Hello eds and members. Longtime Yank reader with a question. In the US, particularly in baseball, the age of 27 is considered a player's prime year. Is there any such "rule of thumb" in football?

{Ed002's Note - I assume you are from the Northeast. The rule of thumb is for Liverpool fans girlfriends, all of which have been told that a thumb is 9 inches long.}

ED02. You gone too far with this one, as judging by some of the narrowminded post's on here in the last 2 days, some of the readers will struggle with identifing it as a joke, let alone, understand the gag in this!

{Ed002's Note - Again, no gag. This is the truth. He calls himself a “yank” he is from the Northeast - that struggling bit in the top right hand corner. Girls in Liverpool think thumbs are 9” long. You want to send in a picture of your thumb - and your girlfriend. For those who don’t understand, thing half-way across a hub cap.}

Ed02. I will prove you wrong, just wait. till I load up my photoshop and do some editing! 😁

Have a peaceful night and thanks for the last 2 days covering, I read some of the ignorance you faced.

{Ed002's Note - Thanks, I also recall a movie called "Big Thumbs". That would be a question for my late unfortunately named pal Mike Dicken.}

Anyway, back to the original question, it depends on their position as each position requires a different set of skills.

Goalkeepers mature oldest, then centre backs.
It also depends on when you start playing as to how much professional football your body can take. Examples are Rooney, Torres and Owen who both started very young and were “finished” in their late 20’s.
Their is no rule of thumb, their are lots of variables to take account of.

If that's the broadcasting legend Mike Dicken, you were lucky to have him as a pal Ed002, I loved him on the radio.
