Arsenal fan's criticism of Ozil but Admiration of Bergkamp has always baffled me. Demonstrates the influence the media has on public perception.

Even got the brunt of it for Germany's last game, despite regularly creating the best opportunities for his team. Surprised he stayed at Arsenal, would do wonders in Serie A.

{Ed001's Note - he is their version of Jordan Henderson, in that people don't like the way he moves so decide he must be crap.}

Bloody hell Ed you're firing these out quick mate :) .

Great player Ozil, I see him thriving further under Emery. I was surprised when RM sold him to be honest. I think he's the best current Arsenal player.

Thanks for another great read mate.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, still got a lot more to get through. I am hoping to get close to the point where I can just link people to the profile when they ask my opinion on a player.}

I’ m one who has fallen into the trap of thinking he’s lazy and doesn’t care too much. This article makes me think a little more about him as a footballer.

{Ed001's Note - he is far from lazy, he was covering more ground than Sanchez, who everyone was calling a grafter. Ozil is the kind of player Johan Cruyff would have loved.}

It's the medias fault half of the time stone mate they spout nonsense about players without knowing what they're talking about and unfortunately a lot of people take what they say as the truth. Ozil is a gifted player, Arsenal are lucky to have him because imo he could walk into any team in the world.

I watched Arsenal maybe I don't know, 15 games or so last season and every time I saw him play he always put a great shift in but as Ed says, he's become a media target in a negative way, it's quite frustrating really because he deserves praise, he's a brilliant player.

Ozil is one of those players like.

Ozil is like one of those players like Iniesta, Xabi Alonso, Bobbie Firmino, Luka Modric who are capable of making football effortless and supremely easy. As for Ozil not putting a shift in, there are games where he actually plays like he does not care and there are some games I can point to BUT overall, he is a very hardworking player and his talent is just phenomen.

Eamon, what's wrong with Bergkamp?

OK Ed's 001 your a fan of him and I do like him, would he be a good signing for us with our new midfielders in the bag already. Total fantasy I know, but we've bagged the grafters we just need the magician.

{Ed001's Note - I don't think he is what we need.}

He's a great player ed but when Sanchez was tracking back he wasn't only sprinting but he was actually making a contribution.

Ozil just jogs about and strolls. Yes he moves but he doesn't make any defensive contributions which leave his team a man down when adding in the striker in 9 vs 10 which is a big problem.

{Ed001's Note - sorry but you are wrong. That is an outright lie and shows you haven't watched him at all and are just talking utter crap. Try watching him and you will find how stupid that comment is and is pure ignorance.}

Ha. im not disagreeing with Ed001 at all and haven't even read his piece on Ozil. Im more amused how people in general follow other peoples opinions on footballers instead of trusting their own eyes. A few posts above have mentioned how the media spout crap yet when dey do, in their dozens by the way people listen to it and it affects their opinion on that player. For example before Ed001 mentioned his opinion on Ozil 99% of people on here would have agreed with the opinion he was a lazy bugger. Now a lot of the same people, because Ed001 has said he's a good player are now saying he's up their with Iniesta and would get into any team in the world. My two cents on him is that he's a very skillful player but there's many a time when i've seen him be lazy as sin and know that if he played for Liverpool i'd be roaring at the tele!

In this one i must be against you edd and fellas. As you say he is a very cultured, skilful and intelligent midfielder, so in many occasions it is a pleasure to watch him but if he was in my team it would also be a pain to watch him in several games. Perhaps he have covered a lot of ground for his teams and maybe he is most of the time positionally ok, but in my point of view most of the time this is a waste of effort is in the real moment when you need to tackle, to make a hard man-marking or an aggresive press he just doesn't do it, this makes many players to take advantage of this as many just pass nearby him with much less effort than by the side of a player who will not let him get through so easily, this means he is not able to delay many of the other's team attacks. Also I've never seen him block a player on a one-two pass of when a player is running to a space, which again leads to the other team to be able to have a direct attack just by passing through him leaving many times just the RB/ LB against 2 players.

Now Ozil is a top top first touch player, and he usually knows how to move, and he does creates chances which turn on goals as you pointed. But i can't remember many times he takes the ball, dribbles and he himself create a whole chance from his feet, just like Iniesta or david silva do (just to point 2 players with similar abilities and flaws) . He is more a player who takes the ball makes a pass and runs to a space in order to create this kind of chances, so in many games this will be more predictable and easily to mark, if the defense of the other team can block the spaces where he runs. I think this is the thing that makes me be more dissapointed of him, because he will never take a team in his back, just like top top players do. He will depend in many ways of the other players in his team to be effective in creating chances. Arsenal fans loved more likes of Sanchez (ven when Ozil can be far better technically), because he with his attitude created chances, but also inspired the team, while likes of Ozil will be looked as great heartless players.

I will never know if is because of his flaws he himself never be confident enough to take the ball and make something extraordinary (apart from passing) to make his team react to a moment of need, or if it is he really don't want to make that effort, or he believes in his teammates to as a whole make a change, either way i will never be a complete fan of Ozil just because i think he will never lead a team to anything.
