Chris Kirkland has been named goalkeeper coach for the Liverpool ladies. Congratulations to him on his first job in coaching and good on him for respecting the ladies game!

No offence but that's a little patronising. I wouldn't normally bring it up but if you want to praise him for respecting the ladies game then all your doing is highlighting the difference or suggesting that he deserves respect for stooping to deal with the womens side of things. It's innocuous really,

Like I said, I really do mean no offence because you're not the first and certainly won't be the last, but it is the same with any other equality subjects. If you highlight the fact there is something to be respected there, you only serve to keep a distinction between the two and that is the antithesis of equality in my eyes.

Congratulate him for the job but don't say well done for doing what he should do already. Breathe in (well done), breathe out (well done), respect women (well done) .

Innocuous really (pressed send too early), but it is unnecessary. It's the done thing to mention it nowadays so everyone knows you believe in equality etc. It's like being passive aggressive (saying what you really mean without actually saying it), but in terms of showing how liberal you really are, without saying so, if that makes sense.

AB, seems like an overreaction to a positive message from MK. Pedantic really.

I think we all know what MK means and I’m sure we’d all like to pass on our congratulations to Kirk.

Bardzo

I think you might be the only one who reads mks post and picks it up that way.

Bit of an overaction mate.

6.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 15:57:48
Not necessary Bardzo we all knew what he meant.

7.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 16:14:08
I certainly echo the first bit.

8.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 16:23:14
Not patronising at all if you read it with an open mind. First job for Kirkland, so it's news. And he's doing something different from what is being done (for example, men coaching women, or women coaching men, or a teenagers' coach coaching the first team and vice versa), so it's news again. If you don't talk about changes then how do people know about them? Clear overreaction.

Unbelievable ❄❄❄.

10.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 16:27:58
Then why mention the fact that Kirkland needs congratulating for respecting the Women's game? Surely that is a given? I know MK hasn't yet and may not reply so this is not at him, just the attitude that you need to be seen to make the comment about it. If you don't get it then fine.

11.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 16:32:00
honestly, what's the world coming to? its fairly obvious the sentiment in which MK's comment was meant and judging by what I've read from him he's fairly inoffensive. who wants to strike up an argument on here about inequality over a post which wasnt trying to do that. fair enough its a subject in football which may need to be tackled but if you care that much start your own thread.

12.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 16:46:37
I get it, Swishcleaner. It wasn't intended to start an argument, I was the first to comment and it was directly to MK, but everyone's got an opinion so it's other people's prerogative to reply. The sentiment is fine, execution was off. If it's ok to tell someone off for saying something deliberately offensive, then surely it's ok for that person to be made aware that what they have said can also be construed as being offensive, if not intended (The old 'They're from a different generation' trick doesn't work with someone in their 20's) .

Also, I could have started a separate thread, but then it wouldn't work with the comment I was originally commenting on. It's a bit like you getting offended by my comment on MK's behalf, telling me so and not starting your own thread about it.

Great news, good luck to the man.

I'd go with the "may not reply" assumption, mate. Nothing personal but my weekends are my down time and I just don't have the energy for this. Grab a beer from the fridge and put on a frock. That's what I'm going to do.

15.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 16:55:04
Calm down bardzo for christ sake.

16.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 17:00:28
In fairness the women's game has come on leaps and bounds in the last 10/ 15 years. I remember watching it 20 years ago. Doncaster bell's dcm header Ed a ball away from her area and was unconscious for 10minutes.

They can play now, good luck to Kirkland.

Whichever editor changed that to "frock", you are a genius.

This is the politically correct world we are now living in guys. You can't compliment someone without somehow offending someone else.
Good luck to Chris with his new job.

Hey mk, enjoy your bear mate!

21.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 17:38:19
Then put a frock on, and join mk for a beer 😆.

22.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 18:13:14
AB, I get exactly what you're saying and we should look forward to a time when a man working in the Women's game isn't remarkable but MK was being supportive and that shouldn't be knocked. I think you jumped the gun on this one.

{Ed002's Note - All Women's Premier/Super League head coaches are men excpet Chelsea, Reading and Brighton.}

23.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 18:20:19
And after your bear, go enjoy a beer as well 🤪.

24.) 21 Jul 2018

Boy, that escalated quickly.

Aoe, are you calling my Mrs a bear?

26.) 21 Jul 2018

I take it back Ed2, apparently it's not remarkable already, good job everyone.

When there is genuinely little distinction between the two then perhaps you might consider mk’s statement as such. However, we aren’t there yet and sadly won’t be for a few years. I don’t see any problem in Mk’s words at all. It’s like criticizing “kick it out” for pointing out that there are racism issues and if they didn’t mention it so much there wouldn’t be an issue. Pretending there isn’t an issue is creating an issue of ignorance and criticising someone for such is disrespectful for those who fight for said campaigns. Whether we like it or not, some people do need to be told that these good movements are happening. So well done Kirkland. Here’s to this not being an issue in a few years time.

30.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 21:13:06
Good post, aoe. I just think sometimes, considering the amount of men working in women's football and the sharp rise in popularity and recognition of it as a professional sport, those comments are unnecessary nowadays. If I have offended anyone by suggesting as much then I am sorry. Apparently we still need reminding from time to time.

Flash, I have issues that you doubtless couldn't begin to comprehend.

31.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 23:10:01
Falsh whatever his 'issues' are, they're none of your concern. I do know of Bardzos 'issues' to a certain extent and it's something I'd wish on nobody. You probably didn't mean anything by it Flash so I'm not having a go or anything but remember you never know what somebody might be going through at the other end.

Cheers Salah. He's just got a bee in his bonnet about a thread the other day. No harm done.

Lovely fella Chris and he’s been through some tough times, hope he has a great career as a coach 👍.
