This is the first in the series I have seen. It hooked me and I’ve read all 3, great pieces that give me a great nostalgic feeling. Especially as I left FM behind many years ago when I had to focus on family life! 😂

Awesome stuff Ed1!

{Ed001's Note - I haven't played it in a long time myself. It is really enjoyable looking back at the old 'wunderkinds' though and seeing what they have become. Unlikely to happen with the modern game as they keep development to a much lower curve to avoid the anomalies and glitches of the earlier games. Sadly. It has lost its charm imo by doing so.

Really glad you enjoyed it though. I have a huge list of further wunderkinds to go through!}

Love these segments ed! Always give me that nostalgic feeling.
Hoping to see one on supat Rungratsame some day. if that means anything to anyone.

{Ed001's Note - don't worry he is on the list.}

Brilliant! He was a star in my Preston team a long time ago! Off the top of my head I remember a few other names too.

Lee Holmes-derby county
Kerlon-cruzeiro
John thorington (maybe more of a lower league star) .

Honourable mention to Damien Or Tallec, brother of our own Anthony!

{Ed001's Note - Preston? Don't let Ed003 see you mention that word or he will be upset!}

Ah, Mark Kerr and the Super Swedes. That was your four of your midfield and attack positions sorted in CM01/ 02 for well under £5m.

As Ed001 says, doesn't happen now. As well as changing progression and development, SI also have much bigger research teams these days. Usually if they get it wrong in more recent titles, it's because the player was highly rated in reality but just didn't meet expectations.

Another To Madeira is not getting through.

{Ed001's Note - I think they have spoilt it by doing so personally. It has lost some of the fun.}

Great stuff!
Have to admit that I've never heard about any of these players or their stories so it's really interesting to get the full perspective - we tend to focus on all the success stories in football (at least I do) that we sometimes forget, or simply just don't hear, about those "what could've been" prospects, so it's nice to get a peak into that. Very well written. I'll definitely look forward to more!

On a whole other note, this got me thinking about the stories of Ali Dia, Carlos Keiser etc - players who cheated, or at least tried to, their way through the game. If ever you need something new to write about, I assume ten years from now when you've pleased every single one of our needy needs, it'd be really interesting to learn more about that aspect in football and players of that type - some pretty funny stories in there I bet!

Champ manager 13-14 just kept raiding Dortmunds generated youth team after season 4 or 5.

tonton zola moukoko

A Champ Manager Legend if their ever was one lol
I miss the days of playing this game I really do
Thanks for the cracking article Ed001.

{Ed001's Note - I read somewhere he was the best player the game ever had, but not sure if that is true or not.

Glad you enjoyed mate.}

Surely Maxim Tsilgako is on the list, Ed001?

{Ed001's Note - he had to be on there as they spelt his name wrong, so he became legendary in part for that.}

I don't know about anybody else but I'm kind of addicted to reading Ed1s stuff. You write things so well mate, that made another great read.

I could've sworn I posted on this last night but it can't of gone through.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, thank you very much.}

Kennedy Bakircioglu and Kim Kallstrom were always 2 of my favourites, but there was a young lad from Huracan in Argentina that I used to buy every time and I can't for the life of me remember his name. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Aimar or Saviola, but it could be. I don't think he's on traditional Champ Man lists either because I seem to remember he only became prominent in the game if you bought him and was hard to find. Can anyone please help? It's doing my swede (ish wunderkind) in.

Never mind. Pablo Brandan was his name. He ran my midfield for years after signing him at 17. Ah the wonders of duel nationality.

The only ex-Huracan player i can remember is Rene Houseman.
