Amid all the talk about the need and available options for a new goalkeeper, the question I keep asking myself, and now all of you, is, what we saw from Loris Karius in Kiev the "usual" from him or was it a one-off "really bad day" that can happen to any goalkeeper? Was Kiev a continuation or indication of the season he has had (especially the second half) or was it an indication of an area he's weak in and needs to be worked on (concentration and mental toughness)?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not an apologist and offering excuses for his performance in Kiev. But at the same time, is it logical to throw his season long performance out the window, and just look at his one really bad night? Again, I'm still mad as hell over his two errors. But are those mistakes worth a new 70-80Mil goalkeeper? Or do we go with Butland as a replacement for Mignolet and work on Karius?

He’s got mistakes in him. I’m sure during the arsenal game I remember a wobble from him where the ball was rolling towards goal and he didn’t seem in control.

{Ed0333's Note - I think Karius has the ability to become a fantastic goalkeeper. In my opinion all he has to do is learn to try and concentrate for a full 90 minutes which is do-able. Both of his mistakes in the final are preventable with him being more alert. Can you imagine a switched on Karius what a keeper we’d have on our hands? His tears and remorse at the end of the final shows me has character and deserves another chance to make amends. We need to show Karius compassion after his monumental F*** up like we did Gerrard when he slipped up against Chelsea. If keeping Karius means we can afford to buy a Fekir or a Dembele then I’m bang up for it.

If this had been away to stoke we would be over it by now. BUT this was the biggest game in our recent history and the fact is if our man between the sticks who is supposed to sure up our defence has a melter then how can he be trusted. Its simple fact now that in the big games he will crumble because in the biggest game he did. He's a great number 2 but he should not be our number 1 next season. And for that matter neither a keeper who plays for a championship team.

{Ed0333's Note - or maybe he won’t crumble again because he will have learnt from this awful experience and it will have made him psychologically stronger

3.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 19:58:12
Mk made a great point of the importance of the team failure for the second fault and he was one of the players who got us to the final i would personally work on his mental game and his distrabution and possibly bring in a top gk coach don't get me wrong karius is far from perfect but surely you don't get to that level by being rubbish and what keeper has come to us and improved in many years all have declined or stagnated.

4.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 20:07:15
Well said Ed.

{Ed0333's Note - I just feel there’s something there and we shouldn’t be so quick to write him off. I’d hate him to become a worldie somewhere else.

5.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 20:07:25
His second mistake in the final was the exact same mistake he made against Roma in the first leg at 0-0 but got away with. The Benzema mistake was just unbelievable lack of concentration or a major inability of awareness of his surroundings. Hamman has already questioned him as a person and has hinted that he believes he is better than he thinks he is and is extremely arrogant . Also tie this in with the fact that after we won the semi whilst everyone was celebrating Hendo was more interested in giving him a piece of his mind. Karius has had a few decent games since e he has come in and looks more solid than Mignolet but that is not hard. Saying that though he has had quite a few dodgy moments including his decision making giving away a pen at Palace and again saved from giving one away against Roma by the linesmans flag.

{Ed0333's Note - hence my insistence he works on his concentration which can be taught. I for one have lost a little respect for Didi after what he said about Karius, so what he has a personalized number plate big deal I have one also that doesn’t make me conceited. Would you want your keeper to have a bit of swag or be a pussy?

6.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 20:13:46
Simple! If Klopp buys a top class GK, then it means he is done with Mr Karius no matter how much we sugar coat it over here. If he buys Butland, that means he has thrown that position up in the air for anyone to grab it! I doubt he would have any interest to be a “GREAT” number two!
That game was not just any game Ed033, It was a CL final and there are no guarantee we would ever reach the finals again!

{Ed0333's Note - hey Harry how are you? I’m actually Ed’s333 not Ed 033...unlike you to gloss over the facts 😀. Ok so we lost a Champions League Final are you gonna hold a grudge forever? Who do you blame for our loss in 2007? I blame the tea lady for using PG Tips for our half time cuppa and not Tetley that really messed up our coordination in the 2nd half. If we don’t reach a final again then that’s will probably be down to our own ineptitude so we aren’t deserving of another cup. Jeez Louise give the poor kid a break he messed up but this witch hunt is bordering on victimization.

7.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 20:14:04
How was he one of the layers who got us to the final other than he was on the pitch. It was only by massive strokes of luck that he never cost us progression against both Man Cuty and Roma. Does everyone forget about them just because we got through?

He is an accident waiting to happen in every game and the sooner people realise this instead of making excuse for him and thinking he will come good when there has been no evidence whatsoever that he will do so.

We may save money by keeping him and be able to bring in Fekir and another but Karius would still undermine the team if it was Messi coming in.

The sooner we realise the inevitable and get shut it will give the Eds on here a lot more spare time as every other post is about Karius.

{Ed0333's Note - if the rumours of Butland signing soon are true It will be interesting to know the cost as if it’s a stupid pricey fee then you wonder why we didn’t look at other options. I would expect if it does happen we will get Butland for a very reasonable price hence the interest.

8.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 20:24:45
Well said on all points Ed0333.

{Ed0333's Note - thanks fella.

9.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 20:26:42
100% in agreement with ed0333 on this, let him fight for his place he may just prove us all wrong.

{Ed0333's Note - he owes us to fight for his place. Leaving would be the path of least resistance.

10.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 20:28:37
This is why I asked the question, Ed0333. We live in these times where everything is temporary, everything is portable, easily disposed of and easily replaceable. Or so we think. Few people look at the consequences or the costs.

Most of us know all about Mignolet. Really well, because he's been given chances time and again. We know he's reached the end of the road with us. I am questioning whether it's too soon to declare it the end of the road for Karius also? The season he has had, before the Final, in Kiev was no fluke.

{Ed0333's Note - he had a nightmare in the final it happens. Klopp is traditionally faithful to his players I don’t see why he would change his way of thinking now.

11.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 20:30:57
Also, I'm sure that game will have sorted out the arrogance problem a bit, whether he was or not.

{Ed0333's Note - absolutely bang on mate talk about learning humility the hard way. This is why i say give him another year.

12.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 20:35:13
I think it's a tough decision ed333 Even before his mistakes in the final a lot of fans including ed1 weren't convince by him and thought we should bring a top top GK to replace him. So its interesting to see what happens.

When u see top top managers like shanks Paisley fergie what makes them special is ruthlessness abt them.

Next season it's going to be pivotal for klopp. He needs to start winning some trophies or things can change quickly as we've seen before. When was the last time our manager didn't win anything in 3 yrs and still kept his job?

{Ed0333's Note - I think it’s all relative mate I hope so anyway. We have the financial juggernauts that are Man City & Man Utd who can buy anyone they want. I would hope FSG will take that into consideration if Klopp doesn’t win anything next season.

13.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 20:36:14
Fair enough ed. But its the maybe that worries me. The Gerrard slip didn't kill the league for us. We had 37 other games which some of them we fluffed. Let's not forget the palace atrocity.

{Ed0333's Note - you’re right but my point is we lost the title that year but no one got vilified unlike Karius is now.

14.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 20:45:31
Why do you have too many 3’s, Ed333. It’s so confusing 😂😂😂.

{Ed0333's Note - because I’m only half a devil Harry. I don’t think it’s that confusing mate anyone whose at least nursery school educated can distinguish between 33 and 333

15.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 20:46:55
Good post as always ra. So many people are against the lad and I just think he had a bad game, terrible game anyway but it doesn't mean he's the worlds worst GK. I actually think there's a good keeper in him, if he's number one come the start of the season then I'm fine with that.

The lad definitely needs to improve, I know that but what gets me is hardly anybody was saying this stuff about him before the final, that happened (yes shocking mistakes) and suddenly he's the worst player we have. I know some people here like redmersey and a couple of others have constantly said they didn't like him so fair play to them, least they aren't going on about how bad he is over one game but the majority of people are.

If it was Lovren who made 2 mistakes which led to the goals, everybody would be demanding a new CB but if it was Salah who made 2 mistakes would everybody be saying he shouldn't be in a Liverpool shirt again? . I think far too many people are been too harsh on the lad.

He gets my support 100%. I'm sure he will learn more, keep progressing and eventually impress many if he's given the chance to. We'll see, each to their own of course.

16.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 21:17:00
Salah- I'm not at all against an Alisson, Oblak or Courtois coming in. Their quality is without question and established over a period of time. They have track records. So why aren't we looking at Karius's track record with us too, instead of giving him the "heave ho" (after one really bad night) and going out and spending obscene amounts on GKs that will give us only a marginal benefit? It doesn't seem to be the FSG, Klopp or LFC way at the moment. We don't have owners that behave like "Daddy Moneybags". We don't have a manager that wants to overhaul the team every time he doesn't win a title or a trophy. I say we stay the course, bring in Butland for Mignolet, put both through a competitive summer and let the chips fall where they may.

{Ed0333's Note - beautiful love it.

17.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 21:23:43
It’s a hell of a long way back for him from here . 2 shocking errors in the biggest game of his career

He will get so much stick every away game and Anfield could be even worse with the crowd getting nervy every time the ball goes near him. Playing for a big club concentration is vital he is yet to show this consistently

If he gets the chance for redemption at Liverpool good luck to him but it will be tough.

{Ed0333's Note - or he could glean some mental fortitude from the harrowing experience and come back a better keeper, or spend the summer in Ibiza, getting absolutely crunked and having coitus with outstandingly beautiful women and not care about the final and if he could learn from his mistakes, work hard and repay his Liverpool FC family.

18.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 21:53:08
I'd like us to stick with Karius. He dropped a bollock no denying that- but show me a keeper who hasn't. He just happened to do it in a champions league final! I would hope he gets the support of the coaching staff and comes back stronger to rub it in the noses of the scum who sent him abuse. Our club motto is You'll Never Walk Alone and that should be true for when we lose too. On the plus side Mia Khalifa seems to have the hots for him on Instagram so every cloud and all that.

19.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 21:44:32
Exactly my thoughts too ra mate, couldn't agree more with that. I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking this way.

Also great posts as well Ed333, spot on mate.

{Ed0333's Note - thanks Salah. We are so close to getting it right we just got to keep the faith. I mean do people really believe Roma will sell us Becker on the cheap after they got shafted with Salah. They’ll want obscene amounts to restore the equilibrium. I don’t see him going for less than 60 million regardless of how much Ederson cost as a keeper. I’m pretty sure Butland will cost a fraction of that if he comes. The question is if Butland does come would there be a keeper in world football better than Butland for the price well pay? One more thing there would be no sense in moving Karius on now his value im sure low after his horror show in Kiev it would not benefit us at all.

20.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 21:57:24
Ed0333 - brilliant. You have been absolute class tonight :) keep it up buddy :)

{Ed0333's Note - thanks mate I’m glad your appreciating my ramblings

21.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 22:04:00
Ed0333 total agree with you lad karius should definitely be giving another chance so we can buy the players that will win us our next final.
Everybody makes mistakes in life regardless what they, only Jayden, harry and co like you say would rather carry on there witch hunt and hatred For the boy.
He is young and it was his first champions league final of course the boy was nervous, yet some people would rather look over the top of that and give the kid grief. In all honesty ad hate to be a player and read posts like some on here, hardly filling the boy with confidence what YNWA really stands for.
Like you say ed0333 the things that Karius is doing wrong can be drilled into him as most is consentration.
Jayden harry and co need to realise even with out karius"s mistakes, we still had a poor ref and on top of that, we didn't play good enough on the day to win that final.
We are LFC the youth of today need to grow up, stop giving the boy grief and move on, like a say we are Liverpool we stand by our players and back our manager and we never walk alone.
Hopefully Karius gets the chance to prove these people wrong next season, I have a feeling when that happens there could be some controdiction going on.

{Ed0333's Note - you make some terrific points mate I appreciate the goalkeeping position is a super specialist one and we need a world class keeper. But that problem was created by Rogers and inherited by Klopp. When Klopp took over he had so many holes to plug (still does) and buying a 5 million Karius seemed like a good idea after his performances in the Bundesliga which were stellar by the way. Yes Karius hasn’t turned out to be a world class keeper but I’d rather buy a Nabil Fekir, Pulusic or a Dembele and have Butland in goal than have Becker in goal and a drain water or a Barkley in the team. Besides Becker/Butland aren’t turning me on that much, I would rather go for Leno I’m sure he would be substantially cheaper and could do a very good job.

22.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 22:14:08
Correct Ed333 mate, before the final everybody was more interested in improving the CM, RB, AM positions but now suddenly they throw Karius under the bus because of a couple of mistakes and now the priority is the GK position? I find it wrong I really do. Id welcome Alisson like the rest of us but for that kind of money? I think the money could be much better spent on other areas. I know he's a great keeper I think we have all established that but is he needed THAT much? I don't think so.

Personally I want Karius to have another season, let's see how he does, give him his chance, he's only 24. After such an horrific performance, I kind of hoped more Liverpool fans would be behind him and give him more support, it's a shame he has very little at this moment in time. Them mistakes could've happened to any player, sure they shouldn't of happened, but they did, that doesn't warrant how he's being treated since. It's football but so many people take it far too seriously. Death threats and what not? it's disgusting.

If Butland comes in I think it'll be interesting, I think it'll push Karius to success, maybe that's why we're linked to him? who really knows. He's not an improvement on Karius imo but if it helps Karius improve as a GK then I'm all for it plus he'd be a great number 2 should we need him. See, if I'm Karius right now, he isn't stupid he like the rest of us, reads the internet. So if I was in his shoes reading all the negative comments, I'd want to come back and prove to everybody I'm capable? It's make or break though I mean reading millions of comments about how bad you are can put you into a right state. I just hope the lad is strong enough to brush it off and think 'I'll show them'. Good luck to the lad, I'm glad he has some support at least.

{Ed0333's Note - super post Salah and I concur with you wholeheartedly, regarding the death threats, trul is disgusting. Like a player would want to purposely make those mistakes. I think the crux of this debate is not Becker, Butland et al but wether people can see Karius in goal for a Liverpool side that is winning premierships and champions leagues? I’m guessing the majority of fans think not, I however am in the minority. I think he’s good enough, time will tell.

23.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 22:27:15
Ed0333 youve been spot on mate tonight. Your not often as vibrant as this mate lol, I bet youve been on the Fruit Cider! Youve restored some pride in my keeper thoughts. Van I change the subject slightly mate and ask, Do YOU think we will sign Fekir please?

{Ed0333's Note - vibrant lol I’ll take that fella. I’ve had an argument with my wife so I’m editing in the spare room so maybe that has something to do with my vibrancy 😝. To answer your question I think we’ll sign Nabil Fekir.

24.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 22:42:17
Agree fully with you ed with the players you mention. We may have lost a cpl of finals under klopp but we are improving all the time. Klopp is looking to build a great squad rather than the first 11 we have now.
Onwards and upwards the future looks very bright indeed and like you when we get to our next final we will not be losing it.
We are on our way so to the fans of every other team not just in the prem but in Europe, stand a side and watch out LFC are back and every LFC fan we are Staying on our journey with exciting football being played and tropheys will come, how many and what I don't know but I would put me house on us winning finals when we get there from now on. YNWA.

25.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 23:05:38
Sounds like Ed0333 has been having some of that "coitus". Is that a drink or something? Do the "oustanding beautiful girls come with it? And where in Ibiza do I go Ed? 😉🤣.

{Ed0333's Note - Coitus is an ancient term for sexual intercourse and in my experience drinking usually attracts the opposite of outstandingly beautiful girls unfortunately. I used to like blue marlin in Ibiza but last time I went it was no fun too many people and a weird vibe. I would have no idea about Ibiza now mate.

26.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 23:17:26
My good god, I was angry with him that night but I guess the point is he was symptomatic of a jittery team after Salah went off. If we had suitable replacements for Mo then the whole evening would be been different anyway. We'd have had more confidence and would have been in a better place to implement our game plan. Karius just trucked up. I don't watch football for the keepers anyway, generally speaking. Give me a swashbuckling creator rather than a boundary fence anyway.

27.) 02 Jun 2018
02 Jun 2018 23:25:00
Cheers Ed333 mate and I do agree I'm in the minority too because I also think he's good enough. Have a good night mate.

{Ed0333's Note - good night Salah and don’t dont let the bed bugs bite and all that.

28.) 03 Jun 2018
03 Jun 2018 00:24:03
I’m sorry, this is getting ridiculous now. Karius never was, never is and never will be good enough. Where weed you all when Sean Dundee was getting slated? Sympathy won’t make a good goalkeeper, and that’s all it is - sympathy.

Forget about giving him chances, stop dreaming that he will come good, he is not even Premiership class, never mind top 6.

I didn't even know about the alleged arrogance but, if that is true, it says it all. The rest of the players may be saying all the right things but, privately, they will be seething and thinking what a joke. Stop prolonging the agony, he will not make the grade at Liverpool. He doesn’t have the technique, he doesn’t have the ability, he doesn’t have the attitude, he doesn’t have the concentration and he will cost us big time. I could almost write a book about his mistakes, many of them he had got lucky with by the way. Unfortunately for him you can’t stay lucky all your career.
Take the blinkers off and let him go quietly and with dignity, that’s if anyone else will take him of course.

29.) 03 Jun 2018
03 Jun 2018 06:19:12
Not saying he deserves another chance or not; I'll trust Klopp with that one. He has shown he's a good enough reflex keeper like just any keeper in the PL, but, like Lovren, he always looks like he's got a mistake in him that can change the game. In the two games against Roma, I saw nothing in Alisson that would suggest he's the answer.

30.) 03 Jun 2018
03 Jun 2018 07:59:54
Nice sentiment Ed0333 but we’ve been here before with Karius after the Bournemouth catastrophe.
We thought he’d learnt, we thought he’d redeemed himself.
It’s clear under intense pressure he can’t cope.

The most compassionate thing the club could do would be to release him from his contract and let him rebuild himself back in Germany.

31.) 03 Jun 2018
03 Jun 2018 10:09:16
Come now Ed0333. I was pulling your leg (s) . Most of us adults know what coitus is 😉.

{Ed001's Note - that is where you went wrong, you assumed Ed0333 was an adult.}

32.) 03 Jun 2018
03 Jun 2018 10:11:57
redmersey, what's getting ridiculous is your constant going on about Karius, daily. Just FYI people have different opinions, just because you don't agree with them doesn't mean your right. Have some respect for others and stop spouting off like Mr know it all.

You're passionate about the club and want the best for it I can see that and I can understand rambling on about something you want changing but every single day mate? leave it alone. Karius in your eyes should be gone, ok we get the picture, you've said it about 5000 times in the past few weeks. I think everybody on the site knows where you stand mate lol.

Look at Ron for an example, a fella who has his opinions, his last post I don't agree with one bit but he's entitled to his opinion and doesn't rattle on about the same thing daily.

No wonder the Eds get pissed off at times having to read the same old BS all the time, I think it'd make anybody a bit hot headed, and people wonder why Ed2 kicks off at them sometimes.

33.) 03 Jun 2018
03 Jun 2018 09:43:23
No one's throwing Karius under the bus and I think, on this site at least, everyone's actually been very respectful of him. The question for me is whether keeping him would undermine a potential title challenge and I worry that it would.

I have been skeptical of Karius for two years, he's struggled to win the shirt off Migs which should be the biggest red flag, he's made significant handling errors at a fairly regular rate, I don't think his distribution is an improvement on Migs' and he's possibly worse with the ball at his feet.

His strengths are how quick he comes off the line and he's better than Migs when the ball is in the air but is that enough to be goalie at Liverpool? I don't think so.

I've never slagged off a Liverpool player and I won't start if Karius stays but, right now, I'd prioritise a new keeper over Fekir.
