say for arguments sake we can upgrade one position for the remainder of the window. what would people pick from the following.

GK - A position that we have appeared to struggle in since the early Reina days. Arguably can save you 10-12 points a season similar to De Gea and can improve the defence drastically.

AM (couts replacement) - We seem to lack the creative spark when teams sit back and if the front three aren't on their A game there is a lack of goals from the midfield. a replacement in this area would really give defenders nightmares.

Or an other position that should take priority.

I have kept away from names and figures as it is purely down to what, as a team, is a bigger priority.

I would personally go for a couts replacement, it would provide an additional threat to an already very dangerous attacking team. Opposition teams wouldn’t know who to mark. Currently we are designed for pace, so if a team sits back it nullifies our threat. Add another 'creative' player to the mix and it gives them something else to think about plus creates more space.

Look at city this season, they had teams frightened because of their options and left their keeper relatively untested. A keeper who I personally don’t rate as highly compared to the De Gea’s of this world.

I wouldn’t pick a keeper over an AM purely because we would still fall into the same trap of struggling to break down defences and still end up drawing to many games.

Interested to hear peoples thoughts.

City have a very good keeper and he is no Mignolet. His distribution is world class and the way Pep wants his keeper to play! Our keepers are flappers at the best. Poor off the line and can’t even hold the ball well!
We need a keeper sooner or later. I agree with your sentiments of brining a replacement for Coutinho and that is why we are linked with Fekir.
If Ederson left in 3 goals in a CL final, Pep would burry him and send him back to Brazil!

Attacking mid for me.

Since you put it that way i totally agree with you. Karius was doing okay up until the the final.

He is young and I think the big occasion got the better of him. The final could be the making of him if he learns from it.

We will just have to wait and see!

Top keeper for me WY. The last 2 Mignolet and Karius are so far away from the desired level of a club with our ambitions. Mignolet must have cost us between 9 and 12 points every season he's been here. Karius has used his 2nd chance up for me that reckless throw last Saturday shows a basic grasp of common sense. I still can't believe he did that.

Man Look De Gea influence a good keeper can make a team who should be 5,6 second! We finished 4 but with Alisson we could have finished first or second and we have wilson ojo kent woodburn origi solanke sturridge lallana milner brewster ejaria markovic they all can cover the front 3 or mf.

Is it even debatable?

I would personally go for another winger/ striker in the mold of our current front 3.

I think that we have players that can step up to create in Henderson, Keita, Wigi and the front 3 so I don't see replacing Couts as top priority.

I agree that Karius is still young and not of the same quality as some the other goalies in the league but I also think he can come good (keep in mind that in this scenario we can only sign one player remember, I do think GK should be strengthened this window just not as number 1 priority) .

But I do think it the lack of a pacy skillful forward that can compliment our front three that is most needed. Although I do think Origi could potentially fulfill this role.

Harry, We pummeled Ederson by 9 goals in three game, 4 in one game at Anfield where he mace 3 mistakes that led to goals and Pep did NOT bury him. In fact, he played the whole season. Whether Karius is to continue with us or not, is all up to Klopp, IMO.

GK for me (assuming we can get Alisson or Oblak) because

- It strengthens our first 11 immediately whereas even someone like Fekir might struggle to be a guaranteed starter

- I do worry about Karius’s state of mind after the CL final, what happens if he makes a clanger in first game and everyone’s baying for blood? There’s no plan B

- a top GK can save just as much points as an AM can create

- with Fabinho coming in, we have flexibility to play 4-2-3-1 and Fabinho/ Hendo deep, so Keita can push forward. Alternatively Firmino can be pushed back to play the attacking mid/ no.10 if required and Solanke upfront

- The main question is who to use when resting Mane/ Salah, as we have limited other pacy options out wide. if we’re forced to pick though I’d still go GK and we can always give Wilson a shot.

Our weakest position - Goal keeper.
