Well said mate, while I’m wary of statistics, it certainly makes good reading.

Were clutching. Good read mate but save your breath we'll have a new number 1 in a few weeks. There's no way Salah signs a new deal if progression isn't happening.

So Fabinho and Keita are a backwards step?!

Good article mate. My worry is how he can handle if he makes a mistake, the pressure from the supporters ( even ours) could mentally break him.

LFC8 - Salah signed a new deal just 5 days ago. Progression isn't necessarily getting in a new no 1 keeper. It could as well be Karius building upon his good form from last season, put his two howlers past him and proving a lot of people wrong.

Thanks for the read Reid. Although statistics can be rather vague, I definitely agree that we should get behind the lad and support him. I for one hope he's our no 1 after the transfer market closes. Would be nice to see a full season with him in goal - I really believe he's done enough to deserve that.

Thanks for the positive comments everyone. Just thought I'd throw my 10 cents in with a few facts on him, rather than sitting back while people abuse the poor lad. It's beyond a joke the treatment he's had from his own supposed "supporters".

It's no suprise the lads had a hard time where people turned on him right at the start of his career, prompting Klopp to take him out and the starting lineup and let butterfingers take reign between the posts.

If we can't get better than Karius or someone to challenge him for the number one jersey then let's put our faith within him.

Cracking article Reid.

LiverpoolFC8, so you actually think Salah signed his deal with Karius/ GK issue in mind? YIKES! That was hilarious. Ever tried stand up comedy? You would be a real hoot at the clubs. Players are paid to play, period. They are not paid to make player personnel decisions and btw, we got to a CL final with Karius in goal with the best clean sheet record in the competition, hate it or love it. Also, we ARE improving the squad so again, what progression are you not seeing or in this case, choosing not to see?

As for the article, I ove it, Reid. Top man. The stats are what they are and you do a good job of putting them in context. Here is my take. Karius came into the team alongside VVD and we DEO improved, pure and simple. They were not the only ones who improved us overall. Klopp had already made us hard to penetrate since the Spurs game by playing Gomez at RB and tweaking the systyem where we are a 4-3-3 when we attack and a 3-4-3 when we defend with Gomez being a RCB and Hendo as the pivot. Also, our pressing game and off-the-ball work when we lose it, improved a lot esp. when Ox was in the team cos we knew he could put a shift in alongside Milner and Hendo. All these led to Karius being protected and him him just focusing on his job and YES, he bailed us out in several games with brilliant saves vs Newcastle, Hudd, WH (twice), B'mouth and Spurs where he saved a penalty that kept us from losing.

Listen Kiev may have happened BUT the stats are what they are: 10 clean sheets in 19 games is nothing to sneeze at and it is THAT team and THAT Karius we need to see next season. I am prepared for him to make mistakes cos this WC has shown that NO GK regardless of standing, is immunned to them. It is how he bounces back that will be key and how he is supported as well. The two errors he committed in Kiev (YES, while concussed) should NOT be allowed to undo all the work he and the team had done till that moment. Up Karius! Up Da Pool!

Nice one Reid. A good Reid!

Karius was getting better and better. That is progression. He was going in the right direction and no one can dispute that. The hope is, from me, that he continues to get better. We have a decent keeper in Karius. A young man. In a few years he could be a truly excellent keeper.

I've said it before, I don't see a professional outfit like liverpool dropping a big asset for one bad game.

I don't remember many going in last season that I thought "Karius should've saved that"

Vvd was the big reason our defence was good last season.

I'm really struggling with this argument because there's a suggestion that if you think we need a new keeper we're not supporting Karius, that is not what it means. It means we've assessed the guy's abilities, over two years, and believe we should be trying to get someone better to improve.

I can't argue with any of the stats you mentioned but I can add context. The improvement in our defence didn't start when Karius came in, nor did it start with the purchase of VVD. It started after the Spurs game.

In the 11 games Migs started after that game we conceded 8 goals in 11 games. If you exclude the horror show that was the arsenal game it was just 5 in 10, a superb record.

I believe that, just like Migs, Karius was the beneficiary of team improvements. If we keep Karius as no 1 he will probably be ok but we will still have a keeper who doesn't command his box and struggles when under pressure. To be as good as we want to be I think we need someone more reliable. I don't think that is unfair, unreasonable or is disrespectful to Karius.
