Namaste Eds and the fellow Reds,
How'd you rate Klopp’s Substitutions esp in games where we are ahead. I have noticed more often than not they make no impact, in fact, at times become counter productive.
if that is so, Is it down to in-game management or lack of quality on the bench or both?
Long time reader, first time poster!

{Ed001's Note - both imo. Hopefully that will be one good thing to come from Buvac leaving, as he was his main input on subs.}

Thanks Ed001 for your valuable insight!

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate. It is a problem with Klopp, though I have often wondered if a piece of it is that he is always talking it over with Buvac for ten min.}

I hope the substitution issues improve greatly. I could never understand why in the last 5 minutes of matches we kept changing the back 4. We lost quite a few points because of these changes.

Could it have been Buvac pushing for the substitutions and Klopp overthinking it or do you feel it was a Buvac issue?

Yeah I never took much notice at Dortmund so can't compare but they are awful here.

I really think it is just him being to trusting. He loves his players.

But there just no good from 84 minutes.

Also he needs to learn to give due rest. Obviously not Salah in the champions league semi final.

But it games where we are 3-0 up to Bournemouth he can bring some of the boys off around he 70th instead of the 85th.

I think we struggle when an extra defender is brought on. it gives the opposing team the impetus to send more players forward.

Good post.

Klopp often brings on a third centre back if trent is playing. If gomez is at Rb then he becomes the third Cb. We always seemed to concede after this change in tactic. I don't know why but when we decide to sit off and invite pressure we get too deep. I think the lads invite it as they believe they can nick the ball and score on the counter but it's s dangerous game.

Thing is, we always remember it if we concede but when it works we focus on the attackers who won us the game. It's exciting even if it is bad for blood pressure.

I hate that back 5 sub when we invite pressure like that. Never ever works and we always concede a massive chance.

If we are playing a 4-3-3, the first move should be taking an attacking midfielder off for the likes of hendo or Fabinho - hopefully now we have more options there, the change will be easier to make. At the end of the season with Milnr hendo and wijnaldum basically being the only choice, there was no real option to change one who was tired.
Also, with no real pace on the bench to replace mane or Salah, we had less threat on the counter if they were tired - hopefully a pacey option on the bench will also encourage earlier subs.

Yeah He needs to start some like for like not systems changes.

If the team were playing are chasing to get back into it then throw another attacker on and punish them.

Maybe the boys go at it so hard for 70 minutes and tire. I agree with kloppsboss, go for the kill when teams are pushing us.

i think a lot has to do with the strength of the bench, players tire and we need to replace them at times but they are never as good as what we have on the field. hopefully that will change next season.
