I think what hurts me the most about the Fekir deal is the fact that he was literally a Liverpool player - then he wasn't. I mean he'd already done the lean! Its like you're really hungry and someone serves you up your favorite dish, and you've soaked in the flavors already salivating, and right as you're about to dig in, they pull it away from you.
Anyways, no matter what happens, the squads already in a fantastic place. If Klopp truly meant no further signings are coming in then so be it. But this is a guy who named Danny Ward our new no 1 literally hours before agreeing a world record fee for Alisson so I'd take things at face value. Might not be Fekir coming in in the end (though a little part of me is still hopeful) but I think there could be one more in at that position.

When did he name Danny Ward as number 1?

Well tbf I didn't get a direct quote from Klopp but most reliable journos said he had named Ward his new number 1. I'm sure you can find it with a quick search. Which is why most fans thought the Alisson deal was dead.

'most reliable journos'

Does that exist mate?

The point still remains. Take what is said at face value. It was also said our interest in VVD was gone. Similar stuff with Keita. I'm just saying the Fekir deal feels dead but at the same time it doesn't. Or at least our summer ins.

To be fair he wasn't wrong if he have said Ward would be competing for first choice this season.

Just at Leicester.

Enough with this 'he said you'll be fighting for no. 1' crap already. If you are in the squad should someone really need to tell you that? Shouldn't that already be the aim? Danny Ward seems to be a good lad but we all need to realize that he CHOSE to leave for Leicester instead of continuing to fight for his place. Unless Schmeichel leaves chances are he'll still be a deputy there too.

jcan, given how Ward was screwed over last season I only think it's fair that he left us for playing time.

RC, was he screwed over or did he screw himself over and not try hard enough? there's a reason why he wasn't given his chances mate, there must be. Just guess work from me though because I have no idea what the situation was, I just feel he'd of got his chances if he'd of worked hard enough in training etc? surely? He didn't get a look in for a reason imo.

Still, a great move for all three parties, good for us getting that amount, Leicester because I see him impressing in the future and for Ward himself, maybe he'll get more playing time because after all Schmeichel is hardly world class.

Salah, given how the whole goalkeeper situation was handled by Klopp last season (and prior to that), I wouldn't be surprised if Ward genuienly got screwed over. It just seems pretty illogical to me that he wasn't given the loan back to Huddersfield to further improve himself.

I see your point though mate, I'm unsure as to how much he applied himself or had the level to overtake both Mignolet and Karius. But given how much time we had a mistake prone Mignolet between the sticks, to me it seems like it all comes down to poor management in the end. When Mignolet finally got replaced Klopp almost had to play his own buy in Karius (who in the end deservedly made it his own spot), but to me it just doesn't seem like Ward had much of a chance to get a look in to begin with.

Totally agree about last part. Going to Leicester is a great move and I think he'll take Schmeichel's spot in the very near future.
