ED001/ ED002

Hi gents,

Hope your well!

In reference to Liverpools standard chartered sponsorship and also the sleeve sponsorship, how does it work exactly in retrospect to a multiple deal worth x amount of yrs, could Liverpool break the deal if need be?

Would Liverpool winning the UCL enhance suitors for sponsorship, would this work in Liverpools favour?

Final question, could you see Liverpool being sponsored by Nike or Adidas in the near future?

Love to get your thoughts.
Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - (a) Without seeing the contracts I don't know what the financial penalties would be, beyond further loss of reputation for the club, if Liverpool were to break the contracts. They sign up to deals to have companies sponsor them and should adhere to the contracts. (b) Yes, but they would not be replacements for existing sponsors. (c) No.}

Not sure, but think this might be the last season of the Standard Chartered and New Balance deals. that's what anything i can find on it says anyway.

{Ed002's Note - The New balance deal runs for years. SC until ebd of next season in 2019.}

Do Nike/ Adidas not like/ want to do busy LFC? We must have burnt our bridges bad if they wouldn't want anything to do with Liverpool considering the size of the club in terms of fans/ support.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has a deal with New Balance it is nothing to do with not wanting to do business.}

ED02 when does our current contract with New Balance run out? For some reason i have July 2018 in my head but we are with them for next season so that must be wrong.

Personally i would be happy to stay with New Balance, i think the kits feel different and don't look like they are made from a template like a lot of the big clubs across Europe.

{Ed002's Note - In years time.}

Why anybody would want nike or adidas baffles me. The reason we are with new balance is because they paid us double what adidas wanted to pay. Plus i like the fact we have unique kits rather than a generic template that about 100 teams will have being with nike and adidas.

surely there's a bonus clause if we win the Champions League?

{Ed002's Note - Typically not from sponsors. Liverpool’s deal with Standard Chartered sees a reduction of £5M for years when the club don’t qualify for the CL.}

This would probably be a complicated question and I’m quite happy to get a “we’re not getting into that” from ed2, but I was wondering how much the club would benefit from the sponsorship deals we currently have in terms of performance bonus if we were to win the CL, versus how much the club end up paying out in player incentives and performance payments to previous clubs.

{Ed002's Note - Nothing from sponsors typically but if Liverpool agree contracts for player purchases with such bonuses in them, then they have to pay them. It is no different to the Coutinho deal which will see Liverpool benefit if Barcelona win the CL in the next two years, in the same way as they will be paid when he players in certain numbers of matches.}

Thanks ed, wasn’t sure if the structure of some sponsorship deals was dependent upon performance, as you say the PC deal we had I understood to be that we’d get more the better he performed so i presumed we’d have some similar deals to pay out on plus bonuses.

{Ed002's Note - It is not more for PC, it is little dribbles toward the full price that Liverpool could potentially get - which is nothing like the figure often quoted here.}

Why would you ever want Nike as a sponsor? Better run around in trash bags than those horrendous kits. they've never made a good looking kit for any side in and sport, ever. Horrible company. As for Adidas. yawn. same crap year after year.

{Ed0333's Note - the new Liverpool home kit is an abomination it looks like some YTS kid did it in his lunch break for a laugh.
