I thought I'd ask a question to the rest of the posters that are outside of the US. I'm not sure if this is true, but it is my understanding that the Prem games have different announcers and analysts in the US than elsewhere. I'm curious if others know the announcers and analysts and what their opinions are.

The studio analysts tend to be Robbie Mustoe and Robbie Earle. I actually think they are quite good. The announcer for the feature game every week is Arloe White, who I also like. He is usually joined by Lee Dixon and Graeme Le Saux.

I will say, my favorite game announcer is Derek Rae. Champions league matches were pretty much the only ones I could see as a kid, and we only got 1 a week. He was one of the first game announcers I remember and remains my favorite.

I'm just curious if you all have opinions of the ones mentioned here, or other announcers I should listen for. Thanks.

{Ed0333's Note - hey dbav how on earth you can say the two Robbie’s are quite good amazes me. In fact I’m sending a team of doctors round right now to test your cognitive capacity. Robbie Earle was only half way decent when NBC did a switcheroo and bought Dixon into the studio and Earle as co-commentator it worked far better. No seriously mate I’m glad you made this point NBC Premier League coverage has been my bug beat for years. It’s F****N awful. Dixon is a dodo with limited insight. Le Saux is a twat with the charisma of a smelly sock, Robbie Mustoe needs putting out to pasture. However I must say they have three excellent employees Rebecca Lowe (I’d give her the best 3 seconds of her life which would include foreplay) she is a stellar presenter, knows her craft expertly, a consummate professional, funny and needs a medal for putting up with the Two Robbie’s every week. As you mentioned Arlo White who is informed, passionate and engaging and an honorable mention has to go out to Kyle Martino whose tactical insights in the studio regularly make Lee Dixon, Graeme Le Saux et al look stupid. I e mail NBC every month about improvements they can make to their premier league coverage, ive offered my services for free but no joy. Let’s hope this season they make a positive difference. Knowing my luck they’ll hire Ian Wright. Thanks for the question Dbav and sorry for my diatribe

I like the NBC team. Certainly beats listening to Michael Owen.

Also, I would have to think that anything is better than listening to Lalas during the World Cup. He sets the bar really low for everyone else, haha.

Agreed on Lalas dbav. The fox team is poor.

Haha, thanks Ed. I suppose I just like that the English commentators can string together complete sentences. That usually doesn't happen with American commentators.

I very much agree regarding Rebecca Lowe. Typically, we only see "sideline reporters" here that are reading scripts. So she is a breath of fresh air.

Which commentators do you prefer?

{Ed0333's Note - English or American mate? I like Martino when he’s calling a game and Arlo White. My all time favorites have to be Brian Moore and Clive Tydsley. Moore because he was an icon he probably wasn’t that good at commentating or presenting but he was such a thoroughly likeable chap like your dad or favorite uncle. And I absolutely love Tydsley he evokes passion and drama in his commentating. He quotes abstract literature in his commentary but not in a condescending way.

I watch quite a few la liga games on bein sports and there’s a terrible Geordie on there but it gets quite comical. For me ITV is the worst coverage of football ever. Especially this World Cup I appreciate they were working for a British audience but Dixon and Wright were so biased without any neutral and intelligent comments about any of the games. And for the player he was I find Glenn Hoddle very hard to listen to in commentary. Hate to admit it but Gary Neville is about the best pundit out there.

Spot on, OP and Ed. The NBC crew is quite good and love Rebecca Lowe cos she just knows her stuff and is quite witty. I agree with you on the Mustoe/ Dixon tip. They are not up to the job and need to go esp. Mustoe. Kyle Martino (who I watched play a lot in MLS) was a pretty good player and has become a very good pundit who recognizes nuance in the subjects he opines on. All in all, NBCSN PL coverage is very good and I miss watching them as I moved from the States to Belgium (Brussels) last June.
