Think Wilson has a place in the squad this season Ed? Seem to ask this question before the new season every year 😆.

{Ed001's Note - like every season it will depend on how he gets on during pre-season.}

From what I remember Ed, you said Klopp’s reservation was his lack of tracking back/ defensive effort (apologies if not accurate? ) .

What do you think of him ability wise? He looks to a classy player on the ball and can score goals.

I really hope the lad knuckles down an earns a spot for us this year as a rotation option.

{Ed001's Note - you are correct. The lad has plenty of ability, very skilful and can score goals.}

I think it's his time to shine. The experience he got with hull will stand to him.

Having never played professionally, i don't understand why some players find it difficult to track back or play a different role when their team is not with the ball.

Yeah similar to how Klopp has absolved Salah of some of his tracking back duties in order to stay up front on the last defender, I think that's a role Wilson can perform. I'm hoping to see him score so many goals in the next few games that he forces Klopp to consider him a viable backup option in that Salah role.

My preference is to have Wilson and Moses Simon as backup to Salah and Mane. With Shaqiri nowhere to be seen.

ED1 makes the most important point about Wilson, he scores goals which everyone says is the hardest and most important part of being a footballer. Let's hope he has a great pre-season, gets himself a squad number and bangs in a few for us this season. plus wouldn't it be great to see one of the Academy kids who was considered to be the next big thing to actually become the next big thing!

JM, Wilson will have to earn that right to do that just like Salah did cos Salah was not doing that when he first arrived. He earned the right to do that. Also, Salah did (and still does) a tonne of tracking back in games as well, something Wilson per Ed01, needs to improve drastically amongst other things like finding space in tight areas etc. Whether he can perform that role is still to be seen, clearly.

But I do agree with you that I would stay well clear of Lazy Boy Shaq and get in Moses Simon who tho is raw, can do more than a job for us if we can harness his Mane-like potential.
