Morning Ed001.Eden Hazard subtle as a brick mate.

{Ed001's Note - aye well he has said a number of times he wants to go to Real Madrid, it is normal for players these days.}

Ed001 are there any legs to Mancini's comments on Sarri? He claimed Sarri is a racist and a homophobe who wouldn't fit on an English training pitch.

I have no reason to believe Mancini would lie, and I found the quotes where he used homophobic slurs. But surely a racist wouldn't have made Koulibaly and Diawara such big parts of his Napoli team? Has he got a record of discrimination?

{Ed001's Note - he has a record of making racist, sexist and homophobic comments in arguments. Whether or not that makes racist, sexist or homophobic is not for me to decide, but they were certainly offensive and I would expect Chelsea to have clauses in his contract to ensure he does not make similar comments while in charge of them. Hard to know if he discriminates or not.

Some of the most racist people I know would have no problem naming their favourite footballers as black. It always reminds me of a scene in a programme that was shown a few years ago on channel 4 (I think) called 11 men against 11 (or something similar) about football. It was a comedy about corruption and match fixing in footie but showed a few scenes that reminded me of blokes I worked with. Racism makes no sense and it manifests in very odd forms. However I personally do not think he is racist or all that bigoted, I think he is just an old man brought up in a different time, when those kind of terms were normal and acceptable.}

Hopefully you are correct mate, and he's just a bit old fashioned. He will definitely need to steer away from those sort of comments, even in arguments! England is much less forgiving. The media would crucify him.

He's a very good manager, so it'd be a shame if he does blow it for himself in the heat of the moment. But as you say, having the opinions and actually discriminating based on them don't necessarily go hand in hand. Thank you for a really good response on a difficult subject mate.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, it is a difficult subject.}

Ignorance because of age is no excuse ed.

I'm sure there's plenty of people on this site, me included, who remember the 'acceptable' vernacular that was used back in the day that is not now, for good reason. If you can't understand and accept you have to change then you shouldn't be getting jobs in such positions, nor be excused in any way because of changing culture, it's just not acceptable as an excuse.

Not just him, anyone for that matter.

{Ed001's Note - where did I say it was an excuse? I said it was why he did not that it was right or wrong.}

Marshy, I fully agree that it is no excuse. However he has said these things. We can't change that fact. He has also been given a job in England. We can't change that fact either.

All we can do is judge his previous actions and hope they were a result of a lack education from a different time, rather than him being an actual racist/ homophobe. Surely you also hope he can/ has changed? Nobody is saying what He's done Is acceptable or that he isn't a controversial appointment. I wouldn't have brought it up if I wasn't concerned.
