Hi guys, not bashing Henderson. But has anyone seen Henderson dribble past a player?

{Ed001's Note - how many times did Gerrard dribble past a player? What a pointless and idiotic way to bash a player while pretending not to bash him. It is not his role in the team to be dribbling past players, the last thing you want your deep lying midfielder to do is that unless he is Mousa Dembele, who has a covering defensive midfielder alongside him in case he gets into trouble.}

It is rare because it isn't his job in the side to take people on. But he can, and does, do it when he has to. He completed 8 take ons in the league this season.

Seems like a pretty pointless thing to slate him over.

Yes I have 🤝.

No, but I’ve seen him hit an absolute thunderbastard past one of the best keepers in the world.

Yes, every player should be judged solely on the merit of dribbling like Messi. . . .

More to the point, when was the last time Salah made a last-ditch, goal line clearance? Overrated, obviously.

{Ed001's Note - or Firmino save a penalty?}

The problem with Henderson is he is not making other contribution that's worthy of being a captain.

In repertoire of skills a midfielder, one of the must have is dribbling. It relievs the defence of presdure and gives the midfielder time to pick a pass. i have studied Henderson videos in depth and I realise the reason he makes easy back passess or pressure into error is because he dare not dribble past players. Not once.

It is not a prerogative of striker to make goal line clearance. Hence the flawed logic of some.

How many times did Roy Keane dribble past a player? Fairly certain he was a decent enough captain. What about xabi? I was about to go further with a list of players but instead I’ll say if all players were exactly the same with their repertoire of skills, the game would be quite different.

You have to be taking the p#ss? Did you study how he presses? Or how he blocks passing lanes? Or how he always works to make himself available for a pass from the CB's?
Maybe we should have kept coutinho to play holding mid so we could all see him dribble past players like fifa18? Bet we wouldn't be in the champions league final if we did.

Flawed logic?
Hark at the garbage you spout about Henderson!
I'll bet you won't watch if he lifts Big Ears on Saturday night.

Well I've studied Henderson in well over about 10,000 minutes of actual football matches, rather than videos, and he definitely has the touch and speed to step away from a challenge when he has to.

The difference is that unlike the media's fantasy players like Dembele, Kante and Pogba (All quality in their own rights of course) ; Henderson understands that the ball travels quicker than he can, so as soon as he has space he releases the ball to set us on our way for the counter attack. He is vital to our tactics because of this.

He also switches play to the wide men better than anyone else in the Premier League. Who else consistently hits raking diagonal balls with such perfect accuracy and speed? That is a pretty crucial skill when your wide men are your biggest goal threats.

When he is fit, Henderson is easily one of the hardest players in Europe to play against as well. Just ask De Bruyne, Naingollan and Eriksen. I'm pretty sure Henderson plays in cargo shorts, because he's still got all 3 of them in his pocket.

He's hands down (or c*ck on the block, as is this sites newest obsession) the most under rated player I have ever known to play the game. The only people who appreciate him are every manager he plays for, every team mate he plays with, and about 50% of Liverpool fans. I've never met a neutral who understands how good he is. Well, I hope he lifts the Champions League and puts his finger up to the lot of them.

My message to any kid aspiring to be a pro is "in a world of Shelveys and Wilsheres, be a Jordan Henderson".

Have you ever played the game it’s quicker to pass then run with the ball? What nonsense mate!

Break-in at our place last night. couldn't believe it, they stole my betamax copy of Jan Molby’s Greatest Dribbles and the hard-to-find hardcover edition of Beat 10 Players And Score by Xabi Alonso. Fortunately, my photo of Graeme Souness waltzing magnificently around the whole Everton midfield wasnt taken.

'not bashing Henderson' mate I think you'll find you are bashing him and I don't understand why? the only problem with Hendo is his fitness, if that was 100% he'd be one of the best midfielders around.

I can't add much more to what MK has said really, he's hit the nail on the head with that post. When fully fit, Hendo is one of our best players yet so many people fail to see this, so many people calling for VVD to be the new captain etc (I know you haven't) and it really winds me up, the lad deserves respect and he deserves us to get behind him, calling for a new captain is so disrespectful.

If he scores the winner on Saturday night, suddenly he'd be the best thing since sliced bread and people would forget about slating him as much as they did. Support him, he's a bloody good, dedicated, passionate Liverpool player, what more can you ask for?

23 May 2018 09:29:42
Salah and MK, fit or not fit Henderson is not one of the best midfielder around period. He is good enough for bottom half of league though.

17.) 23 May 2018
23 May 2018 09:30:33
Oh just stop this nonsense, you troll. Do you work for The FSB or what? This is completely irrelevant. Hendo plays behind two other midfielders whose job it is to drive forward with the ball from midfield, most commonly Gini or Ox, or Emre when he wasn't playing the deeper role. Klopp's number 6 is under instructions to look up and switch the play or play balls behind the defense. In-spite of this Hendo completed 9 dribbles this season, so yes, he is capable of it.

18.) 23 May 2018
23 May 2018 09:31:24
Also, why bother starting your post with 'not bashing Henderson'? You not only 100% are bashing Henderson, you've even claim to have put in a significant amount of work into finding this thing to bash Henderson over.

19.) 23 May 2018
23 May 2018 10:18:04
Why would Henderson need to go on on long dribbling runs? He's doing his job for the team, we have one of the fastest counter attacks around, we have three forwards that can take on and dribble round players, we need a midfielder who is there to break down attacks and play the quick passes to set our counter attack off, we need a midfielder who will sit in the midfield and help protect our back line, keep it calm and simple and when needed ping a pass into space, in Henderson we have a player who does these things very well, not world class not a player for highlights because he's not a show boating player. But when he plays we as a team tend to play better. To bash him because he doesn't dribble past players proves how little you know about football.

23 May 2018 10:21:07
Some people don’t know how to prepare for a final and the nerves which comes with them and then some people just troll- whatever the reason mate, it appears you are alone in this argument. There are also some compelling arguments as to why you are wrong in your statements, perhaps you should take a breath, read through them once more before attempting to evoke an emotional reaction.

Have you ever seen messi save a pen.

22.) 23 May 2018

Henderson is so good, I’ve seen him bending crosses around mountains that still reach Salah 😉.

23 May 2018 10:49:02
The one thing I have learned the most while reading these pages over the last donkey years, is to applaud the bravery it takes to persist with an opinion, no matter how misguided, ill-informed and just downright wrong it is. So I do that now. 👍👏.

24.) 23 May 2018
23 May 2018 11:20:08
The role of Hendo is to cut passing lanes, recycle the ball and feed the front 3. He does all of those things great. Why would you want him dribbling past players in front of the back 4 when he can just pass the ball and set us on a counter? Complete and utter delusion from you LFC lover, he has proven to be an integral cog in our midfield the past few years. You clearly don't understand football.

25.) 23 May 2018
23 May 2018 11:59:50
So im guessing you haven't taken any notice of how much our tempo slows down when Henderson doesn't play, we miss him big time when not playing and he is the only one of the deep players with any urgency to get us on the attack.

26.) 23 May 2018
23 May 2018 12:14:20
i wonder if this joker is "leek" (can't remember his full username but sure most will know who i'm talking about) . he used spout this kind of nonsense on the regular.

we are days away from our clubs biggest game in over a decade. as far as I'm concerned, no fan would decide to disrespect any of our players at such a time.

27.) 23 May 2018

Mk and plenty others have already said quite enough.

If I can just add on a couple of footnotes:
1) From where I was, when Henderson joined LFC, Steve Mcmahon was some sort of TV pundit and he absolutely slaughtered him every single game. He regularly singled him out for criticism and stated that he did nothing to contribute to the team and had no impact. Till date these opinions and statements about Henderson are still being repeated and I cannot help but feel many supporters did not assess him on their own but simply regurgitated what the pundits had wrongly said. They celebrate whenever he is not in the team and fail to see what he brings to the team.

2) I'm pretty sure on a few occasions when Emre Can was playing the holding role, a couple of poor touches or stray passes and the team was on the back foot and a couple of times, conceded. So, no thanks. I don't fancy the deepest midfielder to take the risk and dribble past players. I rather someone with an assured touch, strength to hold on to the ball, positioning to be in the right places, awareness of where his teammates are, and the passing range and accuracy to retain possession or build an attack.

3) I'm sorry, but Ed001, I'll have to disagree with you on Firmino. He did make a few penalty saves, albeit for the opposing team. He rode challenges, out-muscled defenders and slotted the ball past keepers to score instead of going down to gain a penalty or two. So the most complete center forward in the league has managed this great feat that seemed impossible. =P.

{Ed001's Note - fair point sg, I stand corrected.}
