So happy with the win yesterday! We got the job done in the first half and then completely controlled the game in the second. Shaqiri was brilliant, and it was a shame that the decision had to be taken to revert back to the familiar team.

Ed001 - with us playing Chelsea mid-week and then again on Saturday, do you expect many changes to the squad for the league cup game?

{Ed001's Note - yes mate. I think there will be a fair few changes.}

Love to really test our depth.

No vvd, no Salah or mane.

Get shaqiri on, see how the lads defend without the beast and attack without the gods.

If there's one game between now and city that we can rest a few unfortunately it's this game. Just doesn't mean anything to us with cl and premier league going like they are.

Got Chelsea, napoli and city next.

I’ll be honest. I’d like to see 11 changes for the league cup. It is just not worth it. Maybe it was 10/ 15 year so ago, but we’ve far bigger fish to these days.

23 Sep 2018 15:30:57
We haven't won a trophy in years. Daft to discount anything imo. Just say we end up with nothing at the end of the season and treated the League Cup with contempt?

4.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 15:38:52
But imagine we push on with the league cup and Salah breaks his leg on Wednesday.

How worth it was any time won this trophy when United when and 2on the title. Did it do us any favours at all.

It's a Mickey mouse cup. Means nothing. Sorry but that's fact.

The prem is all we can focus on.

5.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 15:44:02
And if Firmino breaks his leg against Chelsea’s second string on Wednesday you’ll still feel the same rover?
I put the league over even the champions league. Blood sweat an tears need to be lost at Chelsea and city in the league, not a trophy that’s had more names than I’ve had hot dinners.

6.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 15:57:02
Firming or Salah could break their leg in any game. It's a bit of a daft comment really.

7.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 16:07:40
We have a deep enough squad to play a decent side.

I’d go with resting our FBs and VVD and our front 3 and play Shaqiri in behind twin strikers

Allison
Moreno, Gomez, Matip, Clyne
Fabinho, Keita, Gini
Shaqiri
Solanke, Sturridge.

Thanks for the reply Ed, looking forward to your match review!

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate.}

The point us if it happens in a game that matters then there's nothing you can do.

Why does he need to play Wednesday.

It's pointless. Imagine losing him or any first team player in a game as meaningless as that.

10.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 17:10:00
Agreed SGRed, I'd be happy to see something like that too mate.

The league Cup is mickey mouse, fact.

Sorry but that is rubbish. The league Cup is pretty much Liverpool's trophy. I promise you this, the players will not be focusing on this comp or that comp. They want them all.

Yes it offers the least reward but it is a top end trophy, one to be proud of. Remember utd in the 90s, they always won the first trophy of the season. Same as us in the 80s.

I think it's a chance to play some fringe players because you usually come up against Peterborough or Rochdale but this is Chelsea. It will be a good game I think.

12.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 18:53:38
Rest key players so they are fresh for the 'bigger' games coming up not because you are scared they get injured. Play the fringe players to keep them sharp and hungry. Not knocking the league cup but it was the last trophy we won and then KK got the boot.

13.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 19:01:18
Point is we have won that pleanty of times and sod all else.

We have treated it with the up most respect and watched someone else win the title to many times.

Couldn't give a flying fudge if we win it, like don't care. Get the kids out, hopefully lose and keep your focus exactly where it needs to be.

14.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 19:28:13
I think we have won the League more than the League Cup. Maybe we shouldn't bother winning that either?

15.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 19:39:03
Migs
Clyne Matip Gomez Moreno
Fabinho Keita Wijnaldum
Shaqiri Sturridge Origi.

16.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 19:54:21
I'd almost agree completely SGRed
Except I think Gini needs a rest more than Hendo so

Allison
Moreno, Gomez, Matip, Clyne
Fabinho, Keita, Hendo
Shaqiri
Solanke, Sturridge.

17.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 20:17:55
anyone not named Google remembereho won the leagu cup last year? I dont.
they shoul rename it to the consolation cup.
mah kidding, but seriously I think we have to ne pragmatic about it. Rest and rotate but put a team out to win. Injuries can happen in any game. I mean Firmino jist about lost an eye in the league last week! It should be more about mental prep and energy.

18.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 20:59:26
We haven't won the league in almost 30 years.

We have player 6 won 6.

Name me a better start since we last won the league.

And you want to ass around with the bloody league cup trophy 🤣🤣 good god.

I would walk away from the champs league, vs cup and league cup right this fing second if it means the league. Simple.

19.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 21:26:45
Each to their own of course, everybody is making valid points but on this occasion I have to agree with Kloppsboss, I'd love us to go ahead and win the league cup but do we need it as a distraction? I'm not sure, personally I think it's one of them competitions which is past it's sell by date.

I want us to try and win every single game no matter what game or cup it is but the league has to be the priority. This doesn't mean I'm saying forget the league cup and we shouldn't try because after all it is a bit of silverware but it's all about the league for me.

If it meant us getting knocked out early on and we go and win the league, I think the majority would take that :) just a daft scenario for you all to ignore but you know what I'm saying.

20.) 23 Sep 2018
23 Sep 2018 22:43:12
Just to clarify, if the squad win the league cup then brilliant.

But we do not need our starter team having that extra worry.

I honestly would put the academy, fringe players and squad players out and see what happens

Mignolet
Clyne Matip Phillips Moreno
Fabinho
Shaqiri Curtis lallana origi
Sturridge

Wouldn't even put Salah, mane or firmino on the bench. I would give them the night off.

Where we are now is extremely good, but very rarely are you in a position like we are where you have had no-one want to leave. I honestly believe if we win the league we can keep them all but if we don't and especially if we win nothing, then the Madrid start knocking, our team That's been assembled could be really knocked with 1 or 2 leaving.

Mane and Salah spring to mind. Someone asked why city have never struggled with the lure of the Spanish club's for their players. Money played a part but it's the title guys! That's it. You win titles and players stay. You consistently get cl finals and semi finals then big players join.

You ass around in 4 competitions, and win nothing. Well.

Jack of all trades, master of none.

Go get the league boys. It's that simple.

That cements us and klopp for the absolute long term. project complete.

21.) 24 Sep 2018
24 Sep 2018 01:12:11
Thought at least two of that team are currently injured Kloppsboss? Yes let’s win the league cup but let’s plsy some of the second string too. Not Gomez though, he’s too precious. Phillips is well worth a good run out.

22.) 24 Sep 2018
24 Sep 2018 09:41:10
Only thing we’ve won in 10 years and you disrespect it?

Some of the worst injuries happen in training, perhaps we should stop Salah and Firmino from training?

Winning is a habit. Keep it going as long as you can. Use the squad, but that doesn’t mean 10 changes.

23.) 24 Sep 2018
24 Sep 2018 15:40:47
It’s not a daft comment at all. I’d rather they broke a leg an won 3 points, rather than winning a pointless game that can end up 120 minutes long, writing off players for the next two weeks.
Get the nostalgia crap out of ya, it is not a major trophy, nor do we have the bench that Man City boasted yesterday to try and compete on the 4 fronts.
I’ve no problem going for the fa cup, that actually has some worth.
