Hi ed002. Sorry if is much of an ask but as you have made us aware that the owners have left no stone unturned in their efforts to buy the league. Do you also know of a time frame they have set to win the league. I believe there would be clear instructions passed to Klopp and co that they need to win the league this season or the next.
Do you think our change in play and being more pragmatic in our approach to seeing out games has something to do with the same.
I would have believed all cups and trophies would have been a priority but we already out of one. It seems we are focused much on the league. Do you think this has been a clear message from the owners?
and Lastly do you fancy us winning it? i think when it comes from the owners it puts more pressure which kind of is good for us.

{Ed002's Note - The owners have wanted to win the league since they arrived - this has been made very clear and they have been astonished by quite how much money they have thrown at the club without a return of success. Their saving grace is the spiralling income in England over other countries which has significantly increased the value of the clubs. Debt has started to increase at an alarming rate again as one of the major plus points of appointing Klopp was that he did not need any significant expenditure on players and would build from within was thrown by the wayside. Regardless, the team is playing well and at the top of the lead. Like any other manager/coach/team/group of players every competition is one they want to win. I know many are saying that Liverpool deliberately threw away the game and let Chelsea win/Chelsea played their best possible team whilst Liverpool played their reserves/there was a conspiracy by the officials/the FA influenced VAR to make sure that Liverpool would lose/Jupiter aligned with Saturn as the white witches danced the Watusi to summon up the gods of Schnörk to ensure Chelsea won, but they didn't - Klopp and the players wanted the win. Liverpool are well placed this year to take a shot at competing for the Premier League title - it is what the owners really covet, but not at the expense of everything else. I think Liverpool will be in the mix at the end, and certainly Manchester City will, but there is no more pressure on Liverpool players/staff than there is on others. The Manchester City owners really desire the Champions League - but won't be throwing away the league title to achieve it. The Chelsea owner would like to win everything. And so it goes AK.}

thanks ed002. I for one feel we lost yesterday to a moment of absolute quality from Hazard. Otherwise things were fairly balanced between both teams. and any way one team had to loose.
I do feel though this is the toughest season to win the league, there are 3 clubs definitely going for it while many difficult oppositions this season like wolves, Watford, Everton etc. But i have a feeling we will win it. Glad we are in the mix and not the underdogs any more.

{Ed002's Note - I suspect your the only one AK. Everyone else is rolling out the usual excuses about it being everyone elses fault. Chelsea are a good side, Liverpool lost, move on - but they can't.}

It’s an interesting one. If the owners looked at the team Klopp had at Dortmund, there were some great players that didn’t cost anywhere near what the players cost now, even before the influx of all the new tv revenue in the game. Most of this was down to Zork and not Klopp I do believe. So maybe Klopp sold this to the owners

I love our owners and think they are doing a great job for my beloved LFC but more fool them if they thought the League could be won without pumping huge amounts of money into player recruitment.

Leicester aside, every other club has bought the league since 1992, United started it in the early 90’s once the riches of Sky tv was introduced, followed by Arsenal and the French Revolution, Chelsea from 2004/ 5 with the Russian oil money, now there’s city and the Arabs. And. Let’s not forget Blackburn in 1995, Kenny spent a fortune assembling that team

Before the FSG arrived, Liverpool also spent their fair share since the birth of the Premier League, none of this is new.

{Ed002's Note - Zorc is a truly great Director of Football - up there with the absolute best there is.}

Rekon we did enough to win the game, but in football you can be at your best with your best and still lost the game on merit. An opportunity to win a trophy closes here and so we move on and keep trying in the others.

It was a tight game yesterday and Liverpool fielded a keeper and defence who would not be in our first team.

If I were to chose a game to lose I would rather lose last night than Saturday.

Puts more pressure on us to win on Saturday but Chelsea are a top side - Chelsea, City and Liverpool were my top 3 at the start of the season (reverse order 😄)

Welcome to the ak ed2 love in
I don't know if you know this but fans are passionate about Thet lubs not whingers and whiners as you class all LFC supporters. Chelsea fans still go on about Garcia's goal that is football it's about passion for their team but you class us all under one banner how blinkered is that I suppose it cause reaction and debate but get over it.

{Ed002's Note - Thank you for providing such a thought provoking argument about the Liverpool fan base. Not so sure why you want to make it about someone else, but hey. I have never seen a post about “Garcia’s goal” on the Chelsea page, but you must remember that Jerry died back in 1995 and most will be too young to remember.}

Ed2, is there anything Liverpool can do about the refs always being against us, could the club put forward refs who are Liverpool fans or are trained by Liverpool to officiate all our matches. I personally think that could fix a lot of these “shocking” calls that go against us? 😜.

{Ed002's Note - Benny is looking to become a “Man in Black”.}

I don't know why we fans of all blame the Referee for anything. Not like he did any of that intentionally to want us to lose. its a part of the game. Its shocking that nobody acknowledges that it was the shear brilliance of a world class player that was the difference maker.
Ed 002 another questions here if you don't mind. Do you think LFC owners are taking the right approach though? Yes leagues have been bought before, nothing new in that. But LFC are continually going in debt as you have mentioned. Some of it is subsided as i understand from the huge TV money, But still debt is debt and if the plan does not work, it won't pay itself off. In such a situation i guess owners would be willing to sell and save grace. In such a situation this is not really a plan for sustained success. And let's say supposedly we win the league this season then we would need to spend more to continue the success, it would become a loop.
Back in some time Lyon, Bayern even Barcelona showed that if academies are strong and there is a continual supply of good players teams can achieve great success, however in most leagues this does not seem the case nowadays. Leagues are won by spending. My only concern for Livepool is that others involved in this money game have won and continue spending which i guess is warranted, however LFC have not won anything since the money game started and if they don't win now the situation could get ugly.

{Ed002's Note - I don’t think borrowing against future income is a great idea I am afraid, but they are banking on the continued increase in the value of the business. It was a 66% increase in the last reported year (the second highest in Europe) and overall it stands third or fourth world-wide in terms of total debt. Academies work if you stick at it and if there is a plan to progress players. The club are only now beginning to work the plan for progression so there is most definitely progress. What you won’t see is lots of youngsters coming through - they will eventually get to a point of cherry picking. It works better in other countries - the Netherlands and Germany would be top of the list - and Spain, France and Portugal not far behind.}

Tc77. never called fans whiners or whingers? but if that is all one does what do i do? we lost a game, and without acknowledging we lost it to brilliance of a player and blaming all referees what is the point? and well as you mentioned that ghost goal, then well yesterdays decisions were a equalizer for referees. can't have it all my friend. Can relax and enjoy football brilliance though.

{Ed001's Note - actually the 'ghost goal' was equalised by the ref not awarding us a penalty instead and sending off a Chelsea player, which he would have had to do otherwise.}

Some fans need to grow up and stop being so spoilt. We lost because Chelsea scored more goals, end of.
If we had taken our chances then it would have been a different story, but we didn’t. Stop crying about it and move on.

{Ed001's Note - so no one is allowed to question a bad decision? That doesn't mean anyone is saying it is why LFC lost, just that it was a bad decision and should be questioned.}

Took your time with that well thought out repost but does not answer the fact that you continually lambast loyal fans this is what fans do why don't you get it.

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what you are talking about taking my time. I am sat in a coffee shop in Mevagissy responding to you embarrassing nonsense. You clear did not read the posts from around ten last night where one excuse after another was claimed for the loss. You then want to bring some age old goal into the matter that you say Chelsea fans obsess over - it is simply not true. You are doing no more than making yourself look stupid and substantiating why so many use the term “laughing stock”. I will be getting back in to the car now and finding somewhere for lunch soon - so if that causes a slight delay to replaces you will have to suck that up as well.}

Third or fourth in debt, I guessed we'd be much better. Last year i guess the CL run added to our revenues. so it is clear as long as we keep winning something this can to be coped with, the moment we slip there debt coming back to haunt us.
Out of curiosity which club has the biggest debt? i'd guess Barca?

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United.}

Unfortunately I’ll never be biased boys. I believe when you make the select group of level 1s (prem refs) you will still officiate clubs you support Ed.
However; you will not be involved in title/ crucial positioning fixtures with said club, is what I understand. Nor games that don’t necessarily involve your club, but can affect them.
It’s ignorant to think referees don’t support prem clubs, it is what it is, we all grow up supporting someone, and without naming names I know of one referee who always wears long sleeves because of a tattoo, and another who had laser surgery to remove one.
I’m very much looking forward to some fixtures I’ve been given coming up, they are a great honour doing some of the best clubs in the world. One day I hope to make the championship, but I aim for the premier league. Why referee is something I always get asked, last night is exactly why.
I want to see the game I love, officiated correctly, an never be talked about.

Brilliant insight, Ed02. I fully agree with you that yes, the owners want the PL trophy cos well, they have shown themselves to be winners in the other sports where they own teams BUT they are not stupid enough to focus on that at the expense of anything else as that is just senseless, just like other big boys in the PL are. I agree with you also, that those "fans" trying to blame everyone else for our loss to Chelsea really need to go home and take a few days off. We lost cos we did not take our chances, plain and simple. Studge would have had a hat trick WAY before Hazard came on and had that happened, we aren't even talking about any of this and I'm sure Klopp knows that and so do the players. All in all, your take on these issues are always appreciated, man.

That's it brover.

I keep saying it but we lost Coz of that defence. The defence of 2 years ago. They ALWAYS collapse. Hazard would have been rubbing his hands.

I'm also a little worried about our front three. They are not clicking like last year. They are being selfish and not passing to each other when they should. I think on the training ground mane is the better player than salah. And I think he knows it. I also think salah's amazing goal run hit mane's confidence. Instead of "oh mane mane" (clap clap clap) it's "mo salh, mo salah" and now mane is top goal scorer, he wants it to stay that way. I think a loss will serve them well, it will put it all in perspective. If they click against city then we will go on and win the league.

It’s the way some fans question the decisions Ed001, I have no issue with a grown up debate. But brown envelopes and everyone against us? You must get a bit fed up reading these?

I think klopp realised we are not going to win this league with a few 5-10mil players and the odd 30mil signing. Not with City throwing 50, 60, and 70 mil at players and City throwing the same money around. Leicester was amazing, a freak occurrence.

You spend 7mil on a keeper you get karius. You spend 60 and get alisson Becker.
