Hi eds,

Bit of a random question for you, apologies.

My mates parents would often have foreign youth players live with them when they first moved to Liverpool, despite them having no real affiliation with the club (Dani Pacheco and Suso among others when they were first signed) .

Just wondering if this is common practise, as it always struck me as slightly strange these players were looked after by someone not employed by the club?

{Ed001's Note - yes, that is common practice as clubs like to have youngsters staying with a family so they are not as alone as they would be in digs or a hotel. My parents were asked if they would put up youngsters from Boro when they lived near the training ground.}

Cheers for the reply Ed.
Can definitely see how it makes sense and would help with young players settling in to a new city or country, I'd just always assumed they'd be put up somewhere by the club rather than what is in effect a random local family.
Thanks again for the reply, have a good one mate.

{Ed001's Note - it has been going on for years. At least back as far as the Busby Babes era and probably before then when George Kay set up the first nursery team in England when he was Southampton manager, prior to taking the Liverpool job in the 1930s. Busby often said he learnt about management after joining Liverpool from Man City and playing under Kay, who he idolised. Funnily enough I was just reading about this over the last few days in my research on Kay as he is the next one I am doing an article on.}

Your parents live in Boro? Im from Boro! Small world.

{Ed001's Note - god no mate. They did live in Hurworth where the Boro training ground and team hotel etc is. Closer to Darlington really.}

Ed001, were your parents offered interpreters for the boro kids?

{Ed001's Note - no mate, they had lived in the area long enough to be able to understand the local accent....oh you mean in case the kids were foreign kids? ;-) The kids Boro were looking for homes for were all English speakers, though me dad can get by in German and French, and he is pretty fluent in Spanish, so he would have managed ok with most.}

Great info ed mate, really appreciate it. Look forward to reading the article on Kay, someone I know next to nothing about.
Have a great day mate.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate. He is a fascinating character, who was a big part of building the club's future success.}

Hi Ed

Any biographies on George Kay you know of? I can’t find any just what’s written on wiki.

{Ed001's Note - I would have to look it up when I got home as I am in the supermarket right now.}
