By the way, I'm not suggesting this because I think he's the answer for us (I don't), or that we don't need an upgrade (we do), or even that I don't think the abuse of him is vile (I do), but mainly because I'm bored of all of the posts attacking him!

Que Sarah, Sarah (as I used to say to an old girlfriend! ), let's let it rest for a while at least.

:)

Well said Zed.

Good one, Zed. For me, I just saw this error as a "setback" in the recovery process cos like recovering from anything, these things can happen. As for anyone thinking that he will NOT make mistakes anymore this year, they are gravely mistaken. GK's are human and will make mistakes, fact. Even "Mr Perfect" DDG made 4 mistakes that I counted (worst GK at the WC, IMO) last season so if he can't be exempted from them, then what chance does a recovering Karius have? What I am hoping is that he gets some good games under his belt and when a mistake does happen cos it will, majority of us can rally around him then. Here's to hoping.

Yes DDG does make mistakes, as does every keeper but does Karius make the great saves these keepers do and earn the team points that the might not get? Have you seen some of the great saves in the World Cup, do you honestly believe Karius can do this? Has he ever done it?

Ps I'm all for an amnesty, honest!

An old mate of mine ("back in the day") 's dad used to be a session musician in the 60's playing the Congo's, well there's footage of him at the back of the stage playing when the Rolling Stones did their Hyde park concert, but had unfortunately passed away by the time I knew his son. Anyway, he had a phrase he used to use that got picked up on by a relatively famous musician in a reasonably famous band at the time, "Ob la di, ob-la-da, life goes on, bra". We all want Liverpool do be successful and to be competitive with the best, but whatever happens, life will go on regardless. So much negativity (and worse), at the end of the day achieves nothing, except more, negativity. Of course people are entitled, even obligated, to share their opinions on whatever topic they feel is important, but once the point (in a reasonably respectful way) has been made, going on and on about it is pointless, move on, life's too short.

{Ed002's Note - Sounds like Rebop Kwaku Baah. Great story.}

Irish, The comparison between Karius and DDG in terms of ability is quite disingenuous and dishonest. Fact: Karius is not as good as DDG. You happy? Good. Now that we have cleared that up, on to the real debate. I posted that DDG makes mistakes. Karius also makes mistakes. Both things are correct as two things can be correct at the same time. Secondly, You ask if Karius can make consistent saves like DDG? Well, depends on which DDG you speak of.

If it was the DDG of his first two years at Utd were he was so poor that Rio Ferdinand once said that FErgie came to get the snr players' opinion on if he should start DDG or the mighty Tomasz Krusczak (yeah, that guy) then YES, I see it cos Karius did so vs Newcastle, Twice vs WH, once vs Hudd, twice vs Spurs and save a pen and oh, most clean sheets in the CL, all things DDG that era could and did NOT do (check the the clips of these games if you like) . Does that answer your question?

Now if it is the DDG of today then NO, Karius has not shown he can NOT do that on a consistent basis. Could it be that it is cos he is still learning the game in the PL and did not have the chance to be the full time starter like DDG was and not in and out (Klopp's fault, IMO)? I don't know. Either way not saying he is the answer BUT, if he is the guy we go with as it seems likely, we need to get behind him cos he is still in he recovery process and setbacks like vs Tranmere will happen. Great convo tho, Irish.

Brover. With respect. If you don't want to compare Karius with DDG then don't bring him up in your post. DDG was clearly a very talented keeper when he came to United and now is probably the best in the world. Can you see the talent in Karius? I can't, honestly. I never seen it before he signed and nothing he has done has changed my mind remotely. It is one thing to reel off saves that I call standard goalkeeping saves but that was not my question. So I will ask again, has Karius ever made a save that in all honesty he had no right to make, the difference that top keepers make to club or even country? The answer for me is no. He doesn't have it in his skill set. For me he is punching above his weight at LFC and can't take the pressure of playing for a big club. I think Klopp will buy another keeper and the new keeper will be in nets come the start of the season and all this will be put to bed.
