For us to improve on our league position from last year, we have to win more games. Its simple.
So we either have to score more goals or concede less.
Coutinho score about 10 goals (not sure of the exact number) .
Salah has a season of a lifetime, so he may score about 10 less goals this season.
That's 20 goals less.
Now Keita may score a few and maybe Shaqiri will score a few.
Would the addition of Alisson and VVD prevent us from scoring 10 goals? That would bring us to about the same goals scored to goals conceded difference to last year. Where does the improvement on either more goals or less goals being conceded come from?
We may just need a Coutinho replacement.

Blimey you thought long and hard about all that. Football is not played on ifs or buts just enjoy the fact we are assembling a pretty decent team with a great manager so the only way is up.
Up the pool.

Are you kidding? So we have just spent a fortune on players and improved the team and you think we will be at the exact same point?
Some people are never happy.

The defense will be more confident having a top goalkeeper behind them, so they will perform better (hopefully) and anything that does get through, gets through to said top class keeper.

we have a proper DM now in Fabinho, to protect the back 4 and Keita is one hell of a ball winner too.

we have stronger, deeper depth. hopefully this means we can continue to attack for 90+ minutes instead of running out of steam around the 75th minute, going to a back 5, dropping stupidly deep and getting pummeled by waves of attacks for 15-20 minutes.

For the creativity, Keita is already - in pre season friendlies - showing amazing vision and passing range to the front players, his passing to the usual front 3 will result in a lot more goals all round as well as grabbing a few for himself.
Even if Salah gets less than last season, bobby and Mane could potentially get a lot more.

Teams that park the bus will be less of a problem (still a problem but not as much) with Shaqiri, fabinho and Keita all capable of scoring some long range screamers to cut out and shock them if needed.

Aaaarrrhhhhhhhh this post made me angry lol.

I didn’t realize the league was won on goal difference! I thought it was won on points. Last season we put 7 past Arsenal and earned 4 points, winning 4-0 and a 3-3 draw. If we had only beaten them 3-0 at home but 4-3 away we’d have scored the same amount of goals but earned 6 points, there’s the improvement.

By that logic, Alisson is a complete waste of time and space. So it's best to just find the Coutinho replacement, and with the same number of goals conceded, and with the Coutinho replacement adding the extra 5-10 goals scored, voila we are good enough.

It is that simple. Isn't it?

{Ed001's Note - Alisson was one of the most creative players in Serie A, he might well create more goals for us, as well as stopping them.}

As soon as I read your previous comments on how you rated him, I am all down to him, Ed01. Trusted your judgment than anyone else's here, and that's not a compliment!

Please let Liverpool win the league this time, please God please.

{Ed001's Note - if you need more on him, there is an article on the BBC about him by James Horncastle which is worth a read. He is one of many seasoned Serie A watchers who agree with me that Alisson is a special talent and was the outstanding player in the league last season.}

Yeah I read it, Ed01. Really hope he can be the Liverpool's Buffon!

{Ed001's Note - he certainly has the talent. It has been a long time since I have been this excited about a new season! I don't think we had truly solved the goalkeeper position since Brucie left. Reina was good, very good, but he was never world class, always that step below the greats. Alisson has the potential to be the one on the top step that all the rest are compared to.}

In addition to the comments already made, the original poster is assuming all the other teams get the same number of points as last season.

Pretty obvious they won’t 🤝.

Looking forward to seeing Alisson play, just hope Achterberg doesn’t ruin him.

The key is to stop throwing away leads and close out games we should win - Everton, Chelsea, Spurs, West Brom, Watfors, Arsenal.

Win more points against our rivals, too many dropped last season. Recover from CL games in a better fashion which the improved squad will remedy.

Finally, some bloody luck and referees willing to give us penalties!

Strongly believe we will win the title this year. We have for manly a strong spine and a solid defensive midfielder in Fabinio . Look forward to Utds long ball to lukaku when he is sandwiches between Fabinio and Lovren.

Come on u redmen! This is it . YNWA.
