Evening everyone, ed001 I have a question regarding Rhian Brewster? I read a lot a couple days ago that a deal had been agreed and ready to sign, is this still the case and if so why isn't it signed as if yet? My second part to the question is the supposedly playing time he been offered. I believe he was promised a realistic chance if breaking into the first team. I for one don't like this surely a players should be in the first team based upon attitude merit and endeavour rather than I don't want to loose you for a nominal fee so I will promise you game time. If the lad isn't up for it (to which I have no idea by the way) then don't you see this as detrimental to the rest if the squad?
Sorry for rambling on a bit hopefully all gets sorted and Brewster is as good as people make out to be I for one just don't like this promise of game time to appease players.

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea, he might be away on holiday, I don't track the players' movements on GPS sorry.

Yes, I also think it is a mistake. If he has not got the desire and belief to fight for a place then get rid.}

Ed, If Im not mistaken, Im sure its been said before that Klopp has made such promises to other players, namely Grujic and Ward, and then reneged on the promises anyway. Im sure there were a couple of other players too given promises by Klopp that didn't eventuate, if I remember correctly.

{Ed001's Note - Ward wasn't given promises.}

The only agreement on playing time should be:
If you’re fit your performance in training will determine whether you play or not.

I sympathise with young players, they need to play to progress, but that can be on loan. The other issue these young men are influenced by usually more intelligent agents.
I think some players need better education about how to progress. A lot of their development needs to be “self directed”. Some of them think they need to be spoon fed by the clubs, but if you look at some of the best players they directed their own development. Ronaldo still never stops training hard and developing his own game. Henry used to practice moves and skills in his own time perfecting his movement. Harry Kane is another example of someone who looked st his game and analysed where he needs to develop to become successful.

Surely, it works both ways. If Liverpool are not prepared to give Brewster what he asks for, then don't make promises and let him try someplace else. He was prepared to leave.

We, as supporters, would've loved the club to sign youngsters like Mbappe, Pulisic, Ousmane Dembele, etc. when they were 18 years old, but we are always complaining when our youngsters want the same chances in the first team. If we don't want to lose our promising youngsters then we have to play them or let them go. We can't have it both ways.

I would let them go on loan but with a ‘development plan’ devised by the coaching team at Liverpool. Players on loan need to be monitored by our staff to see their degree of progress. Players who engage with the plan - keep them on. Players who can’t be bothered - let them go. 🤝.

I can fully appreciate why young players want promises over playing time before signing for clubs. Many of them know that they can bust their gut in training day in day out but when the chips are down and the manager looks at his bench for someone to make the difference, no matter what happened in training that month or year they are likely to go with the 28 year old veteran with a history of creating late chances and not the 18 year old with 3 first team appearances. The expectation that players are given some indication and assurances that they will get their chance to shine in real games and not just some pre season and 2nd string cup appearances is absolutely fine. They just then need to back it up to make sure that when the younger players are given time to develop on the field, it's them that is chosen.
