Good Morning/ Afternoon,

Question for those older than me.

I was too young to remember McManaman. I wanted to know about his time at Madrid. Is he remembered fondly by them and did he do well?

Hope your all not ripping your hair out waiting for the game like me

Cheers.

He played 158 times RedSwampy and won a lot with them. If I was a Madrid fan, he'd be remembered to me.

He scored a peach of a goal in the 1999 champions league final Madrid v Valencia. I'm sure he's remembered fondly.

He was never a first 11 player but he made 103 starts over 4 seasons and scored some big goals including in the 2000 CL final.

As I recall he was very popular in Madrid as a cult hero (think Luis Garcia at Liverpool) . I wouldn't recommend many football books but El Macca, specifically about the time he spent in Madrid, is great.

What a goal that was gordy. Classic mcmanaman. He beat about 4 players over 50 yards and slotted it home. Oh and it was the winner. Of course they think of him fondly. Like saying we don't think fondly of Kennedy.

If I remember rightly he captained them a few times too. I may be wrong though.

He is very well liked by the vast majority of Madrid fans. He never complained when he didn't play and he always grafted when he did - from the interviews I have seen with team mates + others associated with Madrid and from what I've heard the only Real fan I know say he is affectionately remembered. El Macca was his nickname I believe.
