Thanks for that Ed001. Never really followed him that closely - only really have time to catch the Liverpool matches, but that description of him makes me think he is very similar to Carragher in a lot of ways - first 5 yards in the head and fallen foul through a lot of his career of being a utility player before settling in defence.

Really rated Jagielka as one of the better CBs in the league in terms of consistency and dedication to the team's cause. Shame age has caught up with him but pretty sure his status as a Toffee legend is already secured. No nonsense defender that we could have done with at the expense of the likes of Skrtel.

Everton had a really decent defence for a while, Jagielka, Baines, Coleman. Would honestly have taken them all if they didn't play for the Toffees.

Oh yeah, Distin was pretty good too (Rafa wanted him I believe) . Can't believe the Toffees had a such a good defense not too long ago (considering the dross they have now) . Not sure how much of it was down to Moyes' defensive tactics but those 4 were as solid defenders u could have got in the BPL.
