On the whole Dembele debate if we could get a loan with option to buy I think it would be great in addition to someone like fekir. He's young quick, two footed and has potential, klopp can take a real look at him and he can see if he feels he can settle in Liverpool.
General question on loan to buys, if the loan happened and a fee was agreed at the start, can the selling club to chose to sell elsewhere even if the buying club wanted to go forward? Like what if he came and was excellent, and someone else wanted him, and were prepared to pay more? Is the contract binding to the buying club?

{Ed002's Note - Barcelona are not looking for a loan with an "option" to buy. They would be looking for a loan with a commitment to buy as they want the money they paid back - and as the significantly overpaid, that is a tough call.}

There is no way he is a €100 mill player. For that kind of sum we could buy anyone! Barcelona overpaid and now they want their new money back.

2.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 11:29:57
Then we can get Dembele on loan with an option to buy next season and pay for Fekir this season?

3.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 11:44:27
There’s no way he was worth what they paid, Dortmund did well to extract that fee. Plus we have seen first hand with Sturridge and Owen how bad a recurring hamstring injury can be and given how quickly he knacked his hamstring after returning from the same injury, it leaves a huge question mark.

4.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 11:54:30
Dembele isn't worth what Barcelona shelled out for him, no way we are paying that amount with an agreement after the loan. Might as well forget it, tbh do we really need him?

5.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 11:57:41
That's where the sticking point will be, if it's a €100 million commitment to buy then Barcelona will do well to get anyone to bite, when you consider that he would not necessarily be a starter for us I just can't see it happening.

6.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 12:17:00
I think Klopp will go big for Pulisic if that becomes possible, but not for Dembele.

7.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 11:20:55
A commitment for someone else to buy and significantly overpay too though, Ed002?
It seems like, for once, their bargaining position is weak from the out-set?

{Ed002's Note - That is what they would like - but a straight sale would also work for them. They know that Real MAdrid have a two year plan to completely refresh the squad and Barcelona have some players they now need to move on because of their age and because they are not seen as good enough. Hence they will listen to offers for the lieks of Dembele.}

8.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 11:47:46
Vak, Ed02 already said that Barcelona want a loan with a commitment to buy cos they want most or all of their money back. Sorry, that ain't going to happen cos we ain't paying 90m for Dembele so IMO, people salivating over his potential arrival need to pump the brakes.

9.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 12:01:07
Thanks for that clarification ed. I’d agree it does make it a difficult call for any club interested in him. More reason to believe if Liverpool do go in for him it maybe with preparation for a big offer for one of our front three.

10.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 12:54:02
Why won’t we pay that money?
Price is irrelevant.
It’s if The player improves the squad and Dembele
certainly would.
How would a team defend against the pace of Dembele, Salah and Mane?
Mouth watering.
Love our club!

19 May 2018 12:59:57
Whereas a I agree that price is irrelevant, what is relevant is that the lad has had successive hamstring injuries, which given the problems Sturridge and Owen had, would be a reason to avoid. It’s easy to defend against a player who is on the treatment table.

12.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 13:10:30
Flidby, no way we will spend that amount of money on one player mate, a player many people would say we don't need.

13.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 13:05:12
Ed02, would Dembele enhance our first team? Would he get a regular starting spot? Do you see us going for him irrespective of what Macca has said?

(Ps I know your trying to stay away from transfer news, sorry in advance)

Regards

Niall.

{Ed002's Note - As a replacement for Salah he would get games. I am not sure if Macca has said he is a "done deal" or not, but everyone here has been telling me that Fekir, Lemar, Maddison and many others are already "done deals".}

14.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 13:12:18
If we are happy to spend 90 million, what has happened to lemar? Aren't Monaco getting the start of the mbappe money This year, will they go for a delayed payment scheme? For 90 million in sure others of that calibre would be available, Pulisic, Malcolm have been mentioned. If Barcelona want rid, then the only way we should be looking at him is if it is a cut price deal, 90 million is not the price for someone who they want gone.

15.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 13:36:57
Eds answer to Niall above is enough for me to make my own mind up. "As a replacement for Salah" he would get games. Simple really.

16.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 13:14:55
Surely to god the financial requirement needed Ed is beyond our reach?

17.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 18:49:31
I think in light of the £142m from Coutinho and our money from a good champions league run as well as our prize money from the premier league, we are in a good position financially and the best for a very long time.

{Ed002's Note - What £142M?}

18.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 19:22:16
This is why we shouldn't talk money MrShankly.

19.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 19:17:04
I know you don't like talking money ed but that has been the figure in the press since he left could you disclose the fee or just say if it was lower or higher.

{Ed002's Note - Just to clarify matters:
€120,000,000 Paid in five instalments between January 2018 and June 2020.
€5,000,000 Paid when player has appeared in 25 first class games for the club between January 2018 and May 2020.
€5,000,000 Paid when player has appeared in 50 first class games for the club between January 2018 and May 2020.
€5,000,000 Paid when player has appeared in 75 first class games for the club between January 2018 and May 2020.
€5,000,000 Paid when player has appeared in 100 first class games for the club between January 2018 and May 2020.
€5,000,000 Paid when Barcelona qualify for the Group Stages of the 2018/19 Champions League.
€5,000,000 Paid when Barcelona win the 2018/19 Champions League.
€5,000,000 Paid when Barcelona qualify for the Group Stages of the 2019/20 Champions League.
€5,000,000 Paid when Barcelona win the 2019/20 Champions League.

FIFA Solidarity payment of 2.5% of the fees to be paid by Liverpool to Inter between January 2018 and June 2020 (first payment (calculated from the €120M and not the instalments) was actually made in March. Two further payments will be made with the amounts increased to reflect any additional payments due for appearances etc.).
FIFA Solidarity payment of 2.5% of the fees to be paid by Liverpool to Vasco de Gama between January 2018 and June 2020 (first payment (calculated from the €120M and not the instalments) was late and FIFA intervened to force Liverpool to pay the money in to ESCROW with The FA. Two further payments will be made with the amounts increased to reflect any additional payments due for appearances etc.).}

thanks ed02 for clearing that up, your knowledge is amazing, Liverpool got an amazing deal if he does well there but I can't believe Liverpool were late making a payment.

21.) 19 May 2018
19 May 2018 21:48:18
Flidby, money may be irrelevant BUT it still does not grow on trees and we are NOT flush with cash either so that statement is as you say, irrelevant. A football club signs a player for both football and business reasons. If both don't make sense as this one does NOT cos we don't need Dembele for that price and Salah is going nowhere, you don't do the deal. There is NOTHING mouth-watering about making a dumb deal like this except you want us to do a Pogba with Utd, one deal that they are prolly regretting as we speak. It's that simple.

Hi ED02.Your reply to Grajac was amazing, full of insight that is very educational for those of us that come on here for such information and banter/ talk.

I know you recently had a tough time due to some ignorrant Liverpool fans, but I really hope you are not too dishartened to continue your usual input on this site.
Would love to have you back on full time like before.

Reading your insiggts and that of ED01 as well as some of the other eds is very interesting to say the least.

Thanks Again.

{Ed002's Note - It is not an issue with the Liverpool fans RK. Thanks for the kind words.}

There's lots wrong with that post flidby, 1 money is not irrelevant and 150/ 160 mill for him and fekir looks improbable at best it would also leave nothing for the areas we need to address. 2 are we playing 3 right wingers behind mane and sticking fekir on the bench? Not a lot of it adds up. I think dembele has just become and it is being looked at as an opportunity but they money will be too much in the end.

Kloppsred if Salah was to go next season there would be more than enough funds to pay for him 3 times over haha even so it probably wouldn’t be all up front anyway, we might pay a % at the start of the loan (barca might want to get someone in early) then more when the year is up and the deal is made permanent and then the rest in bonuses/ installments.
