For me, Lovs is a very good CB. He has ALL the tools you need to be a top CB in terms of skill set, pace, aerial ability, passing ability (long or short) and of course, physical and mental toughness due to his upbringing and experience as a refugee which has forged a strong and steely character.

His ONLY prob. is what is between his ears. When he is having a good spell, all these qualities come to the fore, no question. When he is having a stinker, his "head" issues come to the fore and overshadow all his ability hence, he overthinks things which then lead to rash decision-making.

What we have seen is that when VVD has been next to him, he is more assured, calmer and just focuses on his job of defending, something he is very good at. If he can work on his "head" issues, consistency will come with that. As for his mistakes, I think people just over-react and jump all over him cos frankly, mistakes happen. Provided he has 8 good games out of 10, I'm good with him having one average game here and one bad game there. As for Wednesday vs England, we'll see what happens cos to me, he has been the best CB at the WC.

I don’t think he’s strong or aggressive enough for the PL and gets bullied by the bigger centre forwards. That being said without the brain farts he’s still a good defender. I agree he’s improved massively with VVD alongside him and it would be difficult and expensive to improve on him. Every player in the world has weaknesses.
