Nice review mate, i always felt that over the first 5-10 yards (and in his head) he had blistering pace? A true all time great, but for me he will always be below Maradona. now that's a review i'm looking forward to!

{Ed001's Note - he does have incredible acceleration.}

Great little article, Ed001.

How would you rate Messi as one of the all time greatas?

Top 10? Top 5? Top 3? Or dare I say it, the best of all time?

Red Sandman.

{Ed001's Note - certainly not the best. He plays on a bowling green with incredible amounts of protection from officials, so how can he be compared to Maradona, who was dribbling on ploughed fields while people were hacking him at waist height? The game has changed too much for a real comparison to be made.}

Great read ed, I remember watching revista LA liga a while back and they were saying Messi was told to save his legs by the manager.

{Ed001's Note - you can see it in his play, but it is not the Barca way that Cruyff set up. The forwards should press and that is why they failed in Europe, as their system is built around a press and they do not have the defensive solidity needed to play without that press from the front. They need some protection in midfield if they are going to allow forwards to rest off the ball.}

I think a lot of his acceleration is actually due to his incredible ball control, he can beat a man over 5 yards because he doesn't have to worry about where the ball is, it's stuck to his foot or has been knocked the perfect distance past the player for him to chase. He is an excellent player.

Excellent write up Ed. So let's see if we can get Ed to answer the constant question, Messi or Ronaldo?

And to give it a bit of context let’s say they are both in their prime, money is no object and they will be your first pick of a new team not trying to bed into an existing squad. Who would you take?

Cheers in advance.

{Ed001's Note - it really comes down to the way you want to play. For the style of football I would prefer, Messi is the better suited player.}

The Messi vs Ronaldo debate is hard.

Ronaldo is the more complete goalscorer, Messi is the more complete footballer.

I think if I was really pressed for an answer, I'd go for Salah.

To be fair the thing about your messi's, maradona's, ronaldo's (r9) is that they are almost as quick with the ball as they are without and can change direction without seeming to lose control or pace!

Lacks height, but scored a cracking header against the mancs in the champions league final.
Cracking read ed.
