My only regret is that If England win I would’ve really loved to see Jordan Henderson lift the trophy as captain Perhaps if it wasn’t for his injuries he’d still be captain.

He should be captain. Kane certainly shouldn't be. Hendo battles and demands more of everyon. Leads by example and does all the hard unselfish dirty work. Kane just doesn't.

Irishman here and i completely agree kane scores goals but all ye can see is hendo shouting and organising. Honestly if england win it and kane doesn't lift it hand in hand with him i would be annoyed cos he is your captain full stop.

I think Hendo is the better captain, no doubt but I think kane is more respected by the players. Not how I feel but its what I think is going on.

Everyone is getting carried away, me included but remember, we still haven't played anyone top. That'll change now and we're England who always fall when they come up against a real team. I think we will go out to Croatia. I hope not.

Hendo is by and far the captain.

Goals don't make a captain.

How can you compare that as a defining quality when strikers (those who take the penalties aswel) have a clear better opportunity.

Kanes like a mouse. Apart from whinging for handball and such. Good player but been anonymous for 2 games. Got lucky against Panama and had a few pens. Hopefully he comes into his own against Croatia but not captain material.

That Everton player should be captain bluey. Is your clown outfit aiming for top 10 next season?

Henderson is the leader in the England team, its obvious, what's so funny about that?

Doesn't it speak volumes about Hendo though ey? Not captaining the side but still pushing on as a Captain should.
Not bad for someone who gets slated by club and country ey. Sideways passing and being slow must be the way forward!

Not noticed either of those things in Hendo’s play lately. Which matches were you watching? The slow useless passenger has been Sterling.

I think that it’s been a blessing switching the captaincy from Hendo. Fans, wrongly, look at a captain as a player that does highlight reel moments so if the captains a keeper it’s world saves, a defender is last ditch tackles, and midfielder/ striker is goals.
Taking the captaincy of Hendo means he can just concentrate on his game with far less spotlight and he is finally getting plaudits without the English fan base tearing him to spreads because he doesn’t score enough.

That's a very accurate assessment WYred. I read an interesting article recently about the way Southgate has really taken on board the psychological aspects of the game, it's not a coincidence that England won their first WC penalty shooutout. Maybe Southgate saw Kane as less liable to be weighed down by the title of captain, therefore taking that little bit of pressure off Henderson knowing full well that he'll be the one bossing the side anyway.
I've gained a lot of respect for Southgate over this WC, he's a clever and very dignified fella.

Brianw8686, Harry Kane is all for Harry Kane as claiming his teammates goal proved. He won't be lifting it hand in hand with anyone if England should win it.

If he's team captain then it's his to lift anyway. I don't see the issue with that.

Brilliant explanation, WyRED. Totally, spot on.
