So it appears that both teams that beat Madrid in the CL this season, Spurs and Juventus, did it by playing defensively, packing the midfield and working on the counter attack. They both had just 32 % possession and both won 3-1. Madrid could work nothing through the middle and were pushed wide and crosses were defended. Im not saying that is the only way to beat them but it works. Just hope the meeting fire with fire approach doesn't get us burned.

Klopp and the coaching team are pretty good at working out tactics for teams that like to play football. The way they did Man City three times is still very satisfying. It's the teams that defend well that we usually struggle with. I think it's whether our players can deal with the pressure of the occasion right until the end of the match which will determine the result. Tactically, we should be able to match RM.

Like klopp said (paraphrasing) we are not spurs, we are not juventus. If we tried to play like them we be out at the group stage. We must play the game our way.

We had 38% possession when we beat City 3-0, we had 36% possession when we beat them 2-1. We had 50% possession when we destroyed Roma at home.

We had 68% possession when we lost 2-1 to United.

I am happy for us to play on the counter, it suits us very well thanks and it is actually what we do best.

I reckon we’re at our best in a relatively even game. If we’re at 30-35% then we’re probably under pressure a lot and our defence is too exposed, at 65-70% if means the other team is setting up defensively and we struggle to break teams like that down without a lump like Lukaku in the box to aim at.

50/ 50 is perfect IMO.
