Dear Ed001,

Despite once again being terrific for England this campaign, Henderson always seems to be bashed with a lot of fans claiming he's been rubbish etc, when even the pundits who normally unrightfully bash him have supported him this world cup.

Would you think there is a reason people are so quick to jump on his back or are fans just so fickle and wish to have a scapegoat who they can criticize with ease.

{Ed001's Note - it is a number of factors, the desire to have a scapegoat being the main one. There is the fact he runs in an unusual way, which people don't like as it is different. The other problem is that the most important things he does are away from the ball and require a deeper understanding of the game to spot.}

Thanks for the respond Ed001!

It's a shame really as most player spend more time off the ball than with it, so it's important to be effective there as well.

{Ed001's Note - that was one of the things Cruyff stressed, that it is what you do without the ball that can make the difference.}

People who only see the highlights will miss hendo's game. He doesn't score many goals although he is involved in many.

Since our run in ucl and now world cup, people are seeing his game and he's been brilliantly. Also, he is still getting better and better.

Thought he was excellent against Sweden, performing that role on his own. At one point in the second half he just seemed to be everywhere on the pitch. Making tackles, interceptions, showing for the ball and then completing a pass. Gives me great hope for the coming season that he'll maintain his recent levels and put his injuries behind him.

Even when not fully fit we missed him when he was out or rested last season. Its because he does not over complicate things and try to take on 5 men when its not necessary and the flashy stuff always catches the eye whether its effective or not. He will just keep the ball moving and the opposition chasing. j

I think he has also gotten better at keeping his powder dry so he can last a full match by using his positioning rather than balls out defending, much like hamman used to.

This talk about phasing him out next season is premature i think.

Quote from Ed01 from a thread discussing Hendo a while ago, "Those bashing Hnederson lack the football intelligence or intellect to discuss the issue" or something like that. PRICELESS!

As for Hendo's role for us next season, he will be used as always. Will play when fit and/ or when needed cos Klopp rotates his players a lot as we have seen. As for the whole "phased out" thingy, Ed01 has addressed that already, saying that Hendo was having issues with training and playing consistently cos his body could not handle it for a while hence, the club was looking to "phase him out" on a couple of seasons.

But now that he is playing and training well for England, his body can indeed take the physical workload that such exertions bring so we shall see. People are reading way too much into the phrase "phased out". It is not what many think it to be.

{Ed001's Note - actually what I had said was they were going to take a look at his fitness over the course of the season to see if he would need to be replaced. It was about monitoring his fitness during the season to see if his legs would hold up. They are still going strong weeks after most of the rest went on their holidays. I think that answered any questions about him personally.}

Do you worry about Hendo having a long world cup ed01? I agree he has looked immense. He must have played more games than anyone this season with ucl and world cup though. Do you think he/ we will suffer for it next season? I know fab is seen as a can replacement but do you think hendo's long season helped klopp make the decision on fab.

{Ed001's Note - depends on how long a break he has. There is no reason why he has to be rushed back with the additions made this summer, so he should be fine.}

Sorry, Ed. I knew as I was posting that I would not get everything right regarding your stance on Hendo.

{Ed001's Note - it's fine gave me a chance to point out that I never said he would be phased out, as people seem to think. Only that his fitness was to be monitored to see if we would need to.}

Who's being bashing Hendo this world cup? As far I've seen he's been universally praised.

PR, the bashing was during the season.

The social media keyboard warriors are quick to jump on his back. I'd like to think they are a minority of people but unfortunately in this day and age they aren't a minority.
