So a point will do it Saturday. We are finishing top 4. We will be kings of Europe again this season.

Yep, Kimu. Serves Conte right for shooting his gob off before last Sun's game, saying he'd rather win the PL than play/ win a CL final cos per him, you don't need luck to win the league hence, belittling Klopp's achievements in the CL this season. So long, sucker!

To be fair to Conte, he does have a point. The table never lies. You need to be consistent over 38 games to win the league. Luck evens itself out over the course of the season. Whereas in the knockout stages in tournaments such as the CL, a bad draw or a couple of bad decisions might see you knocked out.

Regardless, let's secure CL football this weekend and smash Madrid in Kiev!

Sibsama, I disagree. There is something called being gracious and showing some class and respect to the opposing manager OR saying nothing. Yes, the table does not lie BUT that was not what Conte was getting at, IMO. He was deliberately trying to belittle Klopp's achievements in the CL (to distract from his own probs in both the CL and PL this season) .

Conte could have either said nothing or showed some class or said . He did neither and chose to go the jerk route and now, he will be getting sacked after the FA Cup final, if reports are true. I guess he would rather win the FA CUP than play a CL final as well seen as he got good draws all the way to the final. The hypocrisy is deafening. Abraham Lincoln once said, "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than it is to open one's mouth and remove all doubt".

Well BRover we can agree to disagree. In that press conference, Conte was asked whether he found it surprising that Liverpool have done so well in the Champions League but have not challenged Manchester City in the league.

He explained that a 38 game season is long and you need to be consistent to win the league. In tournaments, things can go either way and you need a bit of luck. No one can argue that City has the best squad and have been the best team in the league. He then went on to say that Liverpool deserved to be in the final after beating City.

I do not see how he was trying to belittle Klopp or his achievements this season. On the contrary, I think he was being respectful to Klopp for taking us this far. Think you're reading too much into his comments mate.

Sibsama - I understand your point, but coming from Conte, it just sounded bitter. Klopp has, in all likelihood, outperformed him in the league this season and, unquestionably, made of mockery of his Champions League performance.

Spot on, Lowel. Sibisama, I have no prob. with what he said globally. Why did he not simply leave it at that i. e the fact that Klopp and LFC deserved to be there? Why bring on the other stuff? It was uncalled for, end of. Like LowelLFC said, it sounded bitter and petulant hence, the backlash he is recieving is warranted, IMO. Again, if you (not you personally) have nothing good to say, just keep it shut and leave everything as it is. When you make such statements like that, you open yourself to being taken for a bitter, petulant brat. That is his fault cos he is in control of whatever comes out of his mouth.

{Ed001's Note - the one I don't get is this nonsense about the table never lies. It is simply not true. You would need to take the average performance over a much longer period than one season to get the actual true level of each team, as injuries, form, other games in and around those being played, having nothing/everything to play for etc all affect results. I have heard figures from 25 to over 50 years being needed to get a statistically accurate representation of a team's level. Obviously it is also nonsense, as then the players are changed so much that it is all completely different teams, but the point remains that it is no fairer a representation of a team's level in a particular season than a cup competition. Luck of the draw is replaced by luck in fixture scheduling in a league.}
