Afternoon all. There was a recent discussion on here regarding players that Liverpool have signed in the past that failed to reach their expected level.

Another one for me was Stan Collymore. I remember there hope and promise regarding his signature.

He was impressive at Nottingham Forest and came with a high price tag at the time (8.5 mil I think it was) .

If I'm recalling correctly, his first goal was a top corner curling screamer! Aside from that, his late goal against Newcastle and 1 or 2 other moments I don't recall him doing that much in his time with us.

He did okay for us nothing more, certainly a let down from what people thought he would do. Villa came in with an offer and we recouped most of the transfer fee, good business on our part as he flattered to deceive the rest of his career.

Collymore to me is not given enough respect for his on the field accomplishments
off the field a right old tool but at liverpool the season he and fowler had together was just amazing even to this day, Roy Evans still calls Collymore the best ever partner Fowler had.
for me is the most frustrating liverpool player ever, as he had it all but was too immature to know and appreciate it.

Over 50 goals between them that season 👍.

The one thing that always stands out for me about the Collymore transfer. We signed him for £8.5m the same transfer window Arsenal signed Bergkamp for £8m. I know who I'd rather have had.

Bergkamp was different gravy. I regularly watch YouTube clips of him, just an absolutely majestic footballer. His ball control bordered on the ridiculous at times.

Thing I remember about Collymore the most is him beating up his missis. don't really need to know anything more about the scumbag.
