Sturridge has been playing in the number 10 role for the preseason what you reckon? For the Westham game having mane firmino Salah with sturridge just behind in the 10 role, or do you think lallana would get the nod with keita and fabinho behind him. Now that matip is out I'm worried about the CB position Gomez and klavan available with the former who is unproven and latter to slow probably would play better in a back three.

How can you play a back three with Mane, Salah, Firmino, Sturridge, Keita and Fabinho playing? Only play one wing back maybe, and nobody on the other side?

If we don't sign any other Fekir, then I think that could have some legs (geddit? ) .

Once Hendo is back, however, I can definitely see a middle three of Fabinho (No 6), Hendo (No 8) and Keita (No 10) as well.

Would be interested to see Shaqiri in there too.

There is no way we start with Sturridge, Firmino, Mane and Salah in the same team against West Ham.

Alisson-Fabinho-Gomez-VanDijk-Robertson-Salah-Wijnaldum-Keita-Mane-Sturridge-Firmino. 4-4-2 for WestHam game.

Sturridge has been playing a bit deeper than before, but I still think he’s a proper striker and adapting to dropping deeper to get on the ball while also creating space for Mane and Salah to make runs into the box (like Firmino does) rather than someone who’s likely to become a traditional no.10.

{Ed025's Note - a traditional shirker is his forte fore me SG..

OP, Mane is better in the no. 10 role than Studge is and even he will not be the no. 10 for us if Fekir does not come in. Where Studge fits in eventually? I don't know but him playing the no. 10 role is one I don't see happening. Keita is more suited to that than even Mane is.

Also, What is this obsession with the back 3, exactly? Not all teams can play it effectively if you don't have the right players to play it successfully. CB issues or not, a back 3 exposes a lot of gaps in the wide areas that the midfielders have to cover with CB's who will have to defend one on one in wide areas.

Cos we played it couple of times in the past due to injuries and it worked does NOT mean it is ideal as we do not have the players to play it effectively, IMO. Playing a back 4 allows you to cover more ground on the pitch in terms of width and defend effectively esp. out of possession. It also allows you to be more compact in defensive scenarios out of possession. I don't see Klopp changing that for this season.

Have these people who are talking up Sturridge actually watched him the last 3 years? I go on the games so see what he does off the ball. which is zero, he doesn’t bother breaking into a sprint and his once cool finishing has deserted him. For me he would be better suited going to a slower less physical league, maybe Italy? But he’s on too much of a wedge here and we can’t get shut of him.

Harsh but not entirely unfair over the last 4 years Ed. I’ve been a firm believer we need to move on from him given he has flattered to deceive ever since 13/ 14 but every now and again I can’t help but think how good it would be if he really came good!

{Ed025's Note - his talent is not in question SG unfortunately his attitude and application are mate, its not as though this is a recent problem either as the same was said when he was at previous clubs..

Time for Sturridge to move on.
