anyone read sturridge's interview? I think I seen his words about naby circulated on here. but he also talks about his own progress and development at the club.

I was really impressed by his words. he has to prove it on the pitch obviously. but the words he spoke were promising and spoke a bit to how he may be seeing the big picture a bit better now. Got me thinking that some of his injuries and limitations of the past couple seasons have been because he has been trying to keep being the off the shoulder striker he used to be. Whereas in actuality he needed to adjust his game. After some time away from the club perhaps he is appreciating his place at the club and the all round role he can play for us.

Hey it could be all talk, but tbh it sounds good. And I genuinely hope he can implement it onto the pitch and keeps himself healthy to do that.

{Ed025's Note - or it could be that his contract is up next year and he,s asking himself where the hell am i going to get this sort of money for laying on a treatment table for most of the year?..cynical maybe faith but my memory wont erase the picture of him lying on a sunbed in the states sipping a cocktail by a pool when the weather here was below freezing while undergoing "treatment", two words come to mind..piss and taker, talented guy for sure but the heart of a mouse mate..

ED25, agreed, how many chances does Studge get, huge wages in the hope he stays fit? He got a great opportunity to go on loan and get back to good form again and broke down again, the sentimentality on here is bizarre at times, I'm all for back our players but sometimes it's better to just move on.
Oh and if he does go and has a good season somewhere people will have the great pleasure to come on here and tell everyone "I told you so", so winner winner chicken dinner.

{Ed025's Note - i just think hes after an easy life mac, good for him but not for the club who have bent over backwards to accomodate him and have been more than fair with him, i dont pretend to know what issues he has mentally or physically but from the outside it looks like he is taking the proverbial mate..

I’d prefer to keep Origi than Sturridge. He hasn’t looked at all like himself in years. Best thing for him and the club is to move on. Appreciate what he did but a fresh start might be what he needs. He can still develop his game but he’ll unlikely fit in with a team that requires him to work so hard.

To be fair to the lad, Ed025, I watched a lot of him after he came to Liverpool in that January transfer window. He transformed the team and was fantastic.
He was taking a lot of service with his back to the goal - it wasn't over the top stuff - and he took some terrible hammer as a result.
I vividly remember a match at Old Trafford in the League Cup when Phil Jones kicked him to pieces and never even got a card when he should have had about six yellows!

There was definitely a competitive dynamic between Sturridge and Suarez, and it helped to bring out the best in Sturridge.
But it was like he fell to pieces after the Uruguayan left. Mind you, with Balotelli and Lambert as his partners, you can see why!
The perennial hope is that Liverpool's attacking riches inspires him once more, and gives him the opportunity for rotation and rest if he does have chronic physical issues?

{Ed025's Note - suarez was great for him juicer and helped him immensely while he was there thats for sure, his inspiration now seems to be the pay packet and the smell of liniment in the treatment room, nice guy by all accounts but as a playing asset he is a total waste of space unfortunately mate..

Can't argue with that Ed25, harsh but true mate. I love the lad and want him to get to his best again, unfortunately that won't happen and he's about as much use as an old ornament in my loft. He's had an easy ride for a few years now, getting paid top dollar and for what? nothing. He'll walk on a free next year.

Agreed aoe, I'd rather have Origi too mate.

Have you watched Origi in the 4 pre season matches? This was his chance to be first choice back up for Firmino. Origi has been terrible, always makes the wrong decision, runs down blind alleys and very wild in front of goal. He also had a poor loan spell for the bottom German club.

Origi has actually gone backwards in the last 2 years, no where near the standard required.

Have to disagree, Sturridge from the bench is a scary option to have, if he scores 10+ goals this season, get him on a year extension, it'll cost us 30-40 mil to replace him with a decent back up option anyway.

That's the hope, red-till-i'm-dead.
He's definitely capable of that.

You can't help but come to any other conclusion that the one Ed025 makes above, so it seems that we won't be able to sell him.
If not, use his talents, such as they are now, and in the process it serves the team and himself by helping to secure a move elsewhere next season?

'if he scores 10+ goals this season'

That's a big if mate.

Morning Salah, I don't agree with quite a lot of your opinions on players, but your post re Walter I totally agreed with. Well done for that one.

Morning mark. Thanks, I thought that post was necessary, some people can go over the top a little bit at times and I think with Walter being the negative of us all, he gets misinterpreted quite a lot which lead to stupid accusations which imo is uncalled for.

No worries about not agreeing with me mark mate, we all have our opinions, the world would be a very boring place if we all agreed :) .

Have a good day mate.

Let's not forget he's been with us for 5 or so years, he's one of us as far as I'm concerned, injuries or not. People keep mentioning the 150k a week he's on but as is regularly said on here when it comes to transfer fees " its not my money ", besides he's never damaged the clubs reputation or let himself down in any way, I for one hope he stays and proves all the doubters wrong.

{Ed025's Note - when you say "not let himself down in any way" RTID do you include wasting a god given talent through laziness and lack of heart?, or even obtaining money under false pretenses?...just a question..

Compare Suarez' build, like a more squat middle-weight boxer, with the taller, leaner and more athletic stature of Sturridge though Ed025.
As I said, he's taken some awful stick. Some of the defenders are proper units and you'd know all about it if they hit you.
Maybe he has lost the desire though to keep getting back up, who knows?

{Ed025's Note - or maybe he thinks sitting on a couch or lying on a sunbed is an easier life than running till it hurts or getting tackled juicer?, hes on the same money whatever so who knows, im not a doctor or psychologist but it does look bad mate..

I don't believe he's lazy Ed, I remember a player that was willing to head on loan to Bolton just to prove himself (and bagged some great goals for them), I see a player who's confidence was shot full of holes due to injuries when really he could of done with some backing from his supporters. He's great with the fans, he's always smiling and it feels like 90% of the fan base just shoved him to one side. I don't see any headlines in papers about him being caught drink driving with a hooker in the car at 3am 😜👍.

{Ed025's Note - i hear hes a really nice guy RTID and brilliant with the youngsters at the club but thats not the point, peoples perception of him is that he wont play if he breaks a finger nail mate and to be fair he has generated that persona himself...by the way if he was with a hooker she would be the one on top.. :)

Jesus Ed025 your hammering Studge mate. He has had his fair share of injurys but I for one hope he can stear clear of the treatment table and play back up to Bobby.

{Ed025's Note - its nothing personal KR and as a person i have lauded him up to be fair, as a footballer though he leaves a lot to be desired imo mate...with desire being the operative word..

Haha well let's hope he doesn't get the number for one of wazza, at her age she'll probably be the one with a hip injury in the end.

25 Jul 2018 10:27:27
He should take a seriously reduced pay packet though. Or if not I hope he is donating a lot of what he is getting to charity but I haven't heard of him doing so.

If he can stay injury free and perform like he is capable then that’s fine, keep the money like xD.

I loved Sturridge. One of my favorite players. Would love to see him get back to it but it’s 3 years since he’s looked like he’s up to it. It’s not a case of him getting it back, it’s a case of him being unable to do what he used to do. I think he could still do it in a team where he can save himself running. He’s a sublime finisher. If he could play at a team where he hovers around the box he’d be great. I just don’t think it’s at Liverpool. As for Origi, he’s still young and I think he could do a better job than anyone else at the club from the bench and who knows beyond.

I should also add mark, I haven’t managed to see any preseason matches this year yet so I can’t defend him at all. Could be a good omen though cos normally I see them all. If you say he’s lost it then fair enough, I wouldn’t mind a better option to Origi but I wouldn’t mind seeing if he can do it for half a season when he gets used to the system.
