38 degrees are currently running a petition to block Murdoch from purchasing the remaining shares in Sky which he does not own.

I hope we can all come together and help stop this. It is a hugely important cause. If any of you are in Liverpool, please share this with friends and family. JFT96

Stop Murdoch Petition

I genuinely would like to know what is bad about him doing so. Not from a biased or unbalanced view of things, just what is wrong in principal? Is it just him or anyone owning all of it that is the problem? Is it just because he owns that paper? What would the repercussions be? What difference does it actually make to anyone but him and his estate? I can't sign things because it's the general concensus without knowing the facts. That's how brexit happens and Trump becomes president.

No worries Bardzo. Basically, Murdoch already owns various papers which he uses to peddle his own agendas. Sky though, is one of the biggest players in the TV industry, if not the biggest, and if Murdoch is allowed to take total control of it, the propaganda potential is dangerous at best and catastrophic at worst.

It is principal mate. One man should not hold this much power over the media. The media should be unbiased and only report facts as they are. As we know, Murdoch's papers don't do that. So I dread to think of how low Sky would sink if he had even more influence.

The man has no integrity, and his rags have a long history of printing lies. Lies which have slandered the people of Liverpool.

Signed, wouldn't accept my Malta postcode so put my old UK postcode in instead and worked fine.

Never had one Juicer! He already owns around 40% of Sky and that is enough for me to boycott it. They won't get a penny off of me until the man sells every last share.

Cheers for supporting guys!

As a counter point to this, be very careful what data you give '38 Degrees'. As of 25th May, about a third of their revenue will be illegal (and considering their data protection assurances, much is now) . They are very actively making as much money as possible selling marketing lists right now.

(Fully agree that Murdoch shouldn't own any more of the UK media)

Thanks hjikle! That is good to know. Even the people who claim to fight for what is righteous nowadays have their own skeletons in the closet, I guess 😟.

Fair enough, MK. I assumed that to be the thought process. My counter to that and the reason I won't be signing is that is doesn't matter who you are, what good you claim to support, what evil you are fighting against, there is always an agenda. bOXFAM, Greenpiece etc are supposed do gooders but they are both corrupt at various levels and cause as much harm as they are meant to prevent. All news media outlets have an agenda whether it is political, to stir the pot or purely to make money there is no sanctity in any of it. I just can't help thinking this particular cause all emanates from some lies that one of his papers told 30 years ago. They may have hit close to home and be of the most high profile lies, but it is nothing that most of the rest don't do already. We already live in a society guided by nefarious means and if we were to sign petitions in favour of just causes, we'd never stop signing. One thing I am sure of is if he greases enough palms, he'll come out on top anyway.
I was 4 in 1989 and I have no intrinsic connection to the city of Liverpool, so there isn't as much of an emotional connection to what happened as a lot of you will feel. Not that I am unsympathetic in the least, the joining of the football community over such a thing is extremely touching and reminds us to stick together in times of hardship. I am just unsure how he or Newscorp are any different to any other news outlet. We are too far gone to make any sort of moral stand against the media now and are all hypocrites anyway. Not one of us can say we haven't watched a program on Sky, ever. Whether its football at the pub in 2003, Game of Thrones last year or anything else since Rupert Murdoch was involved. You just can't have your cake and eat it is my view.

Really Bardzo? If ‘everyone is at it’ doesn't that make it more imperative to protest (however token that protest may be)? Apathy is manna to corrupt corporations and institutions. Taking 20 secs to sign a petition may be the butterfly wing that starts a hurricane.
Good post MK.

Respect your stance Bardzo. At least you've explained yourself I guess.

I was not born for 5 years when Hillsborough happened, and I've only been to Liverpool 5 times in my life. But I do feel a special connection. Liverpool is a global city. Most the people there have Irish, Scottish or Welsh roots. It is a City that takes in people like Grobelaar, Molby, Hyypia, Rafa, Riise, Agger and Kuyt as honorary Scousers. If you love Liverpool, Liverpool loves you. And that applies to the reds and the blues.

My only loose family connection is my partner who has family that live so close to Anfield that they can hear YNWA on match days and the roar when we score.

As RedLorry has said (good post mate), if we all turn a blind eye and believe we can't make a difference then We've already lost.

I fully respect your point of view, both of you. You obviously have more faith in humanity than l have, but history shows that apathy is the number one human emotion when it comes to things outside of their personal bubble.

Keep fighting the good fight (and I mean it), but I would be remiss if I didn't at least show an opposing view. Too often the ideas of do gooders and twitter warriors are left unchecked and we get a namby pamby society of wet fishes who can't wipe their baby's backside without asking. I am not calling either of you any the above, just playing devils advocate.
