In an interview after the game yesterday Lovren said that people should recognise that he is one of the best centre backs in the world.

Bold statement but fair play and hopefully he brings that self belief into next season.

Lovrens had a good tournament, but as my nan use to say, self praise is no praise.

Lovren needs to just play his game and stop talking. I know there was an emotional rush and heaven knows the pressure he had to play with going against his nemesis Kane and he bossed him all game long. Top man, great CB, IMO.

I was going to mention this, I can see why he wants to prove his critics wrong as he has always been a good player that gets unecessary stick, the problem with it is he will now get stick from the morons on social media for saying it. I just think like all players he should just ignore the detractors and let his football do the talking.

Is he wrong? In the space of 2 months He's playing in the two biggest games in world football for a massive underdog. He is one of the best in the world. There are 7 billion people and he is in the top 5 right sided centre backs in the Premier League, which is in the top 5 leagues in the world!

One bad game against Spurs whilst his head wasn't right (owed to being the victim of armed robbery) does not a player make. Aside from Alderweireld and Azpilicueta there isn't a better right sided centre back in the Prem for me. Kompany if he stayed fit for longer than half an hour would be ahead of him too I guess.

Who else? Smalling? Mustafi? Keane? Tarkowski? Not for me. Lovren is under rated and I'm glad he is showing a bit of arrogance and belief because confidence is all He's ever lacked. Ronaldo, Kane and Messi are apparently the 3 best goalscorers in the world and Lovren has them all in his pocket in the space of 2 months. You might be able to add Griezmann in a few days. Sadly, Mbappe will probably destroy Vida and Strnic down the opposite side because they struggled to cope with Sterling.

One of the best in the world, hhhmmm. Probably on the rung one lower than that, when on his game. The thing is he has way too many off days when he is barely above average.

Embarrassing statement, glad I missed it.

Sorry. I love lovren, the goal against dortmund. I always stick up for him, we don't need a new centre back, we have dl. But that's embarrassing. In truth they had an easy draw too. Probably easier than ours or at least as easy. He is not one of the best in the world.

Not top 5
Not top 10
Not top 20
He is in the top 50.

Prince Hendo, if I was in the top 100 in the world at my job I would hope I'd be considered one of the best in the world!

Can you name 100 better centre backs than Lovren? He's not declared himself world class, just displayed he has belief that he belongs at the top end of the game. He does belong there in my opinion!

Ed1,do you see lovren n van dijk forming cb partnership for a long time at liv? And in your opinion based on their performance before, can they become world class cb partnership in the future?

{Ed001's Note - I expect Klopp to bring in someone to challenge them, next season, but yes, I think Lovren has built a very good partnership with VVD that works well. It could last for a few years.

Not sure about world class, depends on how you judge it.}

Well for me as much as I hate to say it, I would say that vidic n ferdinand in their prime as an example is world class cb partnership. n I think there is nesta n maldini at milan, puyol n pique at barca. do you ever see them reaching that kind of level?

World class is a term used too easily these days. To be world class I personally believe a player has to show consistant quality over a number of years as well as individually make key contributions to campaigns and trophies ie Thuram, puyol, cannavaro, hansen etc

I wouldn't even mention Lovren in the same breadth of those that were trully world class.

If they reach that level any time soon, we'll be talking about a few league titles in 5 years time!

Lovren - the fans favourite. Keep performing the way you are son and you can be as arrogant as you like. I’m thinking more Zatan Ibrahimovic than David Bentley (remember him? ) here.

I love dejan mk, I'm glad he is 1st choice for rcb but he isn't one of the best in the world. Just because they reached the final without playing 1 top team bar a poor argentina and an average England.

Virgil is a world class cb, dejan isn't on his level. Remember our defence before big virgil turned up? We were hopeless. It wasn't one man's fault but he was the senior defender in the line and he made a lot of mistakes. If he can cut out those mistakes he still has 4/ 5 years to become a world class cb. I think he could but I wouldn't bet on it.

And to say it live on camera is a bit cringy for me. I understand he is pumped up after a great performance.

PH, VVD is yet to prove what Lovren has proven so far on the biggest stage in football, the WC where he will be in the final, so how can he be world class and Lovren is not? That makes no logical sense. Neither are world class esp. NOT VVD yet even tho he has all the tools to be world class, just like Lovren has and is showing it. VVD will have to up his game to reach Lovs' level at the moment.
