Good read mate. I feel you’ve done an injustice in not giving enough praise to Gini imo, he was the most consistent of the 3 midfielders yesterday ( they were all fantastic) but Gini was the absolute cog. Winning balls back, covering players out of position, never losing the ball and basically dictated the whole game for Milner and Naby to have a touch more freedom. Good read though an pretty much agree on all points.

{Ed001's Note - thank you mate.}

Ed001 cracking read. I totally agree on TAA about him needing more composure on the run with his crosses. Milner is like the polar opposite. He whipped in a great ball for Firmino on the run yesterday but then struggled to beat the first defender on his corners. What was your take on Hendo replacing Firmino at 3-0 up? For me it a a little strange swap but what do I know compared to Klopp. You and the other Ed’s keep up the great work.

{Ed001's Note - I think it was the right choice. Made us slightly more defensive, but did not cede the initiative and allowed Keita to carry on melding with the others.}

Hi Ed.

Thanks for the review. It is good to have them back!

I thought we were superb yesterday, it was the first time in my time as a Liverpool supporter that we actually managed a nice, easy win to kick the season off rather than the nervy, mediocre displays we had become used to.

Just on Fabinho, where do you expect him to slot into the side eventually?

{Ed001's Note - I never once at any point in that game even felt worried they would score. It was a completely dominant performance.

Fabinho will be the one sitting in front of defence mainly. Unless we get an injury to Trent and he has to cover right back.}

Good review ed, but surprisingly no mention of the referee. I think he got every single decision wrong.

{Ed001's Note - not worth mentioning him, he is a Mancunian and should not be refereeing games involving any of the Liverpool or Manchester sides. The pressure on him is immense, it is not right or fair to put him in that position.}

Benny, I can't agree with Gini being the most consistent of the 3 midfielders, yes he held his position well but I thought he slowed the play down when in posession far too often, he hasn't the creativity to play that role, I see him more of an attacking midfielder who makes late runs into the box, both Keita and Milner were much more effective and consistent yesterday.

The thing that stood out for me was it was like Anfield of old, red shirts flooding forward from everywhere like a tide.
It seemed like there was 15 x Liverpool players on the pitch, the work rate was tremendous and the pressure on West Ham overwhelming.

Great review Ed, much appreciated and totally agree with your comment re the ref, exactly what i said to my other half. Putting that aside, i do think he was poor although it could've been worse we could of had Mike Dean.

{Ed001's Note - good point.}

You are just like me Ed01, there were too many things to love about the game.

Towards the end, Keita spent more time on the left flank, and he was just as great. Wow! Just wow!

{Ed001's Note - he is defo better in the centre though.}

Thanks for the review Ed001. Milner was simply amazing wasn't he? Running around like a 20 year old. It's amazing a 32 year old still has that drive and determination to put in a shift the way he does. I even noticed more leadership from him on the field; shouting and giving instructions, which is also unusual for him. I hate placing high expectations on the team because more often than not it jinxes them and i get disappointed. But, this team this year really looks the business.

{Ed001's Note - he is getting better and better. He deserves so much credit for that.}

Ed, great read so thanks for that mate. Do you think that Gomez could usurp Lovren this season? Or do you think that he's still a bit inexperienced to become starting cb?

{Ed001's Note - the only way to get experience is to play, so no, I think the issue is whether he can be consistent or not.}

James Milner must be one of the best signings we've ever made.

Great read, one observation I had on Robertson was his end delivery. He normally puts in 1 decent cross a game but yesterday seemed to be hitting the ‘spot’ more often than not. So much so it eluded our forwards!

Great game to start the season off, enjoyed how vocal Milner was on top of his already great performance. Really made a difference, especially when it came to relaxing Trent and giving him options. He was improving towards the end of last season but I wonder if the new additions have made him raise his game another level. Also nice to see Sturridge on the scoresheet, hope the added muscle helps with injuries as him and Keita seem to be developing a solid partnership.

Fantastic that Ed, saw it earlier but didn't have time to read it so been looking forward to reading that, cheers mate!

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate. Not a lot to say about a performance that good!}

Just read this Ed and it was spot on, imo the team looked good against a very poor West Ham but maybe we made them look that way instead of them actually being that poor
Thank you for the article.

{Ed001's Note - it is a difficult one to be sure, but they did not look organised, which made it easier for us.}

What I did notice with Trent though Ed is that he seems more confident than ever before. Yes his delivery needs to be better but seeing the confidence in him trying time and time again is perhaps something we would not of seen of him last season. Very positive performance.

{Ed001's Note - he is getting there. His defending is better, I was just picking out that because it was about all that was wrong with the performance and didn't just want to say 'did great' about everyone!}

Ed01, I remember you saying one time last season (after we thumped some bus-parking team at Anfield), that the WH perf. is reminiscent of what Bayern do to the "lesser" teams in the Bundesliga at the Allianz Arena. You said that Bayern do not play around with them nor give them any hope. They go out there, lay their marker down to the minnow, letting them know not to bother trying to do anything fancy or having any hope of even creating a chance cos you will get the hiding you deserve".

In short, Bayern just steamroll these teams at home and hopefully LFC can be like Bayern. Hopefully with the perf last night, we can have this mentality and attitude so when the lesser teams come to Anfield, they know they are already 2 down once they come off the coach. Here's to hoping.

{Ed001's Note - that's what we need.}
