Should there be 1 appeal per team per half for var decisions and a second ref no-one knows at the game to review the appealed decision.

That pen would of been over turned.

Very harsh on croatia.

The ref viewed VAR, there’s no way that would of been overturned, the match ref would walk out as it’s basically saying his judgement is wrong.

FYI the decision was awful I agree.

Feel for Croatia, they’ve been mugged by poor refereeing.

It protects the refs imo. Gives them a get out. That ref just ruined the world cup final. Replays have to be shown in real time aswel. Handball in slowmo always look worse.

Takes the context out of the scene. Fast ball, 1 yard away etc.

Boys I felt like it was a penalty. Harsh, and I wish it hadn’t been given, but you can’t make yourself bigger with your arms with no consequence.

Penalty was correct decision. The defenders left arm moved much faster than his right. Not a clear and obvious error though.

Thing for me is that the ruling is there but refs don't see to listen, play they can't work in tandem. Should be used for offsides and clear obvious errors like it says.
But, my main qualm with it is, refs are deliberately not giving fouls in the box as they know they can stop and check VAR - but then you can only change it if it's clear and obvious?! A lot of the time I believe the ref has an inclining it's a pen then check Var and give it, it's not an error. Just doesn't make sense.

TR. if its in the PL you can. Recall the last match Liverpool played last season? I'm sure there was a couple of v clear handballs with no consequences.

Gutted for Croatia though. They might not have won it, but at least let it be about the better team winning and not the referring decision having some form of influence, especially after the much acclaimed VAR.

Congratulations to France!

Croatia played majority of the match in a state of total dominance. France did appear to be rocking against a team that never knows when it’s beaten. And then, Croatia were very hard done by the VAR. Perisic had an impaired view and it seemed very, very harsh of the referee to decide, on the back of repeated viewings, that the handball was deliberate. So much for VAR putting an end to game-changing controversy.
More shots, more possession, more threat, much easier on the eye. I really don't understand how France won, I've never said a 4-2 was undeserved before but I would like someone to argue that this.
France rode their luck, Croatia were the better side and should have won the game but they haven't. But that is football and France are world champions and that is all anyone will remember.

I felt that France could move up another level if necessary. It's been great tho, despite the negativity before it started. VAR was always going to be controversial but I would say that the refs eventually got most decisions right. Saying that, I'm still not a fan. I hate the tinkering in the game, but I guess I'm from a different generation.

Clear penalty for me. Croatia were the better team over 90 minutes but unfortunately that’s football.

Wasn’t the penalty given because his hands were in an ‘unnatural positon’ rather than because there was clear intent?

I agree with Razor and Kramer, if that were for Liverpool I’d want it given every time and if it went against I’d moan but deep down he swats it away. He is a sly player who tried to make it look innocent but it wasn’t.
Just an observation that the Croat equaliser v England would have been disallowed for high boot at the other end because Lovren or Vida would have rolled around clutching their face, Walker was naive on two counts. I’m not an England fan by the way I just don’t believe that goal would have been allowed against any other nation but England. French were miles the better side in the tournament and they had real goal threats, Croatia, Belgium were good footballing sides but lacked the killer edge, Lukaku failed, Mandzukic failed overall, Hazard was decent whilst the best Englishmen were the goalkeeper, holding midfielder and underused subs. In the absence of the Ox both Rashford and RLC were really hard done to at the expense of Deli Ali who was poor and Kane who never moved from midway into the Columbia game onwards.
Great news is it really fills the gap and the prem starting back up is now just around the corner ⚽️ 👍.

It was NEVER a penalty and here is why. In the FIFa rule book regarding handball, the ref has to consider FOUR things when a handball is committed and 3 of which are: Did player handle the ball deliberately or not? Could the player remove his hand/ arm out of the way of the ball? Was the arm in an unatural position?

If you look at the play, Perisic (great player) has to spread his arms to get elevation so no prob. there hence, arm is in an unatural position. Then the French player misses the ball and you can see Perisic's arm moving clearly downwards on his way down so there was NO way he could have taken his hand out of the way (that is flat out impossible at that stage) hence, NO WAY it could have been deliberate hence, NO penalty.

The ref made a mistake here cos if he thinks that Perisic's arm is in an unatural position then he should have asked the players to get their arms chopped off before the game OR ask the players to jump for headers with their arms behind their backs. Dreadful decision that changed the game cos France were dreadful all game, IMO scoreline notwithstanding.

BRover I disagree with your final point about players chopping their arms off because:

1. How would they take throw ins
2. Their shirts wouldn’t fit properly
3. They would have to call in the arm-y reserves

😏.

It's just frustrating that it can go that way and it isn't consistent because we still have the refs making the calls and there interpretation of said event. Like a head butt on Henderson. There where no fouls given at corners for holding today. Kompanys near leg breaker on Jesus.

Very inconsistent but to my surprise actually adds an even deeper level of excitement to the game.
