Some interesting stats on Shaqiri on sky sports website. Apparently he covered more distance per game than our front 3 on average per game last season (9.6km) but made significantly fewer sprints than them. That looks to me like the effort levels are there and with our style of play compared to Stokes his sprint stats would be considerably higher this season. I wasn't too keen on us first signing him but now he is here I'm actually a little excited about it.

{Ed002's Note - How is that interesting or relevant? It means perhaps Stoke didn't have the ball and he was running around after it.}

I think it’s that notion that he was running round after the ball that is the key bit ed. He has been accused of being lazy and not working hard enough and of having a poor attitude. If he was indeed chasing the back all when stoke were out of possession, that might allay a few people’s concerns.

{Ed001's Note - none of that means anything, the fact that he makes less sprints is suggestive of less effort, the distance covered could mean he walks the length of the pitch up and down with no intention of getting involved. I wish people would drop these meaningless stats, they show absolutely nothing. He should cover more distance as he was playing the most games for them. Most of their attackers were in and out of the side, so how are they going to cover much distance on the bench?}

Interesting because we're told in profile form that he just stands with his hands on his hips.

That stat suggests otherwise.

Meaning we haven't signed as much as a premadona as we have been lead to believe. He does actually work hard. Just in a poor unsucceful team.

In ours with everyone running and pressing his stats will look much better.

LOL.

It was a comparison to our front 3 I think ed, not to stokes other players. I take your point about the sprints though.

{Ed001's Note - it is irrelevant as it shows nothing as the two sides played completely different styles of football.}

Well I think it's relevant (If true) because it at least shows that he was putting the effort in to win the ball back which considering some people were calling him lazy is quite interesting.

{Ed001's Note - no it doesn't. Where do those stats say that? That was the whole point, you could interpret them anyway you want, but there is nothing that actually tells you that there. It simply says he covered more distance. As he was playing for Stoke and their passing was terrible, a lot of that distance could have been added on due to loose passes. Where our front 3 would get the ball delivered to them, he might have to move a couple of yards to collect it etc. I can suggest a number of other reasons for that as well. However I am bored of this idiocy by people who are not able to understand statistical analysis and should not be trying to pretend they do. Shakira is here now and it is what she does in our team that matters now.}

Statistically I have the hairiest chest in my household.

I mean I live with my Mrs and 1 year old son, but clearly I have abnormally high testosterone levels. The stats don't lie.

Apologies for putting a comment on the group. I'll go back to just reading from now on.

{Ed002's Note - Sure, if that is what you want.}

He covers more distance than OUR front 3 so he averaged over the whole season against our players who played every game and not from the bench bobby mane and mo. He is similar to Sanchez for me in his work rate while he was at Arsenal he works until he sees none of his oaf team mates are and then throws a fit and stops and that’s the bit most people pick up on the sulk afterwards. I’m not against signing him as you can probably tell from this post. I think everyone moans we’ve won nothing under klopp etc and says there’s no progress until we do but then they want to rely on untried kids mixed with poor squad players to win the cups adding players like Shaqiri will give us a far better chance in those cups. Personally I couldn’t care less if we don’t win a cup but finish in the CL places but other people want to use it as a stick to beat klopp with so I can see why he’s beefing up the squad with the kind of quality the other top clubs already have on their bench.

Great to see your positivity towards our newest signing Ed, big smile mate it might not all be doom and gloom 😃.

{Ed001's Note - just glad she didn't bring that idiot hubby of hers with her. Just so long as she doesn't sing all's good.}

By a distance Morgy. He was born with more hair than me 😂

Jezza it was just banter mate. Sorry if my comment upset you.

The stats are all good Jayden, but can he do it on a cold rainy night in stoke.

Ed01 was actually very fair in his player profile of shaqiri. Most of the profile was praising shaqiri's talent.

And agreed jayden, I am weirdly excited about it I have to admit. I didn't expect to feel like this but then again I am always excited about lfc signing attacking players.

Thinking about it, if you're an attacking player, especially a winger, in a poor team that spends a lot of time defending you are going to cover a lot of ground, trying to offer an outlet and then running back behind the ball when the said poor team lose the ball.

I like stats. They help people who don't really understand the game understand it less.

Do you guys remember Lallana's first season with us? How he was clocking the most miles run per game (even more than Milner)? And how he was being slated for being a headless chicken? Just a point to demonstrate how dangerous it is to take one statistic and use it to describe a player's entire game.
