Watching England and I must admit ed001, I thought maguire was okay - never really watched him mind. But Jesus Christ he is awful, he wins everything in the air but he's a donkey and has the pace of matip carrying van dijk.

Firmane, Maguire is one reason why England will never get anywhere in football as a whole esp. internationally. As soon as a player is able to pass the ball a bit esp. for a CB, he gets hyped up and after a few "MOTD" highlights, the gets hyped up and before you know it "could be an England call up in the offing".

To me, Maguire has always been a poor defender, a complete liability. I mean, just watch him play. He is slow, has stiff hips, gets turned without the striker even breaking a sweat and frankly lacks positioning. Yes, he can pass the ball out of the back BUT so can Mustafi, Stones, Matip, Otamendi and the list goes on, none of who I would pick over Lovren who not only can pass out the back (with both feet), he can actually defend when on his game. If as a CB, you are able to defend comfortably vs CR7 in wide areas like he did in the CL final, then you are doing something right. Maguire is is awful and LC and England are welcome to him.

Honestly he wouldn't look out of place behind the wheel of a john Deere tractor. Put a bit of straw in house mouth to chew on.
