth or Klopp's selection which I thought was pretty strong on paper. It also did not help that a prennially incompetent ref in Kevin Friend for the upteenth time, proved his incompetence by overuling an offside goal that VAR would have fixed in a second YET chose not to use it. Not much Klopp can do about that.

Having said that, some lessons need to be learned here. First off (apart from taking more of the chances we created), we need to find another LB to deputize for Robbo cos I am at my wits' end with Moreno's non-chanlance and complete defensive stupidity. Also, we have to start "taking one from the team", so to speak. Hazard should have been dumped on the ground BEFORE he got into the box and took his shot. Now, I don't know if Keita or Hendo were on yellows at the time cos if they were not, then they should have fouled Hazard to kill the move and deal the free kick later. As for the game at the weekend? Up Da Pool!

{Ed025's Note - lets not go down the "its the refs fault"road AGAIN! brover, it was a defeat by a decent team and you were without your stand out player in van dijk who is the lynch pin of the defensive unit, just take it on the chin and move on mate..

If Sturridge’s shot hadn’t of rickashade back off the cross bar we’d have probably won. Fine margins.

{Ed025's Note - ....and if my granny had balls she would be my grandad..

There is some truth in there Ed25. I saw you say earlier that beyond our first 11 we have nothing but we still managed to dominate a Chelsea side containing Fabregas, Azpilicueta, Morata, Kovacic etc. for 65 minutes and they had to bring on Hazard, Kante and Luiz to beat us.
Even then they were damn lucky to get the result, the free kick was more of a throw in than a free kick and the goal was offside.
Great goal from Hazard but they needed it to beat our squad players.
There’s no shame in losing to Chelsea I’m taking more positives than negatives. That side we had out last night would be pushing for top 4 in a premier league season.
Some teams (mentioning no names) can’t put out one team to push for top 4 but we have 2. It’s great to be a red! ☺️.

{Ed025's Note - im not saying you have nothing bobby but lets be honest the likes of moreno, de-clyne mignolet and matip wont win you anything in any time dimension, studge is ok but prefers the comfort of the treatment table to grass and with winter coming will be sitting it out with his tixyliks and hot water bottle at hand, your first team are great though and if they all stay fit then the league is well within your grasp mate, just prey that virgil stays fit because he is the key..

Ed25, you must have me mixed up with someone else. Where in my post did I say that it was all the ref's fault exactly? My post was clear and concise and lays the blame clearly on our shoulders for a) not taking our chances and b) not stopping Hazard during his fine run toward goal? Also, I never even mentioned VVD (you did) not playing so again, where are you getting all this from?

Me saying Kevin Friend is incompetent is news to NOBODY except and YES, we can say that we should have taken a our chances and done better to stop Hazard (our fault) WHILE also mentioning that a farcical ref like Friend, made another farcical move of validating a goal that was clearly offside. Multiple things can be correct at the same time, my friend. Who knew?

{Ed025's Note - i dont think friend was the reason you got beat brover which you clearly insinuated in your original post, refs get things wrong at times and nobody knows that more than everton this season mate, sometimes you just dont get the rub of the green and that happens, squad depth is the issue here and why you lost..

I agree with everything you just posted there, Ed. Maybe Klopp indeed tried to move Moreno this summer cos we all know per Ed01 has wanted Clyne gone for 3 seasons now so, we don't really know this for sure BUT it is clear that both of them need to go cos they can't cut the mustard anymore and we have known this for at least 3 years now.

{Ed025's Note - klopp is improving the squad brover but it cant be done overnight mate, its not easy to off load players with such lucrative contracts and thats what is stopping the progression of the squad quality in my view, klopp will get there though i believe if given time..

Klopp will get there? Ed025, you seem a cool bloke, very funny. I actually like Everton, loads of my mates and family are toffee fans and I would like any scouse team to beat a London team or a Manc team. But klopp pretty much is there, we are top of the league and CL runners up. Okay there is still one more step to make to reach the top of the podium but this loss does not mean we are not top dogs.

Sturridge scored so I won't knock him too much but he should have finished that open goal. The ref messed up but if refs were 100% right all the time we would probably still be 4 times winners of the ucl.

There are two players that need shipping out ASAP. Mignolet and moreno. We really missed milly and gini imo.

{Ed025's Note - long way to go yet MM but they look like the best team in the league at the moment mate, injuries will be key to liverpools chances though but if the likes of virgil mo and bobby stay fit there is no reason why they cant win the prem, they play great footy as well...DAMN THEM!.. :)

Hi Ed025, I'm not a regular poster but check in every day, I always enjoy your honest replies and humour. You definitely hit the nail on the head with Moreno, Clyne etc. How do clubs move these players on when they barely play as they are simply not good enough.
I wonder if these players are desperate to play or are happy to sit on the sidelines just taking the huge wages. Like you say they are on lucrative contracts which will never be matched at their next club.

{Ed025's Note - and thats the problem greenflash right there, i believe they want to play but they are not going to sacrifice a multi million pound deal to go and play for someone like leicester say and be on half the wages...they are not daft mate...just freeloaders.. :)

27 Sep 2018 22:21:42
Ed25, it may have sounded like I said that Friend made us lose the game BUT I repeat, that is NOT what I insinuated nor said as my original post suggests. Mind you had we won, I proly would still say Friend is incompetent and STILL made a mistake that could have cost us the game had we won.

Having said all that, I agree with you that squad depth esp. at fullback. As for Lovs and Matip, Lovren is a very good defender and has proven that already BUT he is lacking sharpness and Matip (who I am not fond of) has only played one full game this season so it is hard to form a partnership there at this point as both need to play more as a partnership. We all saw how great our defence was when he and VVD were the starting CB pair sincs last Jan. We led the PL in clean sheets since Jan till end of season (the streak is still on, btw) .

In midfield, we have the bodies there to compete depth-wise IMO, so no issue there. Up top, we are solid as well PROVIDED we take our chances and ALL the forwards have to improve there. Cheers, man.

{Ed025's Note - central defence is not a problem while virgil is in there brover, whether it be matip, gomez, lovren or uncle tom cobley he makes them all play better, whereas without him that ship has no rudder and i would not trust any pairing without him at the back, the forwards have perhaps not been at the best just yet mate but they dont have to be because the defence is so solid, god help us all when they click into gear...bring out the tin helmets.. :)

Clyne never does anything out of the ordinary, he won't try and go past a man the way trent does but he is solid. I have always thought the criticism of him is a little unfair. He had a poor season 2 years ago but was good last night. You never felt he is going to lose the ball or make an inaccurate pass. You need players to be back ups. They are not going to be world beaters but as long as they are solid and can do the basics well. He brought down some long diagonal passes really well. His first touch was quite impressive actually. I know some people want him out but I think he deserves a chance to prove he can be a part of this squad.

Someone said earlier that we should use the academy players as back up and I think that is a brilliant idea. It will make our youth players better and we will end up like utd in the 90s 00s.

If anything it will push Klopp not to pick anyone of the back 5 for the reminder. Talking about missed chances, Morata had a couple and wasted it like us!
Eden is a game changer and he could fool many defenders in the league! No shame just accept it! Brilliant winger and his bust to acceleration is top class!
We might need a full back in January else we are in trouble.

13.) 28 Sep 2018
28 Sep 2018 08:16:46
Mane Man, but Clyne did play some inaccurate passes, pretty sure it was him who played one behind Fabinho into the middle of the field. It would have been a Chelsea break but for Fab getting a toe in on a lunge.

14.) 28 Sep 2018

Ed25, mate, to say we have nothing past our 1st 11 is rubbish. Our bench against Southampton included,

Milner
Keita
Fabhino and
Sturridge.

Those players would walk in to most teams in the league, most teams in the world.

{Ed025's Note - im a big fan of milner MM and keita, fabhino is a lemon though and mark my words on that, studge is studge and although a talented guy has the heart of a mouse, if you think those 4 get in most teams in the world then not only are you deluded mate...you need the help of specsavers..

15.) 28 Sep 2018
28 Sep 2018 09:09:56
I don’t know another team in the league that could change their entire back 5 and compete against Chelsea.
We actually should’ve won the game comfortably too it was only an unlucky break that cost us the game in the end.
Moreno aside I am completely happy with our squad but if Robbo gets injured Milly could fill in there against the bigger sides.
It’s too easy for opposition fans to see we lost and say ‘past their first 11 Liverpool have nothing’. Fact is our squad players were well in the game and were better than Chelsea for the vast majority of it.

Spot on, Bobbie Blinders. Had we taken our chances, we would have all been hailing the depth in our squad BUT suddenly, cos we did not and Hazard scored a great goal, there is all of a sudden, a lack of depth in the squad. Typical.
