Just to add to what ed is saying about buying better than what you have and then the first teamers become the bench. You are absolutely spot on. It's the proper way to work.

But. I think we find ourselves in a wierd predicament with our front 3. Who is better than thenm, that we can sign, who's not going to cost an absolute bomb?

{Ed001's Note - so buy where we can improve then.}

All I really care about is replacing Mignolet, and replacing Coutinho.

Aside from that I Don't want depth. I just want a keeper fit to compete for the starting line up, an attacking midfielder good enough to start regularly so Klopp has options.

I don't want players happy to sit on the bench. I want players who will come in and size up Karius/ Chamberlain and think "i'm better than you and i'll prove it". Even if the other players raises their game and then keeps the newbie on the bench, at least we'll have some healthy competition!

Shaqiri won't look at any of our forwards and fancy his chances. He'll just be hoping they get injured or fatigued. So we might as well give the place to a young and fearless youth player who is naive enough to believe he can be better than Salah. Then who knows; maybe they will be one day 🤞.

I trust in klopp doing a fantastic job transfer market is getting hard these days players going for far to much money 💰 ynwa.

I suppose its a balancing act in trying to give enough chances to the youth coming through while also making sure we have enough experience in the squad. Im all for giving the young players a chance but ill stick with that stance for the season whereas a lot of the people using the Shaquiri link to argue that Wilson or Woodburn are better options will be the first people in December or January if we get a few injuries to big players, to say how naive Klopp was to put his faith in kids while City and Utd can bring experienced internationals in to freshen their team.

So you don't believe we require a bit more cover for the front 3 for rest, Cup games and injury?

You look at our bench in the champions league final and tell me it wouldn't of been handy to have shaqiri there.

I would also not like to have our academy players who are only 19/ 22 like Wilson and such sitting most of the season watch the front 3 destroy teams.

Also do people think this signals the end of our transfer business because in pretty certain it doesn't.

We also have keita who can easily replace coutinho if we start hendo and fabinho behind him. He offers everything coutinho did.

We also have Milner and the ox for that space.

Lastly we did make a champions league final without keita and fabinho and without replacing the messiah in coutinho.

{Ed001's Note - we have Origi who is back, Wilson who is back. I would pick either over Shaqiri anyway, so I fail to see the issue.}

Buy where we can improve - like goalkeeper.

Those saying Klopp should wait for his preferred option should remember that Salah was “4th” of preferred options.

And VVD and Keita were 1st.

If anything we have too much depth, and not enough quality. Mignolet, Ward, Clyne, Gomez, Matip, Klavan, Moreno, Milner, Lallana, Gini, Ox, Markovic, Origi, Ings, Sturridge and Solanke all sit outside of our starting XI currently but would be considered first team playees. How many of them would you honestly keep? Don't want anybody to actually answer with names. Just think about where buying for depth has gotten us.

Wilson has zero prem experience. Sitting around waiting for an opportunity is detrimental to his development because let's be real mo, mane and bobby stay fit just how many games will they not start.

Also I don't think it's a Wilson vs shaqiri situation

Maybe klopp wants pleanty of cover. I would hardly say we our swimming in riches with having origi, Wilson and shaqiri all on the bench either. It's hardly mind breaking stuf or klopp wants Wilson to have a full year of playing and would rather have shaqiri to use sparingly so Wilson can keep developing.

{Ed001's Note - it clearly is a Wilson v Shaqiri thing.}

I think the issue we have with buying someone like Shaquiri is that he isn’t really cover for our front three because if Mane or Salah can’t play or get injured we would need to change our game completely because he isn’t a like for like replacement. This is partly why we lost our shape in the cl final because not only did we lose Salah we also had to change both manes and Firmino s position. For me if we buy cover it should be a player with similar attributes who may not be quite at that level yet - so for example an uk and coming youngster.

{Ed002's Note - Maybe sell Wilson to buy this up and coming youngster?}

Brilliant post, Ed. I would rather give Wilson and Origi a go than buy a lazy, poor attitude, overrated Shaquiri. As for the GK issue, Klopp will make his decision and whatever it is, we should support him and even if he keeps Karius, we should support him and those who have a prob doing that should get with the program and get over themselves esp. those who have a personal vendetta against him or never wanted to see the boy succeed here just so they could say they were right. Just my opinion.

Maybe klopp wants Wilson to have a year on loan before he comes into the first team set up and to cover that we are signing shaqiri so Wilson doesn't have to miss a year of development waiting for an opportunity to get into the team?

Or maybe just maybe Wilson isn't good enough? As you say not every signing can succeed like Chamberlain or Robertson. Well every academy player doesn't get to be Trent.

A Coutinho replacement is the most important for me. If we do get Fekir, he can cover out wide and (i’m not entirely sure on this) can play as a striker if desperately needed. Being left footed i’m sure Klopp would play him on the right side if Salah needs a rest/ gets injured.
But we also do have Origi back who seems to want to prove a point - Good on him, hopefully he can - and Solanke.
Klopp might also possibly use Origi on the left too, he has the pace and strength to be out wide cutting in on his right.

I disagree mk. We need depth and that showed in the final when all we had were an unfit lallana and unfit is Can. I think many of the players you listed as outside the first 11 did big things for us last season. Gini was massive in city games, milner all though ucl. Klavan looked a different player and is worth keeping as a left footer. Clyne and moreno are nowhere near good enough to be 1st choice at Liverpool but as back up they are fine. Lallana still has a lot to offer and the ox was pure class, I'd have him in the first 11.

It has to be balanced, there is no point doing a brodge and signing 7 average players but our squad is still a little thin. When everyone is fit I think we are fine except maybe a genuine bit of class to provide cover up front. With sturridge and ings likely off and solanke still finding his feet and Origi's apparent regression we perhaps need someone.

We have one of the best cf in the world. There is not many I would swap him with. Was trying to think the other night and I couldn't think of anyone I prefer to firmino.

Keeper and forward and an attacking mid/ winger and ill be well happy.

No id be happy giving Wilson a chance - I said if we were to buy somebody it should be someone with similar attributes. I’d personally move Mane deeper and play him in front of a Keita and Henderson/ Fabinho partnership. Then look to bring somebody in for the left hand side. That’s probably why I’m not in this sort of role.
